Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

lol. People are already driving in this thread.
I downloaded the app in my car. Caught my Squirtle in my car and found over 10 of those Poke things while driving.
I came across an lol Zubat and passed on catching it, when I got back home there was a Zubat flying over my son's head so I had to catch it. This thing had me waste over 15 Pokéballs. >_<

Servers seem decentish for me at the moment. My canal spit out a few more magikarp. Feel so lucky to be next to a good source of them. It I catch a few every day I'm on the way to my Gyarados without even going out of my way.

Tracking down pokes using the nearby screen is honestly just fun in and of itself, IMO. I'm gonna use it to dictate my route around my complex walking my dog. There's a dratini around here somewhere 3 footprints away though, I wannit...

So this drains like 1-2% a minute for me on my Note 5 with auto.
Anyone have any tips on keeping it up longer? My phone's gonna die during a walk around town, long before I can get home.

Aren't there, like, Pokemon stamps and points and stuff you only get with a Pokemon Trainer Club account? I mean, everyone is this goddamned thread was like "sign up with a Pokemon Trainer Club account it's better," I assumed they weren't all talking out of their ass.
I'd love to see where this is listed officially. I made a google account because it's all that worked on the 6th and a PKMN trainer account yesterday after hearing about exclusives or whatever.

turn on battery saver and have your phone upside-down where you're just walking around/not doing any actions actively. Your phone will still buzz when a pokemon appears. Also, It's probably good to invest in a portable charger- they are awesome for when you are going through a day and don't know when you'll be able to reach an outlet.

First thing to do is go to Settings (it's in the corner when you tap the Pokeball for menus) and select Battery Saver. Keep in mind that each time this game forcefully logs you out for whatever reason, the settings reset to default.

You got 100+ pokemon in a day? Or were you in the beta?

I had the day off so I took the car and my iPhone charger and drove around catching Pokemon and refilling up pokeballs at stops until 4am. Ended up with 120 something Pokemon

Disclaimer: I took routes via suburbs so I could stop and park whenever the phone beeped

Edit: yes I live in a city

Power bank sales are gonna see an upwards trend worldwide lol.

So, uh, was anyone else here given Pikachu as an option for your starter Pokémon in addition to Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle? 'Cause I was, and so I chose Pikachu as my starter, but everyone else is telling me that Pikachu wasn't an option for them... I guess I just got lucky or something? I don't understand! I'm not sure if there's just a random chance of the gaming giving you a Pikachu as a starter, or if it was triggered some other way? I was riding in a car when I was picking my starters, and initially there were only 3 Pokémon around me, but because we were traveling in the car I couldn't stop and select a starter right away, so the three Pokémon kept spawning around me as we drove. Once we stopped I was able to see Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, but a Pikachu was also there, too. Maybe it happens if you ignore the other three and keep traveling until a Pikachu appears? I dunno, but if anyone else has experienced this as well I'd like to know!

Yeah, I got a Pikachu as a starter. I wanted a Charmander, but it was a little bit far, so I had to walk. And out of nowhere, there was a Pikachu

My google username is blank because it froze on the username creation screen and I can't seem to delete it to start over. Good programming.

So is this for city folk with lots of landmarks? Can't find anything out here in the boons.

they really stretch the definition of landmarks. there's anything from graffiti to signs, to clubs or local groups. I live in a small town and there's stuff all over the place. if you don't live in an area with places to walk, you probably won't find anything tho. I visited a spring earlier and it alone had like a dozen landmarks and 2 gyms.

Now I feel ripped off!
I was surprised to find out that it wasn't normally available for everyone! lol

I did read the same thing on reddit. seems to be luck
I hear Pikachu is a hidden starter. You have to walk around and find it before choosing Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur.
I was too, but I honestly had no idea it wasn't a normal option so I didn't pick it

Interesting, good to know I'm not alone and that there seems to be a way to trigger this!

The server problems wouldn't bug me as much if it didn't make me login again each time they happen. Maybe I'll give it a try again when they get the server issues under control.

Same for me, it's the second time it's happened for me.

Yep, happened to me too. Now I got kicked out and upon logging in my items and Pokemon were gone. I closed it and can't get back in so I hope it's just a glitch and my items will be restored once I am able to get back in again.

Just managed to get the game in Canada (with a US account), but I'm now getting a message that says "Failed to get game data from the server". Browsing this thread, that seems to be a constant problem. Would appreciate any tips on how to troubleshoot.

Should I not be using a Google account?

Edit: wait nvm, it seems you can ONLY use a Google account

Wait for the servers to come back up.

Kicked back out to "sign up with" for the first time. Sorvorz on Fiyah. Oh well, my pokestop loop will still be good exercise.

On the way home, I drove to the outlets near my house.
There is a big Water Tower.

This made sense.

Just noticed there's a gym in the nearby cemetery. Unclaimed, thankfully. But for how long?

I grabbed two unclaimed gyms today, one at a park and the other at the cemetery down the road of it. Even with all the server outages today, both got taken from me in a matter of hours. And this is in a fairly low-key suburb. So to answer your question, probably not that long.

So is there a difference if you use your google account rather than the Pokémon site account? I can't get on that Poke site for 2 days in a row. Doesn't work. Is there a difference on what you use?
