Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

So I'm still unclear if I get notifications of nearby pokemon when the screen is off and the phone is in my pocket. Seems I only get them when I have the app open.
There are no OS level notifications for anything ever or progress tracked unless the app is open. Even with the screen on and the app suspended nothing gets pushed, let alone when the phone is locked. Battery Saver lets you have the screen off by turning the phone upside down but still get the alerts for pokemon and count your steps.

Man servers are being hammered right now. Everyone and their mother is trying to get on. Managed to log in for a few minutes to catch 3 Pokémon until I got kicked off

Seeing everything seemingly working again for several minutes, only for it to suddenly burst into flames as if it was just waiting for you to start moving toward a Pokestop before dying is getting really old, really fast.

How do you guys feel about the pokemon distribution? I feel like it is a bit too generous, but maybe I'm just in a better than average area?

I've seen Sandshrew, Caterpie, Vulpix, Butterfree, Growlithe, Zubat, both Nidorans, Nidorino, Eevee, Pidgey, Spearrow, Dodou, Diglett, Mankey, Ekans, Abra, Paras, Geodude, Pidgeotto, Rhyhorn, Meowth, Rattatta, Exeggcute, Weedle, and Venonaut.

I live in a very suburban area in SoCal. Does this seem about right? I know some people said they're only seeing Zubats and stuff, but I feel like that's a bit too generous for one general area. Didn't go too far from my house for any of these.

Not to mention people randomly finding Dragonite in ordinary locations.

Since it seems like all 150/151 gen 1 Pokémon are available, that doesn't seem too bad. Your list seems like an urban Pokémon list. I wonder if trainer level has any bearing on it. Because a lot of what I see,and your list, are similar to be Pokémon found in the early parts of the games.

This game is going to be big. "Pokemon Go is now the No. 1 downloaded app on iPhone in the US and moved to No. 4 in the grossing chart. Incredible"

That's pretty sweet, but time will tell if it has staying power or become Miitomo 2.

So... any of you guys thinking of buying that Pokemon Go accessory now? I somehow see it very convenient now after playing Pokemon Go

I was thinking about it before but now it's a day 1 buy. It's classy looking enough I don't think it'll be too obtuse to carry around.

Wait, you got to choose? I didn't :(

When you first start the game you're supposed to tap on which starter you want to fight with. You can find the others during normal gameplay though, so I don't think you're missing out on much.

I'm standing right on a Pokestop, but it's not letting me use a Lure Module. Any idea as to why?
I'd have to figure that some features haven't been activated yet. I don't think most people would have tried to get the modules yet.

Do you have to resign into Google every time you reopen the app or is this just a symptom of the issues they're having?

Edit: And I'm back to server issues now so whatever...

Low power mode allows the screen to dim. You won't be able to play the game without the app being open. That seems to go without saying. But if you want to put the phone in your pocket and receive vibration notifications, low power mode will allow you to do so.

If I put the phone in my pocket in regular mode I won't get vibratation station?

Its the latter. Earlier I was able to close and open the app without having to sign in again.

I'm considering turning off 2-factor until they get the servers fixed......

There's a pokestop on my way to work that I'm going to check out tomorrow! I think a gym is also across the street from my job.

I was always tempted but if I can use it with the app actually off (or running in a mode where the screen is off at least) then it's an instabuy.

Ah okay thanks. I'll probably have to change my phone screen timeout setting too then.

Has Pokemon Go officially released in the US Google Play store yet, or should I stay on my APK version? Thanks!

Yes, its been out since yesterday. You don't need to uninstall the apk version as when you go to the store it will say you already have the app installed.

You will but the screen will stay on (eating your battery) and then your phone will seemingly lock after some period if you don't interact with it for long enough.

edit: Not yet sure how your system level screen timeout plays with Battery Saver mode

Cool that's what i figured.

Hopefully a future update will let you just save check-ins at a Pokestop to upload and reap the rewards later on.

Would also just be a good feature in the event you're in an area with no internet.

I can't find a goddamn poke.

Is there a grey pokeball in the the top-left corner of your screen? If so, then the game might not be connecting to the servers, which means you can't find any pokemon or interact with any pokestops. You can still manage your pokemon and view stuff, but you can't interact with the map.

^I wouldn't use incense right now. Wait until things are a bit more stable.

In beteween server shivers a 142CP Raticate just attacked me at my desk and now he's mine. I thank you noble rat for sparing me the need to waste any time evolving your purple predecessor.

Finally managed to start the app and catch a cuteass bulbasaur in my house. Only thing is it kinda froze after, not sure what to do I don't wanna lose my bulbasaur...

It's somewhat annoying that the servers were stable while I was at work all day, and then as soon as 5pm hits, boom, shit servers. And then they remain that was all evening. No wonder they aren't letting Europe on officially yet.

Gotta deport all those Hawluchas and Lombres. Get back to the original 151, like the founders intended.

(The joke doesn't work because we only have the original 151 right now but whatever)
If we had Gen VI, Tyrantrum and his tiny hands would be perfect.

"We need to bring America back to the Stone Age!"

The servers are really taking a beating, i think niantic underestimated just how popular pokemon + augmented reality would be.

+1 would like to know that as well. After all I have my play!pokemon ID (for VGC and TCG leagues/tournaments) associated with my trainers account. But I think google side got a better server? Hmm...

Google right now has a better server. I don't think there's any benefit other than that.
