Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I can't get past the point where I have to tell the dude my name. Is it supposed to be a unique nickname? I already tried a bunch of handles that usually get me an account on various online sites, I can't imagine they've all been taken already and I don't wanna be stuck with a ridiculous name either. Is it because of the servers being wonky possibly?

I did sideload the apk since it's not out yet officially here.

It does have to be unique. And yes, most names are gone. I have some variations on this GAF name that I use and within hours of it being available to load they were all gone. It may share names with Ingress, which would explain that.
 
I think this game is going to wear out really quickly. I got logged out for some reason and can't log back in, launch issues, I get it. But completely lack of offline makes it literally impossible to use, mobile developers get your shit together.
 
My University is a great Place, lots of Stopps and saw a lot of People playing the Game and there isn't even a official release in Germany
 
Has anyone recently been able to login with a Pokemon Trainer Club account?

Been locked out and unable to log in for mast 19 hours.
 
Trainer Club accounts are still down.
Google accounts are working for the most part.

This morning I had a 90% chance of app lockup when catching Pokemon though.

I'm kinda in this boat right now. I was only able to play for around a half hour yesterday morning. When I went out in the afternoon, I was so excited to give it a try running errands, only to find the servers were down. Haven't tried it since. It's turning me off to the whole experience.
 
I know My Nintendo was mostly a DeNA setup, and this is not a purely Nintendo thing, but it's shame that Nintendo Account is not a valid login option here. I wonder if that would've helped matters, too.

Yes, to the above, Pokemon Trainer Club logins are down and have been down for the last 22 hours now.

Google logins are fine.
 
Seems like evolving Pokemon is a good way to get XP. Im starting to find strong pidgey and rattata that break out of pokeballs, and just evolving them for the xp, and I have more battle ready Pokemon with high cp. Had all these candies stacking up anyways. Just went from 12 to 13 in 30 minutes
 
I am getting the distinct impression that the guide on catching pokemon is wrong. It might be coincidence, but the last 5 pokemon that I encountered escaped when the circle was at its smallest, but I caught them (the ones that didn't run away, that is) when I waited for the circle to be as big as possible. Weird.

This may be incorrect, but from my own observations it seems like evolved pokemon are strongest when evolved by the player rather than found in the wild.
 
The most infuriating thing about the PTC logins is that they have said exactly 0 words about the problem. For all we know they have no idea its not working (although im sure they do).
 
The whole novelty of the thing is kind of wearing off on me. I gotta keep my phone on, drains battery, wastes data. Yeah, it's fun to catch pokemon and level them but the idea was more fun than practice. Eh, oh well. I had my fun.

It was open the entire time, I made sure. I even used an incense and nothing. The nearby list was consistently full of different Pokemon, but I never actually ran into anything.
 
My coworker has a problem of Pokemon not appearing in the real world when turning AR on.

Granted, she's playing froma country where game is not officially released yet but... nobody else in the office has the same issue.
 
Man how do people have CP 300+ pinsers & scythers at the gyms by me ? Did they catch 30 scythers ? Seems like that's the only way to train when yr pokes are too low to fight in the gyms right

I have no idea. The day before yesterday I was able to get on for 20 minutes threw Trainers club and create a account with user name NeoHydra. I chose a Charmander. I tried all day yesterday to get in but couldn't threw trainer club so I gave up and decided to go threw gmail to see if I could get in and I did. I tried NeoHydra and it let me use it so I don't know.

I have the same problem, someone earlier in the thread suggested the device perhaps could not do AR. I was playing on the kids shitty, cheap android pad. Playing from sweden where it aint released yet.
 
Sweet, got a Magmar from a 10km egg.
But damn did it take forever.

Gave me 30 candies to upgrade it though, so it's probably worth the time investment.
 
Has anyone been able to find out whats the best method to raise cp. Like should I raise it before they evolve or after. also if all max raided pokemon are the same if they are the same type of pokemon.

Thanks. Guess I'll continue to wait, and there go any chances of controlling Times Square-area gyms! Would've been fun to do at least for a few minutes on Day 1ish...
 
Man I hope us PTC players get some form of compensation for all this down time otherwise we will have a hell of a time trying to make up ground.

So I can tell you that for some names/accounts, this is actually glitched. When I tried yesterday with my Pokemon Trainer Club account (the one time I was actually able to log in with it) it wouldn't let me use my usual handle even though no one had taken that handle when I signed up for PTC and it's not like my handle is super common or anything. Yesterday night I switched to a Google account, and the second time I got prompted for a name I used the same handle and it gave it to me no problem.
 
Almost 40-50 people came in (it's a 24 hr store) playing Pokemon Go tonight

Even saw a couple of parents come in with their kids and help them catch Pokemans.
 
Huh, it's been working for me all morning, but just now I ran into that same glitch I saw someone mention the other day, where killing the last Pokemon in a gym will leave it with a sliver of health and never fainting. Eventually both Pokemon were stuck immortal while the loading ball kept spinning and even the timer running out didn't stop the fight. Nor could I run. And when I force stopped the app, it acted like my Pokemon were still unhurt, as if they hadn't fought at all. Weird, other gyms worked fine for me today.
