Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Ashby, the speed limit pertains to the distances you need to walk/jog/slowly ride your bike to hatch eggs, nothing else.
How do you leave a Poke at a friendly gym?

There'll be buttons on the bottom to train and leave a Pokémon, but you can only leave Pokémon if the gym has free slots.

The gym was the same color as my team, and j had a button on the bottom left of the screen. Bottom right is battle (1 on 1)

Ah the dark side of city living. I only had a boxing glove icon at my local Brooklyn friendly gym.
Just to elaborate here:

If you attack a friendly Gym, you get XP, and the Gym gets Prestige. To get the most benefit, attack with Pokemon very close to (especially slightly under) CP of what your allies have at that Gym. When a Gym gets enough prestige, it goes up in Gym Level and unlocks another Pokemon slot. If you're on the Gym when the slot is open you can leave one of your Pokes in it.

If any individual pokemon is defeated in an actual battle (other team), it gets sent back to the owner. Challengers have to defeat all of the pokemon stashed there to actually claim the Gym.

Holy shit I just caught two Pokemon and got Pokeballs from a Pokestop going 60 mph down the highway with my gf driving. Who said there was a limiter at 25mph haha

I think it's range based - I've been sitting in cars doing 30-40 and grabbing like 8 stops in a minute. It's awesome.

It's good to know that my surrounding area is basically just Route 1 and 2. Only get Pidgeys, Spearows, Ratattas, and Weedles. Thanks, Nintendo.

Also, anytime I actually go to the city proper the servers go down, so annoying lol...

Ha-ha, right? I already wasted one trip downtown. I'm scared I'll waste another.

If you're in NA then if you're on the east coast then go before the west coast wakes up. If you're on the west coast then wait for the east coast to go to sleep.

I'm really liking the game so far, it's really addicting - and great exercise too! Today's notable finds were Beedrill, Gloom and Eevee. I also had an egg (5km) in the incubator and a Nidoran hatched out of it. I was also amazed to see that other people in my area have been playing the game, I found a few gyms that were conquered by other players. Tackled on a few of those and won, ha! The battle system is a bit strange, I just tapped the screen furiously until the opponent's Pokémon fainted. Is it supposed to work like that? The game really makes me lose track of time and suddenly my walks are way longer than usual, there's always one PokéSpot that's nearby or a gym that I just have to check out... Hopefully they'll fix the server/connection issues in the near future, that's the only bad thing about the game for me right now.

lol I am walking by the lake in Centennial Park, Nashville and all around people are talking about and playing Pokemon Go.

Waiting for a corpse to float by any minute now.

Your options during battle are:

Regular attack by tap (charges your "super meter")
Dodge left or right by swiping
Special attack (when meter is charged) by holding down.

The special your pokemon has and how much it takes to fill the meter can vary, as can the type of the move (old super/not very effective rules).

I caught an Alakazam at the park!

Gym Battles are totally borked... They either won't load or I can't win because of the 1HP bug.

I wish there was some sort of indicator or something during battle of when you're "ready" for another move, and I wish special attack was just a button instead of a long press.
There's no feedback and sometimes things just don't register.

Wish this had even a "lite" version of the normal battle system instead of this "tap as fast as you can with some numbers attached" system.

Hopefully they gradually introduce the real battle system as a way to introduce newcomers to Pokemon.

That sounds kind of weird. If you haven't try uninstalling and reinstalling maybe? If you're using an apk, uninstall that and get the regular Play Store version. Outside of that you might just be boned for the time being, in which you should contact Niantic who might be able to help out. But at this point contacting them might be difficult lol

Yeah, that's soo strange! :/ I hope it gets fixed soon, if I wasn't banned!

Also, I do wonder how Pokestops are chosen. There are Pokestops in my city just for fucking murals on the walls near train tracks. I don't really understand why. Also, some of the descriptions seem to be from Google Maps or something, because I've noticed small grammatical errors like extra spaces in some of them.

The game prior to this (Ingress) allowed players to submit landmarks that could be used as portals (ingress's version of pokestops/gyms). They're using all that data for this game.

There desperately needs to be some sort of convenient, transparent way to suggest/edit PokeStops. There's a couple things by my house - shopping centers, parks, a sculpture or two, but none of it is in the system. When I go into town to find things, they're often spelled strangely or described wrong or have a terrible photo provided.

Let me fix that and do the legwork for you, Niantec/Nintendo!
I don't want my city represented by misspellings, out of date info, and out of focus photos with fingers half over the lens.

By the way, walking last night I found the most depressing Pokemon I've ever seen.

Come on bruh. I've found stronger Rhyhorns than you. -.-

You shouldn't be able to "Transfer" Favorited Pokemon.

There's a million little quality-of-life and presentation issues this app needs to fix.

Has anyone been able to takeover a gym? I'm running into the 1hp glitch and then my Pokemon die, other times it'll freeze and my Pokemon remain at full health. Could've taken over at least 3 gyms on the way home from work!

I live in Howell, NJ - the epitome of suburbia. I walked down the street to the Baptist Chirch (pokestop), spun it, then walked to the edge of the parking lot where a water tower (gym) stands. The gym has 2 Pokemon - a ~100 venonat and a ~400 vaporeon. I had never battled before but managed to beat venonat. I got vaporeon halfway down before my team bit the dust. It took a few minutes and then googling to realize how to heal my team. I thought with venonat down (does he stay down?) I might be able to take on vaporeon.

I challenge the gym again and now it's only a Venomoth. Weird..what happened? I then see a car with 2 dudes in front of the water tower in the short dead-end driveway. They reverse and drive off, and I realize they had beat the vaporeon and took over the gym, right in front of me! They were also team blue so I left my kadabra and went home. Looking now, 2 hours later, my kadabra is back with me and another Pokemon is at the gym. I can't believe this - I'm not in a major city or anything, yet the craze is in full effect.

This game is ridiculous. I love it.

I live near a cemetary and this is the first time I've seen kids just walking around the cemetary for fun. lol.

Just got back from a 1.5 hour walk down by the beach. Caught a shit ton of Pokemon (Dratini!!!) and am almost level 10. I've heard that you can catch a Gyrados right by the water but I walked around at the edge for a while with no luck. You have to go at the top of the beach where there's a bunch of Pokestops on the boardwalk to get all the Pokemon.

Also for me, walking on the grass tornadoes doesn't trigger wild Pokemon to appear so I'm not really sure how that works.

I can't get enough of those stories XD

I work at an answering service that takes after hours maintenance calls for apartment complexes, and last night I had a call from a tenant trying to report suspicious looking guys who kept stopping and looking at there phones... I had to page the on call maintenance man about it. I wanted to tell her, "look lady they're prolly just capturing pidgeys to level up their pidgot, chill"
