Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Just going to take this opportunity to point out that Choice Specs Modest 252 Sp.Atk Zapdos outspeeds and OHKOs both Articuno and Moltres, regardless of build, with Thunder. They don't even got a chance.

#Instinct
Not quite; 252 HP 252 SpD Calm Articuno can survive.

But let's be fair, Zapdos is always the competitive winner.

Hope you're right about Eevee kyan_hexagon, I wanted Vaporeon!

For all you proud Pokemon Hunters. Why not just put a Pokeball sticker the back of your phone? I recommend the Mare Odomo stickers:

How do you get the different kinds of Eevee evolutions? In the wild?
Also if I choose the read team, will I still be able to catch Zapdos and the blue bird in the wild?

They're random(if you evolve eevee), but you can also find them in the wild. Joining a team doesn't have any affect on what legendary bird you catch.

Last I heard Eevee evolution is random. What team you join doesn't affect what Pokemon you can catch.

EDIT: Beaten like the Team Valor gym in my town.

So yea, i've never played a Pokemon game in my life but the hype got me...

Installed Go on my iPhone 5s and it actually worked decent enough besides freezing when I caught the first Pokemon but my horrible horrible battery went from high 40s to dead in about 10 minutes... Did find that there is a gym very near where I live at a library it looks like and something at a statue outside. Just going to wait till tomorrow to check this thing out since i have a new Android phone coming anyway to replace my Apple junk. :)

Thanks for the FAQs I definitely need those!

Yeah and signed in again it re-applied the privacy thing. Still no notification about it.

Play and give us everything or dont play at all. :(

I think what everyone should remember is that Niantic, makers of Ingress, used that game as a backdoor for Google to capture location data. I can't imagine Pokemon Go being any different.

I can't believe this thing is running off gmap consider how good google map is on my phone and how shitty this game is at locking gps signal

Good thing i logged in with my spam email. No real name and no phone number or anything linked to it.

Not like Google didn't already know that info but I don't like the idea of these guys having it.

And the fact that there's no information or pop-up when signing in is crazy. No verification or request at all, its just there. Madness!

Yeah the battery drain is so real. I don't think I'll ever be able to play this consistenyl with my Nexus 5 even with the saver mode ON.

And of course I'm sure as hell not going to buy a new phone for this lol

They really should have got a more competent developer to make the app. Like seriously the amount of bugs is ridiculous.

99% of the bugs are likely server capacity bugs. Scaling an application to the degree they need to in a week is insane. I would guess they would have never expected this much popularity so quickly, and even if they had it would be impossible to beta test this level of popularity without a lot of guesswork.

I'm guessing they're spinning up servers as fast as they can, and only that goes so far when they need to also scale out their databases and other difficult to scale components.

The game isn't getting less popular. It's still spreading like crazy.

Servers died after a 2.5 mile bike ride to a local park area that has 2 low level gyms and 6 stops. The struggle is real. Maybe they will come back up while im still here.

Showed the game to my mom today. She now wants to have it on her phone. Last time she played anything was the fly swatter mini game in Mario Paint.

Is there a way to know exactly how much CP a Pokémon will gain know evolution? I've got a 265 Pidgeotto but just caught a 114 Pidgey. I don't want to waste candies on the Pidgey if it isn't going to be significantly higher than my Pidgeotto.

Went for a run today and goddamn, this game has taken over this city. At least half of the people I saw out were lookin for Pokemon.

Hard to tell because the higher level you are, the higher the CP gain. I would just stick with the Pidgeotto, unless you really need the experience from evolving Pidgey.

Wow is there really no way to discard unwanted eggs? I have all these 2km eggs that I don't want :L.

2km eggs are awesome!

BTW, if I bike to hatch eggs and surpass let's say 2km the screen shows the egg and wants me to touch it etc. If I just ignore the egg at that point (because it's in my pocket and I don't want to interrupt my ride) will it still track my kms or will it just stop until I tap the egg to hatch it?

there's a Magmar 3 "steps" from here and i can't leave work to go hunt it down. ;(

i'll try incest and see if it works.

So, this game is pretty shallow, isn't it? I made it to level 5, got my ass kicked at the closest gym a few times, and have gone through all my starting items. Including Pokeballs. At this point, my only option is to go around to every Poke Stop and farm healing items and Pokeballs or spend money, right? It feels lame. Especially because the game doesn't bother to actually explain the battle mechanics at all. The lowest level Pokemon at the closest gym to me is a 500-something Flareon and my highest is a 200-something Hypno. It pretty much wipes out my whole team in one shot.

