Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

I'm traveling right now, if I come across a gym & leave a Pokemon there will I ever get them back? If I'm not back in Texas again

If SGDQ wasn't on, I would be spending all my time outside this weekend (except for returns home to charge my battery). I took over a local gym, hatched a rhyhorm, evolved and boosed a pidgeot, and caught a few new pokemon and a whole bunch of pidgey and weedle. I've also discovered a whole bunch of parks and such within walking distance from my apartment. This game is great to incentivize community exploration.

Oh, I totally love what it does for folks that may otherwise not spend a lot of time outdoors. I think it's an especially great app for today's kids. But as someone who already regularly walks and goings hiking, it kinda killed the mood for me (even though I think it's really cool).

When your Pokemon is defeated it will return to you. You must then click on a revive to heal it.
How are people levelling the starters? Are they catchable in the wild or is there another way to get candy?
They're catchable and hatch from eggs, but very rare.

I posted this earlier in the thread, but this is one of my major gripes with the game:

So maybe I'm missing something, but the reward system for gyms is fucking lame

The rewards don't take into account how long you maintained control of the gym. All that matters is that you have control of some gyms at the exact moment you plan on redeeming your pokecoin reward for the shop.

In big cities like LA it's a fucking accomplishment to maintain control of a gym for 20 hours or really any prolonged period of time. But the reward is identical if you were to mantain control for 5 seconds and then redeem.

Like I said, maybe I'm missing something?

IMHO, the gym reward system is retarded and very unfulfilling. You get the same reward if you spend a few mins to take over a few gyms then collect vs maintaining control of a gym for 20 hrs then collecting.

Agreed. I live near downtown LA, there are 10 million people within a few miles of me. No way am I controlling a gym for longer than a couple hours, even with ridiculously strong Pokémon.

This is probably one of the greatest mobile apps out there, and stuff like this is why. This is the first time I've been outside just to be outside.

Is it possible to view the map beyond the default range? I want to check the status of the gyms downtown but I can't quite see that far on the map...

Your best bet would be to download the Pokemon Go unofficial chat app and ask someone to check, but I believe the server for it is currently dead (too much trafic)

Hitmochan is not rare at all, that thing was more common than zubat at a park I was at. As I left 3 of them appeared in one spot.

Lucky you. I've never seen any single stage Pokemon aside from a Snorlax that someone used to take over one of my gyms.

Just evolved my eevee into a 730cp vaporeon. After all my frustration this morning, that more than made up for it.

Also hatched my 10km egg into a 378cp electabuzz.

And that's why I hope they hurry up with giving good post-release updates. They have their foot in the door, but the basic human can easily get distracted at the nearest shiny*.

The really need to get the game out to the rest of the world.

So does the grass popping up in the air mean there is a Pokemon there?

Supposedly that's more if an indication to "Hey, go in that direction and you have a better shot at finding a pokemon." You won't find one if you are exactly over the grass.

So if the server fucks up during a time when you are capturing a pokemon then you are fucked cause it just freezes? That sucks. This app is pretty good but needs sooooo much work

The hype is fucking real, wow. First it started with people on Facebook who I know are gamer's. Now it has spread to non-gamers picking this up and playing this. Nintendo won

Sometimes you get lucky and it counts that you caught it. Other times not so lucky.

The good news is that the servers seem to be doing better every day.

It's really nice to see so much positive effect on people and thankfully other players are friendly in general too so you can have really nice encounters like that person had.

Alright so I just got home, it's 2:30am. My birthday was yesterday and I wasn't having the best day. I went out of my way to see my friends who all pitched in to spoil me with a $12 bottle of wine. when the last person in our "group" had their birthday they were given an expensive piece of jewellery worth $300... So safe to say I feel a little under appreciated.

I got home feeling really upset and depressed so I decided to distract myself by downloading Pokemon Go and giving it a fair play. It was then I realised how interactive it got and decided, hey, why not, and got my bike out to go for a night ride.

It was I was riding down my street I noticed there was a lure module activated a couple of blocks away so I started heading towards there and ran into a group of people walking. I didn't say anything as I was a bit worried (it was almost midnight) but they asked me if I was catching Pokemon and I said yes. They started telling me about the poke stop they were about to go to, their plans to walk to the gym about 5km away, and I thought, hey I might tag along for a lil bit.

For the next three hours we all walked about 10km, stopping at poke stops to activate modules, shouting it when there was a Pokemon, drinking alcohol out of a water bottle, and running into about a dozen more trainers doing the same thing.

Pokemon Go created such a sense of community in my suburb that is notorious for its high crime rate. I am still so amazed at how welcoming everyone we ran into was, all because we were all playing the same game. One trainer we ran into had a life module on, and we stayed there for a couple of minutes and caught some Pokemon and then moved onto the next. He was driving and when we got to the next place 1km away, he drove up and out another module on our location and then drove off again. What a fucking legend.

I'm sorry if this is all over the place, I'm on my mobile and a bit tipsy, but I fucking love this game and I hope it never dies out

Hmm, so far it seems like I can just sit in my chair and keep exiting and re-entering the app and there will almost always be a Pokemon for me to nab. Maybe it's just luck.

Went to Houston museum district for like 2 hours. Already managed to get most of the Pokémon here.
Besides a bunch of Pokéstops, it was pretty useless. Saw a ??? Pinsir, but it ran after 1 failed Pokéball. There were Ponyta in the area too, but I never managed to encounter them.

Was totally defeated, but coming back home, I ran into a Vaporeon (only 13 CP though) and a Dratini. Managed to get both, now I'm super hyped.
