Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

it's actually not THAT hard to level... you just have to be in a populated area and spend some time on it. My buddy is level 16 and has spent $0. He just plays A LOT lol

I'm level 6 already, but feel I've played quite a bit (three 3-4 mile runs, stopping for them as I go, multiple long dog walks).

Your friend is only going to get stronger faster than everyone else too. I think they need more incentive for regular folks, or they're going to slowly fade away as the gyms are just locked down.

Heh, kept running into the same people at Poke stops on the way home from my usual walk today, they were on bikes

I have a feeling the Gym around the corner from me is going to be hotly contested lol

Should I hold onto my eggs? I'm level 4

I do think the bit about the order in which they appear on the nearby screen is accurate, though. A three-print pokemon in the top left slot is closer than one in the bottom right.

That isn't right.

Were the other people getting anything that you weren't? Every single pokemon attracted by a lure should be visible to all present. 10 for the half hour seems more reasonable, that's one every 3 minutes. The specific ones you got, could just have been bad luck

Yeah I'm thinking I just had bad luck. I seem to do better riding my bicycle along trails we have here and catching things along the way, in addition to fighting gyms and collecting Pokestops.

Wtf the owener of the gym close to my house has a +500 CP pokemon? how in the hell? game is not even released here.
Certain areas are flooded with the same Pokemon. I caught enough Magnemite in my neighborhood to evolve and level to a 570CP Magneton. I just took my dogs for individual walks the past two days. It would be higher, but it won't let me level it anymore until my trainer reaches a higher level.

This mess!

Westboro Baptist Church recruits Jigglypuff, a Pokémon, against LGBT community on Pokémon Go

A battle may be looming between some Pokémon Go users and the Westboro Baptist Church.
The new augmented reality game, which connects to a user's phone GPS, sent fans wandering to their local parks, historical landmarks and churches — including the Westboro Baptist Church. As people across the country devoted their weekends to catching Pokemon, one user noticed that the church, known for its opposition to the LGBT movement, was listed as a gym on Pokemon Go.
So that user claimed it, using a Pokemon named Clefairy. Its nickname is "LoveIsLove."
The Westboro Baptist Church is fighting back, using one of the most commonly known Pokémon: Jigglypuff.

Get ha Clefairy!

It just says to me that this is a shitty, insidious mobile game first and a Pokemon game second.
Look if you're going to go down that road rather than just rationally stating to yourself, "This isn't for me," I think it's worth mentioning that the game is

1) Free
2) Not a traditional Pokemon RPG title in any way
3) 100% able to be played enjoyably without any microtransactions

Your expectations of what "a Pokemon game" should be and what "shitty, insidious mobile games" do are a fucking terrible barometer for game design. You don't like it, that's fine. Accept that for what it is.

If the exploration of my own community, extra exercise, and new friendships this game has facilitated for me were done insidiously, then I guess the word is void of all meaning. Outside of glitches, instability, miscellaneous other technical frustrations, it has been a really positive experience for me and I haven't spent a dime. No need at all to sling shit all over it.
Sort of. You can buy incense and sit and watch TV all day and level up that way.
that would be really inefficient and boring, but I think I understand the point you're making and you should probably mention Lucky Eggs, which you can pay for to just directly make yourself level way faster no matter what you're doing. But none of that is necessary which is all the difference in the world. You get what you put into it in a lot of ways.

I guess this game is useless unless you're a city dweller.

Had to travel for miles to find the nearest gym. Sod doing that on a regular basis. I've yet to see a Pokestop.

As a result this game is pretty much... nothing.

Really sucks, and while I don't think you have to be a city dweller by any stretch I definitely hope they address communities that simply don't have the POIs populated from Ingress to make the game enjoyable. What area are you in?

Me and my brother pass by a pokestop with a lure active then, out of nowhere a pikachu pops. We proceed to catch it and then the bug happens. We both fail :(

I live in a small town, and the most populated or trafficated area would be a Wal-Mart. Will I be able to find a lot of pokemon there because it is so populated? Thanks, I dont want to take the long ass drive out there for nothing, or I would just go see for myself lol

The placeholder for Pokemon GO seemed more traditional, why do you think this is the final "base product"? Like for instance U'd rather have a pixel art trainer with more clothes options and a skin color changer than the half baked 3D model we got.
They are going for a very, very broad range appeal here. A lot of younger kids and casual gamers aren't that keen on pixel art.

