Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Thing is, I don't need the other items to have fun.
Pokeballs are a MUST for catching.
Potions etc. are just for fighting which you don't need to do.

This.

Current gameplay loop requires Poke Balls. Without them you are fundamentally gated and can't do anything else to progress on your own.

Yeah, and if they created a system that gave you pokestop items, you'd have a fairly equal experience, but if they just made pokeballs unlimited I'd have an advantage + unlimited pokeballs. Which makes me less likely to go to Pokestops.

Poke Balls are the worst item you an get in terms of perceived best item though.

It's only become the best item do to the broken gameplay loop.

Getting masterballs, lures, incense, eggs should all be better 1:1 than balls.

Hence why you'd want to hit up the Poke Stops.

I have to put forth effort to go out so I can continue to play for free. If I don't have to put that effort forth I won't. Completely ruining the urge to go to the park just for pokeballs. Your idea would almost ruin the game for me.

You should be going to the park to catch Pokémon.

This post right here shows how the gameplay setup in this game is fucked.

It's not about going to catch Pokémon for you. It's about going to grab balls.

You know what ruins the game for a lot more people in a far more detrimental way? Living out in a rural area where there aren't pokestops for miles. Those people can't even go around their area and catch Pokemon without paying money or driving miles into the nearest town.

My phones GPS is crap. everytime I go even a little bit off the bigger roads my character just stops responding at all. Theres a huge forest walk path right next to my apartment but its not worth to go there in hopes of catching pokemon cause my character stands still and teleports around. Theres also 3 pokestops really close to my apartment but I cant get my character next to them cause its a sand road just a little off the mainroad. What a bummer.

Go back a few replies in that post line. I proposed a way to fix that.

So? I don't understand what this point has to do with creating a handicap mode for people far away from pokestops.

The problem is, what would you consider far away?
If someone lives 250m from the next stop will get free balls but the person next door lives 245m next from it and won't get free balls, is that fair?

The solution of unlimited Pokeballs would not cripple anyone in any way. The people who live next to plenty already have unlimited balls with no effort at all, but people who live behind the moon can play the game normally.

Yeah, it's about pokemon. Which I need items to get.

You probably don't even have to walk where you live. You probably can catch some in your house. Yet you have to walk to get balls.

This is why the gameplay loop is fucked.

It should spawn Poke based on movement vs just spawning them based on the map. Not counting lures and incense obviously.

Poke should spawn at X rate for Y distance traveled. That way it gets people on the GO.

When you keep missing that Zubat

I'm not sure if unlimited balls would be the best solution either. An alternate way to do could be to refill the balls to a minimum point every day. So if I spend all my balls today, tomorrow it's refilled to 50 or something.

Also make items spawn randomly like pokemon do. Looking for chests and items in the wild have always been a part of the pokemon games. Maybe your pokemon can pick up items randomly as well when you walk.

Went out for lunch and had a walk around, saw a few lures going on which was nice to see.

Annoyingly I decided to upgrade a gym someone else had already taken over so I did about 5 battles, slowly getting more prestige. Right as I upgrade it to the next level so I can add one of my Pokémon I see someone else has somehow snuck theirs in so my levelling was for naught :(

Also I noticed Pokemon spawn way more in towns/dense areas and like never in rural areas...

I don't know but not 250 miles. That's far as hell. They could tinker with that.

No I can't, I have to walk unless I have insence. Or it gives me almost no pokemon ever.

Streaming yes, headcam not yet.
Aw, shame. Ideally, I think it would be neat to have a split screen with the cam and the game. Somebody will do it at some point. I'm waiting for someone to "hardcore" stream it by going in dangerous areas, the wilderness, or simply while black.

Lol. I captured my local post office near my work only for it to be taken back 20 min later.

On my way home for work, I'll recapture it. There is also a Lv 2 gym with a Exeggutor & Golbat guarding it. My CP 650+ Flareon is ready to destroy it!

Later, in bed, it hits me that this weekend was the most amazing, novel and unusual gaming experience I've ever had in my entire life. The diverse range of people I met playing this game, how insanely ubiquitous it already seems to be, how it's managing to get so many people OUTSIDE and exploring... it legit feels like the pokemon universe come to life.
Fuck yeah it has been. It's brought all my close friends 20 times closer together

I met a group of teens yesterday playing downtown, one of which holds all 9 gyms in town. I stand zero chance of getting a gym in town because this little dude has way more time than me, so I've given up on it already. I'll have to try somewhere else.

My bf has never played a Pokemon game before, but just caught a Dragonair, a high CP Pikachu, and has managed to snag SIX 10 km eggs....

This. There's three pokestops near me unless I go further than a half hour in any direction.

This game sounds super fun if I could walk to five or six pokestops in a reasonable amount of time.
Instead I drive ten minutes, get three pokeballs, drive ten more, hit those two stops, drive a while more and get to a gym.
This game is broken for people who live places like I do unless you pay money.

The worst part is there are plenty of landmarks and buildings that should definitely be pokestops or gyms, but ingress never took off here so fuck me I guess. The game needs a submission for stops/gyms process.

How you do upgrade gyms? After I captured a gym, the only option after I clicked on it was to fight against my own pokemon that I placed in the gym.

I wish I could capture a gym. 1hp glitch.

Every.Single.Time.

That's cause the whole gameplay loop is based on the map overlay vs distance traveled.

This means Poke Spawns, stops, rares, items, gyms well everything.

The core game all revolves around the map overlay vs distance traveled, and it needs to be fundamentally reworked to revolve around the latter.

Yeah, can be tough for some gyms. I noticed some high ones. But, over time getting higher CP Pokemon won't be that hard I think. My Eevee was like CP 150ish and then became a CP 650ish Flareon. But, I'll need bigger Pokemon to take on the bigger gyms. For now, luckily there are a lot of gyms in a like 15 mile radius of my place & work. So plenty to choose from.

Like someone else said, they should have a "home" point you can set that kinda works like a stop. Slowly heals your Pokemon over time but also allows you to get up to 5 free pokeballs per day.

I don't think that will ever happen.
