Out of the three 10km eggs, I've gotten Scyther, Onix, and Electabuzz. So they're usually pretty good.

Get as many Pidgeys as you can, pop a double exp item then evolve them all at once, then transfer them for candy.

Trainer level has no effect on the distance of the eggs. It all depends on how lucky you are every time you swipe the pokestop. I have 10km egg that's been sitting in my back since I was level 7.