This sucks, at first it seemed like this game could've really been cool.

I just had another interesting pokemon encounter during my lunch break.

---
I tagged along with a coworker for a stroll with my pokemon Go open so I could grab pokestop items and capture random pokemon.

As we were walking back I caught a Slowpoke as we were passing some building. We turned the corner and saw a group of 4 professional looking people standing shoulder to shoulder looking down at their phones in frustration. My co-worker and I just glanced at each other and realized they must be on PokemonGo.
Then one of them said "I know it must be somewhere here the slowpoke has to be in this area".
I laughed and walked up to them and told them "I just caught a slowpoke, it's around the corner over there"
They all smiled, said thanks and jogged off to get it.

It was by far one of the strangest, unique, and coolest gaming moments I've had in a long time. I know a lot of GAF won't want to embrace this game or games of its' style but it is definitely a game-changer. Like this game hasn't officially released in Canada yet and I'm already seeing tongs of people playing it outside and beacons lured up all over the Toronto Financial District

Also another 2 weird moments I had was last friday when me and two friends were walking back from a rib festival and my friend stopped on the sidewalk to catch a pokemon. A jeep drove by and the back window was rolled down. As it drove by I could hear a kid screaming "OMMGGG POKEEEEMONN". We continued walking up the street and two girls walked past us talking about what pokemon they caught to each other. It was such a surreal experience seeing kids enamored with a game that isn't even officially out yet. The game is definitely resonating with the younger generation a lot more than I expected it would and I'm glad it is.

If a Pokémon is on the "near" liat, how much is the range where its possible to find it? Searching around for Pidgeotto but not luck.

Local college has a track that has a bunch of Pokestops on it as well as a Gym. Just left and the place was packed with people playing the game and walking the track getting exercise while doing it to hit the different stops.

This is so freaking cool to experience

Aight, think i'll stop playing until they get rid of these bugs. The GPS doesn't seem to work half the time, and the other half i have to deal with the game freezing whenever i try to catch a pokemon.
Same here. It's killing it for me. Every time I go to catch a Pokemon, it locks up. And it's not like in using an old phone. I have an iPhone 6+

You're being beat by people who invested more time than you. To combat them you will have to invest time too whether it's at stops or just walking to hatch eggs.

So I think I'm starting to grow tired of the game already. The game is essentially an interactive fitness app, and since I already regularly go for walks and hikes, I find using this during such outings kind of takes away the reason I'm out there in the first place.

Plus, all the gyms near me are already being held down by Pokemon that are way stronger than any I have the will to actually get around to leveling to that extent.

In the end, I think it's a super neat app that is great for a lot of people to actually get them outside, but I'm not sure the game has staying power for me personally.
Yeah, I'm feeling that same thing.I'm to busy working out most days a week, that the rest days I do allow myself I'm to damn tired to go walk aimlessly.
I don't know... I think it's great that so many people are getting outside, being more active, and especially meeting and talking to one another in person... but I don't want people to get the impression that treating it as something related to fitness is the only way to play. Actually, I would say that calling it an interactive fitness app is sort of laughable, although it has definitely convinced me that an actual AR game centered around fitness would be awesome for me.

It's way more about "getting out of your house" than about "exercising." Obviously there's a big correlation between the two- especially for lots of people who aren't generally physically active or fit like you guys are- but I assure you from direct experience that not everyone playing this game is treating it like anything close to a fitness app.

Not everyone will have the same experience or play at the same pace and it's definitely keeping that in mind. Your options for play are (at least for the moment) 100% determined by the locations you have access to. But if you can go somewhere that has a few Pokestops, in a locale like a nice cafe or restaurant, a boardwalk, mall, movie theater... you can go there in a nice air-conditioned car, sit down in a good spot, and make tons of level progress and catch bunches of mons, especially if one or more lures get involved. You can also cruise around in your car between stops and Gyms without ever getting out if you so choose. Finally, for some people it will be viable to just kind of pop open the app while going about their regular routine and doing whatever is available. I know a lot of "non-gamers" that live in my area are going to treat it exactly that casually and there's nothing wrong with that either, as much as I love seeing so many people out and about walking and on bikes.

It's funny because both of them, when I glanced over to them, they quickly put the phone down. Glad I'm not the only one who feels awkward as fuck when someone sees me using the app. lol
Heh there's always that hesitation, like "they must be... are they? what if they're not, fuck."

After randomly encountering people at a gym at 4:30AM last night though I'm feeling more confident about recognizing people using it and saying hi.
