Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I honestly don't think they expected this level of success.

Now the trick is going to be sustaining a good, active user base. Pushing updates that help with performance + adding new content relatively quickly is key. Maybe adding things like 'swarms' of Pokemon, etc.. Of course, adding trades is great also. Plus daily login freebies would probably be good.

Heh, how long til they update it with Shiny Pokemon, or Gen 2+.

I agree, I hope Niantis will take care well of this game otherwise I wish Nintendo will step up and do it themself. So much potential here.

It's immensily fun and I've been going out for walks/bike rides just because of this, which I normally don't.

But they really need to work out on the Gym bugs. The servers are stable for catching/pokestops at the moment, but the gym bugs keep on persisting.

- 1HP bug, so either you let your pokemons die, or kill the app which then causes the next one
- Gym battle countdown and then you're thrown right back out of it.

There are 2 rather easy gyms in the neighbourhood to take over, but just because of both issues, I can't take them over.

Are pokemon randomly generated on a per person basis or are there the same pokemon in the same locations?

Ex if I and someone else was standing right next to each other would the list of nearby pokemon be the same?

OMG Shiny Pokemon. That'd be sweeeet!
I think they should get the game to everyone first, then updates.

Eevees are literally everywhere where I am. I'm about to evolve another one. Hoping for anything but Flareon.

My girlfriend just found out the hard way that you can run out of Pokeballs. She is not pleased. Lost the chance to catch a Pidgeot.

But I caught it hehehehe

So if the gym near me is already owned by my team, but my Pokemon has much higher CP, can I go become the new leader? Or do we have go lose control first?

From frist page about the bug.

DONT SPAM THE APP BY TAPPING A MILLION TIMES. In beta, there was a huge bug where if you tapped a bunch of times without letting the app catch up, the opponent’s Pokemon would get stuck at 1 hp and keep attacking all of your Pokemon. Honestly, just wait until the animation is close to finished before tapping again and you should be fine and still do the same amount of damage.

You can become the leader if you put your higher CP pokemon into that gym. To do this the Gym will have to have an open slot, which means that if it doesn't at the moment, you'll have to raise its Gym Level by training there to raise its prestige. To do that most effectly, use a pokemon that is close-but-lower in CP than the ones there, not your highest. When a slot is opened up you can drop your highest one off.

Anyone who has a pokemon in that gym can get the daily coin bonus.

Nice day on a Saturday, someone is dropping lures all over our small city and I can't find them. Team Yellow finally took some gyms. My first time getting a chance to walk around, it's pretty fun. Saw a couple people playing but nobody was at the first lure spot.

Everybody gets individual instances of the same Pokémon.
So if you see a Weedle, you can catch it and so can everybody near you.

I had a really productive walk. I caught a Clefairy, evolved my Eevee (I got Vaporeon, my favorite Gen 1 Eeveelution), got closer to evolving my Horsea and Zubat, hatched a 5km egg into a Mankey, and when I got home a wild Ivysaur was waiting for me!

Any info on the apparent account banning for those playing the game in a region where it hasnt been released yet?

I want to play but dont want to risk a stupid ban for playing the game early

Is it true or just idiots fear mongering?

feels like every other person I see in Los Angeles near where I live is playing Pokemon GO.

No joke, tons of couples playing too.

They're the same. Last night me and my girlfriend were using the nearby feature to track two different pokemon at once. They don't behave the same for everyone though cause a Pikachu we found ran away as soon as she tried to catch it but stuck around long enough for me to nab it after like 7 tosses.

Just walking around Queens, I saw a ton of people. Pointed a Jigglypuff out to a super buff guy and he got all excited. This game is incredible.

If you go to the gym, you'll have the option to add a Pokemon to it, and if it's a higher CP you'll get added to the top of the gym.

The option to add only appears if the gym has less than 6 Pokemon already and someone has leveled the gym up enough to hold another Pokemon.

Servers finally appear to have stabilized. They were up all night and have been ...mostly good today. This is a good thing.

Now if they could just fix the game breaking gym battle bug.........

This shouldn't be so fun, but it is.

2 questions:

Are there any for example daily profits from staying in a gym without being defeated?
Can I somehow check if my Gyms are conquered?

Awesome! Thanks for the info, dudes!

The only feature that seems like a no brainer to me that they didn't add is a photo mode. Let me use the Pokemon I've caught to take funny pictures by putting them in poses and doing the AR thing.

Your profits from gyms come from the shop. You can collect every 21 hours. As long as you currently hold the gym, you can collect on that.

On the same note, in the shop in the top right, the number indicates the number of gyms you own. You can't look at them without getting up close to the gym, but between that and gym indicator next to the Pokemon you put in, you get a pretty good idea. If you ever suddenly have a Pokemon at 1HP, it probably was defeated at a gym.

1. Yes. As soon as you take over a gym go into the shop and tap the shield icon for some premium currency. You can do this every day for each gym.

2. Go into your Pokemon list and take a look at the one stationed at the gym. If it's still there there will be an icon beside it.

Important to note that I'm pretty sure that you can collect only once every 21 hours, no matter how many gyms you have. So I've been making sure I have several gyms on lock down before collecting.

I posted this earlier in the thread, but this is one of my major gripes with the game:

So maybe I'm missing something, but the reward system for gyms is fucking lame

The rewards don't take into account how long you maintained control of the gym. All that matters is that you have control of some gyms at the exact moment you plan on redeeming your pokecoin reward for the shop.

In big cities like LA it's a fucking accomplishment to maintain control of a gym for 20 hours or really any prolonged period of time. But the reward is identical if you were to mantain control for 5 seconds and then redeem.

Like I said, maybe I'm missing something?

IMHO, the gym reward system is retarded and very unfulfilling. You get the same reward if you spend a few mins to take over a few gyms then collect vs maintaining control of a gym for 20 hrs then collecting.

So I just got back from my usual neighborhood walk with this. As neat as it is, I don't think it's for me. One, it killed the whole relaxing feel of the walk for me. Two, the neighbors were looking at me like I was a nuts or like I was taking pictures of thier property. Now I have to hope I don't show up on the neighborhood watch list or something. lol

Yup for first point.

Multiple points!

1. Training at gym in the first place (whether or not it has a slot for one of your Pokemon yet) gives you XP and raises the Prestige of the gym
2. If the Gym goes up in Prestige level that unlocks another slot for you to put in a Pokemon
3. A challenger must defeat all Pokemon inhabiting an enemy gym, so leaving your Poke there is helping to fortify it
4. Having a Pokemon defending a Gym grants you a daily bonus of the cash shop coins (Shield icon on the shop page). You don't have to be the gym leader, the bonus is the same.

If SGDQ wasn't on, I would be spending all my time outside this weekend (except for returns home to charge my battery). I took over a local gym, hatched a rhyhorm, evolved and boosed a pidgeot, and caught a few new pokemon and a whole bunch of pidgey and weedle. I've also discovered a whole bunch of parks and such within walking distance from my apartment. This game is great to incentivize community exploration.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm finding stuff in my town that I never knew existed. It's gotten me out of the house, either by myself or with friends, a ton more. Even got the girlfriend to drive me around yesterday and catch stuff. She likes driving, I catch Pokemon. Win-win.

Seeing all these Eeveelutions in the thread is making me sad. I walked around for two hours and couldn't find one. :(
