Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Started playing today to give me something to do whilst I walk around at lunch. Went to some interesting places that I didn't know existed. On the way back encountered a gym fight in the pavilion that is in the park near work, lo and behold two people were standing in there.

Was a nice thing to end on.

Some Pokémon level really well. I evolved a Eevee into a Flareon and it had 678 CP. I used 3 Candies on it and it shot up to the high 800s.

Yeah, I evolved an extra Eevee just for the exp, but it ended up over 1100 CP (higher than a Vaporeon I'd leveled a bunch). Others will just as easily be a third of that. I think I'm just gonna sit on the Dust until I hit some sort of ceiling.

Argh I can't wait anymore. I have a trustworthy source for the APK. If I install this sucker on my Android phone now, will I be able to use my save when the real deal releases in Europe? Does it update automatically? What are the cons?

Looks like the LTE connections of tmobile and Verizon are why people are getting lockups when catching pokemon. Turn off your LTE connection when playing this.

I've seen some speculation but any confirmation that there's anything special about certain landmarks? It would be very cool if I had a better chance of finding something cool at Independence Hall or the Philly Art Museum or something.

Go for it, your account is server-side so no issues. APKmirror has a legit version and I'm pretty sure once it releases officially in your region it'll show up in your Play Store listing and update fine if/when the devs update the app. After all, the APK is the official version.

This game is amazing. I only started playing for real because I had a bad day and caught pokemon at lunch. Then I found out its so easy to connect to people playing it.

I wish there was a way to turn off the curve ball mechanic... whenever there is a pokemon far away, I have to swipe really hard, which always seems to cause the ball to do a giant curve from one side of the screen to the other, causing me to miss no matter where I aim.

I don't think so. There are probably hundreds of thousands of those landmarks, adding things by hand would probably be unfeasible.

It would be neat though.

How is the game handling time cycles?

I do not want my little niece wanting to catch a rare Pokemon at 9pm and wandering off?

Is there some policy that prevents catching Pokemon at odd hours?

You can catch anything at any time. I've read something about some pokémon appearing more frequently either during day or night. Not sure about that though.

Saw Ivysaur on my nearby list when walking up to my building for work and actually turned around to go find out. Gave it a berry and got a great throw on it and it broke out and ran :(

Source on this? I have project Fi but was on Tmobile when I got a freeze last night. Doesn't it need a data connection to function?
Seriously obsessed with this game, wish I had more time to play. It's for me to be thinking about a game as soon as I wake up but it happened with this. I'm off on Friday so gonna spend a lot of time playing then.

So I clicked on one of my eggs and...

It wasn't even a 10km egg. But brb, going to put my phone in butter...

Is there is CP ceiling at which it becomes safe to spend resources into evolving a pokemon? I, for instance, used up all my pidgey candy into evolving a 90 something CP pidgey only to capture a 120 CP something pidgey later. It's just pidgey so no big deal there but don't want to repeat the same mistake with uncommon pokemon like evee.
The CP bar extends a little each time you level up. The percentage the bar is at stays the same when you evolve it, but the scale of the bart changes.
Basically say a Pidgey's max CP is 100, and pidgeotto's is 1000. If it's at 80 CP as Pidgey and you evolve it it become 800 CP.
At least that's the assumption I've been operating under.
On top of that, it costs the same amount of stardust no based on how far it's gone. Basically when you level up it adds another segment to the bar, and it will cost more for each segment.
The point being, it's not really worth it to power up pokemon then evolve. Save your stardust for single stage pokemon and fully evolved.

You can catch Pokemon whenever, although I've met more Gastly at night (I've only seen a couple during the day), along with a Golbat which I only saw at night (once).

You can maintain a data connection, just turn the LTE off. This is the screen on my phone...

I haven't tried it out personally but it explains why some people are getting a disproportionate amount of lockups vs others.

Finally caught a Dratini. Server errored out on me last week.

I really need to catch some Electric Pokemon or Rock type. As I don't have much good offense against flying and water pokemon yet.

why don't you get more candies when you transfer an evolved pokemon?
This.
It's absurdly that I pumped 62 candies into this pidgeot that's outclassed by one I caught and I only get one candy in return.
It doesn't even make sense as a money sink, because there's no way to purchase candies

Btw, has anyone received the 1hp bug today?
I just realized I did a bunch of battles earlier and I wasn't plagued by this (which usually happens 80-90% of the time).

I'm level 6. Live in a rural area. No PokeStops that work with my commute. Running out of PokeBalls.

Tired of only seeing the same 5 Pokemon everywhere. Anytime a cool shadow appears, I can never find it.
This game is unfortunately not designed for rural areas :-(

Should I be evolving my junk/common Pokemon? Every time I come back from a walk or use incense I just transfer everything I don't want but I feel like I'm missing out on good resource gain or stats or something, I don't know. Are you guys looking for anything other than Combat Power?

Evolving gives EXP

So yes

I do hope they fix it so you get more candies for transferred evolved pokemon. Is a little dumb you only get 1..

Also, I think they need some sort of auto-get Pokeball mode. One that is determined somehow if you are far away from pokestops. Or maybe you get like, say 5, if you haven't been around a pokestop in 24 hours/etc.

Has anyone else noticed the distance tracking on eggs is incredibly inaccurate?

Walked approx 3km today and I'm currently at 1.75km on a 2km egg I put in incubation at the start of the walk.

I really have to wonder if they're going to let us keep all the progress we've made in non "launch" territories yet, because people are going to have a real shit time dealing with these few super high level guys that pretty much own every gym around me.

It's not fun seeing the same username with the top pokemon at every gym. There's pretty much no hope of breaking in outside of dropping some hard cash to power level myself.

I feel like catching all those pidgeys will pay off when you evolve a bunch of them with all the pidgey candy you might have, along with a lucky egg for double xp

yes, the best way think about it is do double the asking value because it's really buggy.
