Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I've lost a gym like three times but I can't take it back because her Pokemon gets stuck at 1hp so fucking stupid. She just gets bonus for holding a gym because the game is broken.

But what if you couldn't catch the starter? That's what I'm trying to figure out. My girl's phone closed the app while trying to catch the starter, and booted back up after that sequence.

What android device did you buy? I was thinking of getting a Nvidia Shield K1, but i may go with a cheaper option.
 
Servers are a little better today (I can actually play), but they keep dropping every five to ten minutes, causing moments like this, where I wait with creeping disappointment for my Venomoth to register as captured.

How does it even work? I turn mine on because I just get a huge red notice that says that GPS is off. Thought I could bounce between pokestops but nothing seems to happen at all. Does the game even function well without GPS?

People can set their location to anywhere on rooted phones. So they just essentially tap where they "are".

In the starter guide linked in OP, it says this happens if you spam tap to attack in the beta. Probably hasn't been fixed. So don't spam tap?

I have two. Finally caught a Pidgey, but sadly have had some crazy awful luck getting anything to appear. I have to get a new driver's license after work, and I'm gonna walk there because this is what my life is now.
 
So do the PokeStops offer free items or is there a pay wall? Trying to figure out how I can power up/evolve these fools.

I'm still early in the game (level 4) so I'm learning the ropes, but I'm much more focused on "catching them all" than I ever was playing the main games. lol

I love how churches are pokestops and gyms. I go the same church (not that exact one), so I get to sit in church for 3 hours each sunday just collecting and fighting... and worshipping too.
 
Maxed my bag, been having to drop tons of balls so i can make room for potions, as those seem the most important item to stock up on thus far.

Just did my first evo - evee turned into a flareon - which is good because i have zero fire attackers yet. My one arcanine didnt come wotb any fire moves. Also hatched a pikachu and bulbsaur

Not sure if this has been brought up but Kawashima has shared some details about how Pokemon Go was originally conceived and how Iwata approved its concept. The words are really touching but they're in Japanese of course. Didn't manage to find any English translation; hope someone will come up with that soon.

BTW, judging from the timing, the Japanese launch is likely to be July 11, which is exactly 1 year after Iwata passed away?

I tried the battery saving mode on my sister's phone where it does work, and it seems to only make the screen black. It doesn't actually shut off the screen. So unless you have an OLED screen I don't know how useful it is.

Pokestops are free. They offer something like three pokeballs and a few other bonuses (i.e. Eggs), and can be used once every five minutes (indefinitely).

Semi unrelated:
Every time i try the battery save mode to walk with it upside down - once the screen goes black the game gets frozen when it comes back on. I have to reset the app.


Edit: most items from a pokestop ive received has been 7 or 8

Yeah, I didn't spam either and this happened to me. Then the servers went down, so I think it was because of that.

I think it also happens if someone else takes the gym while you're fighting.
 
Lesson of the day: don't go out after midnight play Pokemon GO XD

So the funny thing about Pokemon GO is that all of the gyms (at least in my area) lead me to churches. Methodist churches, Korean churches, Catholic churches, one Baptist church that was just a pokestop...

It was 4AM, and because I wanted to claim all of the ones that were as of yet unclaimed (there were 4 or 5 within a couple minutes' driving distance of one another) I suppose I did look sort of sketchy pulling into church parking lots, parking for a few minutes and leaving. Cue police officer driving past.

But it's ok. He's making a U-Turn and is going the opposite direction...no problem.

I make my way to the next location (this one being the baptist church that happened to be a pokestop) and as I'm pulling out of the parking lot I've already got my next destination picked out.

..Cue police officer driving past.

But he's going the opposite way, no problem. Feeling sort of anxious, though, because I understand that I look sort of sketchy here. Assuming this is the same guy, he's seen me pull out of two church parking lots already.

I go ahead and cap the next gym and just drive around for a bit (I enjoy driving in general) and notice another gym. A bit too late, though, because I already passed it and now I've got to turn around.

I turn onto one of the neighborhood streets, use a strangers' driveway to turn myself around and coast to the stop sign.

Cue police officer driving past.

Okay. No problem, low chance of this being the same guy and all.

He's heading North, and my next gym is to the South, so I make my left turn and.. SHIT. Shit. Oh shit.

Police officer makes a U-Turn (the kind they do when they're about to floor it and ride your ass with their flashing lights going) and I throw my phone in the passenger seat, put on my seatbelt and drive no faster than the posted speed limit for what feels like an eternity. I'm pretty close to home, and having a police vehicle tail you is pretty huge turn-off when it comes to relaxing nighttime driving, so I make a path for the house. He starts to give me a little more room, so I relax a bit and exhale some of the anxiety I'd been keeping in.

I eventually take my left.

He takes a left, still close behind.

Ok.

At this point he still hasn't turned his flashing lights on so I just remind myself that I'm close to home and that I have nothing to worry about. I slow to a stop at an intersection, and ...red and blue flash, bright as fuck.

Heart does a strange combo of sinking in my chest and a panic-y thumping sensation that won't go away. Super fuckin freaked out. Like he knows I'm driving about, playing pokemon go and he's here to bust my ass. Motherfucker's going to take my license, my phone, transfer all of my pokemon to the professor and then put me in jail.

It uh, went much differently than expected. Very nice fellow. I definitely went straight home, though.

tl;dr drove around playing pokemon go, got tailed and eventually pulled over by a police officer and he spooked me so good i went straight home.

It turns off the 3D rendering, which eats up a lot of battery.
 
Pros - Map and places of interests now work in central NYC today after the servers kept crashing and refusing to load.

Cons - Pokemon are not loading in areas like Bryant Park and the GPS in crowded locations like this just stops working.

Seems like they still have some fiddling to do before it's working as intended. Was hoping to catch a few Clefairies and Pidgies on my way to work but no luck. At least I caught a Pinser with 246 CP in the subway yesterday...