There definitely need to be more appearance customization options regardless.
The CP instead of levels thing makes no sense either.
I believe they hadn't considered the potential confusion between pokemon level and trainer level (which does not exist as such in the RPGs) when first exhibiting the concept.

Was this done to draw people back to the main series if there wasnt enough meta depth here?
No.

I think if Go causes an uptick in sales for the next traditional Pokemon RPGs (and I'm sure it will), that is just fine and dandy with Nintendo.

But this is quite simply one of the most successful applications of all time. Considering it anything other than what it is, such as a complex advertisement for other games, is missing the forest a bit.

I can't believe those shit buckets at the Westboro Baptist Church dragged down my Jigglypuff for their stupid slanderous propaganda.

Although I did find it funny that someone in that hate group used the anime as inspiration for the whole Clefairy/Jigglypuff ordeal.

Yeah same experience here. It's a great game at home, I live near the center of an old city with lots of monuments, so I have six pokestops within a few meters of my home and lots of pokemans everywhere. But today I went on holiday to Belgium and either the servers are down all afternoon and evening, or Belgium has been somehow locked out of Pokemon Go, or it's simply that holiday homes don't have any landmarks and are therefore a shit location for the game. But there are literally no pokemans to be seen anywhere.

Used to be the case that the quality of your holiday home could be measured in flatscreen TVs or wifi connection. Now it's the number of pokestops around the home.

Gym/PokeStop range should be slightly expanded depending on your area's weather.
A couple nights ago it was pouring raining and I was trying to get to a gym in the middle of an uncovered plaza, but I just barely couldn't get close enough without standing in the downpour.

My local PD is don't their part to keep people safe while playing pokemon go .

My police department put out a similar message.

https://www.facebook.com/MedwayPoliceDepartment/?fref=nf

"Pokemon Go" is a free game available on iOS and Android phones which is very popular right now including in Medway. Players use their phone's GPS and cameras to navigate around actual locations in order to "capture" characters. It's a virtual scavenger hunt in the real world.

This PD and many others have received numerous calls regarding suspicious persons wandering around and using phones to take odd photos and videos. It's been found that most of these calls involve persons playing "Pokemon Go" as they are searching for characters using their phones.

Unfortunately, there are elements of danger involved as there are credible reports of "Pokemon Go" being used to lure unsuspecting persons to chosen spots where they can be victimized.

If you or your family members and friends are playing this game, please keep safety in mind and be courteous to traffic and owners of private property.

Holy hell this game is buggy today. It wasn't anywhere near this bad all weekend when I'd expect there was much more traffic.

Is there any benefit to personally holding a gym. I took over one but I don't know if it's anything more than changing it for your team

Every 21 hours, you can collect 10 gold and 500 stardust for every gym that you personally have a pokemon defending (up to 10 gyms, so up to 100 gold and 5000 stardust per day). Go to the shop menu, and hit the shield in the top-right corner to collect your rewards. Definitely worth holding yourself, at least for long enough to collect.

Holy crap Kabutops! Want! I forgot how much I loved him. I'm not sure I've ever even seen one rendered in 3D before!
So when do you best throw your ball? When the circle is big or small. I'm reading conflicting reports
Small.

Go to your Shop screen and there's a button in the top right. Click it (unless you plan on taking any more gyms in the next little while). It gives you a Daily Bonus (including 10 Pokecoins, the cash shop currency, per gym) and starts a 21 hour timer to reset.

So I've been reading posts from people living in countries where this app hasn't been launched, using it.
Is there any way I can buy it now? I'm on vacation in the US but my iPhone was bought in Europe and it's not on the app store.

my most urgent request for Pokemon Go, not related to gameplay:

1. ability to listen to music/podcasts while the app is up
2. better battery life

It's free!

I don't know much about iOS but the method has to do with switching your region in your account settings (to US or Aus) and downloading it from their App store.

You can definitely do 1, just open pokemon first, then switch to your music.
