Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

The fact that you need to let the app open and on screen all the time is ridiculous.
Basically it's charge up your phone 100%, go for a two hours hunt, go back home.

Yeah, this game has so much potential, and I have no doubt it will achieve all of it in time, but it's definitely painful right now. Kind of a love/hate relationship I have going on here.

1) Needs to work with screen locked to save battery.

2) Needs to have Pokemon in the wild, not just in urban and sub-urban areas. Put all of Google's map data to use! It knows how to procedurally figure out environments based on size of woodlands, lakes, mountain ranges etc. Get these poor Pokemon out of polluted towns!

3) Needs to introduce an in-app suggestion box for new PokeStops to make rural play feasible, like Ingress once allowed. Open up environmental features like ancient trees and awesome rock formations as potential PokeStops and Gyms.

Was getting ready to go to bed and decided to check the app one last time. See the outline of a Magmar. Fuck. Roll out of bed in a wife beater and boxers, throw on my moccasins, and head outside.

It says it's on the opposite side of my backyard wall which is a main street and quite a trek (about 1 km to get out of my cul-de-sac ). I get 3/4 of the way there and it disappears. I continue the walk to where it should be.

Nothing. It's gone. Hang head and walk back home. Get in bed. Look at Go one more time. It's back. Fuck.

xD

Similar thing happened to me, with a Snorlax. It was across a creek with no nearby brigde, so I couldn't go any further.

Oof. A ridiculously difficult to catch Fearow seriously depleted my stock of PokeBalls yesterday, but I didn't realize just how much...until I set an incense while I was walking my dogs and ran into a Dragonite and ran out of PokeBalls in two throws. That was legitimately upsetting.

Got this guy today! Then imagined running into this if it were real.. terrifying..
"Never Talk to me or my son ever again!"

Just a thought...

For those of us playing on the APK - are we going to miss out on any updates pushed in the next few days until official launch?

I have a developer friend who told me we'd have to download each version manually. So download the 1.1 apk and so on. It'll be fine until it hits our regions as well.

Finally side-loaded the game, since it's not out in Greece yet. Didn't have much time, but I played through a couple small towns for a bit. Unfortunately there's only one PokéStop that I could find, but I did catch a few (mostly common) 'mons. So far I have:

Charmander x1
Exeggcute x1
Zubat x3
Pidgey x2
Paras x1
Weedle x1
Raticate x1

It's so damn fun! Looking forward to the official release! :D

No! They would find my body in Aokigahara if that happened. Dragonite is my favorite.

I have a bunch of incompatible phones, any risks if I attempt to force the APK on it? I have an aussie account but I'm currently in Japan, so kinda thinking there's not much point anyway.

It's crazy how accurate some of the Pokemon locations are. There is a power plant by my house and my neighborhood is full of Magnemites and Voltorbs.

I expected it to place certain types of Pokemon in certain parts of nature, but I never expected them to actually put certain Pokemon in different places based on man made locations.

Don't waste your time. Game isn't live in Japan yet. If it was we would definitely have noticed it thanks to the sight of melted server farms.

I hate this. I drove an hour round trip to a huge power substation looking for electric pokemon and only found more rattata. I just want an electric type so I can destroy all these pidgeot gyms.

The problem is that the Japan maps haven't been uploaded / their information is locked, so no matter what you use to access it, you won't see anything.
Even if you were from the US with a US phone having played already in the US, as soon as you put your feet in Japan, you won't be able to see anything.

Managed to catch 17 diffrent ones without even leaving my home yet, ran out of balls tho so need to go get more.

I´m completly clueless tho.

I saw that. Link the album as a link or both pics in each img brackets with in a quote. Must be ending in .jpg or what format you have it in.

I wish I could check to see the status of the gyms I left Pokemon at, just to know if more teammates showed up, or if the gym's been weakened.

EDIT: So evolving just flatly doubles CP? I evolved a 250CP Eevee into a 500CP Jolteon.

Headed down to one of my local parks to farm Dratinis. Halfway to Dragonair now! Plus caught a few other neat Pokemon like Nidorino, and powered up my Hypno to 674. Defending two gyms right now and hatched a 10km and 5km egg - Chansey and Vulpix respectively.

This game is seriously addicting and it's going to get me fit from all this walking, goddamn.

How are you guys getting Pokémon in your homes?
Is it with Incense, or just good locations?

I'm starting to think area density plays a huge factor. I live outside of the city in Dublin, with only little to no locations (Spots & Gyms) nearby, and I don't get any Pokemon while in the house. Though when I'm in the city, with a large volume of locations nearby, I'll randomly get something every 10 - 15 minutes without moving, incense or lures.

Just wasted all 50 of my Pokeballs trying to catch a 509 CP Ninetales. The damned thing was so far away that it was near impossible to hit and when I did manage to hit it it got out of the Pokeball easily even though I used a Razz Berry on every single throw. :(

I think it's just random, but there are apparently a bunch of Gastlies at the hospital near me, hah.

So my current worry is even when Go goes live in Japan none of my phones (specifically the one that actually has an active SIM... though I guess I'm going to buy a prepaid in about two weeks, so I could just jam that into my Nexus 4 which is compatible) are actually compatible... are we thinking more phones will be compatible when it launches? I have a DOCOMO Japan-only model phone, so I was hoping that was the reason and it'd flip to compatible when it goes live here, but...

quick question, if I leave the app open in the back ground but doing something else (like Facebook), will it work? I have never caught any pokemon like that, it seems I have to have the app open and screen on while walking

Finally got an raticate through evolution need ten more Candies for golbat and beedrill. Strangely addictive game

Yes it is.

Found myself getting annoyed at the constant pidgeys and ratatas in my area until I realised that this is how you can evolve.

Needless to say, I now have a Pidgeott!

If you haven't already try turning off AR, it's been much easier catching Pokemon with it off for me.

Has anyone found a Machop, Machoke or Machamp? They are probably not in any specific type of place but thought I'd see where someone else has caught one.

Man, I see some silhouettes in the sun, and I mix them up with other Pokémon from future gens.
Then I get bummed when what I thought was a Milotic is actually a Magikarp.

Wonder how long it'll take for more Pokémon. Hopefully it's not like a yearly update, but I have a feeling they're gonna take their time.

Absolutely fucking pissing it down again while the servers are stable. I hate this country.

How the frak can you mistake a Magikarp for a Milotic? haha

I've heard conflicting things.

There's a low power mode where the screen dims if you turn your phone upside down, but then my phone locks anyway.

I guess if I turn off the automatic lock on my walks then I'll get a buzz when something pops up.

Nope. All features of the game only work when the app is open and in the forefront.
When the wrist band comes out later, that'll fix your problem.

Have you checked a local gym?
