Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

While I agree it's imbalanced, I've been in lures a few times and didn't notice anything amazing about it?

Lures seem to spawn a Pokemon every 5-7 minutes, it seems.

Incense seems to spawn every 7-10 minutes. In the screenshot posted above a person could do a single loop in 20 minutes and get 10+ Pokemon.

Lures are amazing in theory. Bringing people together, bringing business, etc. But for someone who doesn't have easy access to those areas they are just going to fall further and further behind.

Just had a wonderful experience hanging out with a guy I met for the first time for 4 hours straight just off pokemon.

Only bad thing that happened today was I found a Muk and my game crashed instantly when it appeared on the map. Anyone else had that issue?

Any word on how they'll handle legendary pokemon? Like put some on top of mount everest or some crazy locations?

In the original trailer with everyone charging into Times Square, the girl looks over and a player across the street says "[Trainer Name] Joined" and then "Raid" appears above.

I think it'd be great to have massive gatherings in...i guess cities across the country. Maybe like capitols or larger cities in the state on a certain date. Everyone comes downtown and can battle the "boss" (in this case Mewtwo) and after beating him, everyone automatically gets him..or perhaps it opens it up so you can actually capture him like a standard Pokemon.

They definitely already have the mechanics down for fighting Pokemon (I mean...despite the glitches and such) so it's possible.

Somehow the local gyms are still stocked with 1000+cp Pokémon. Kids must be playing nonstop.
Ugh I was in Strongsville today doing some shopping. RIP to me.

LMAO oh god. Well, looks like Pokemania is back folks.

A Growlithe appeared in my radar after a great morning of pokemon catching. I left my house and walked across the whole neighborhood but never found it :(

However, I found something better

She looked like she was abandoned and I didn't have the heart to leave her there so I took her home :)

God bless you man.

You named her Growlithe right? Don't leave us hanging!

So you went on a Pokédate with a guy and ended up with Muk on you?

Every time a post like this ends with this line, it blows my mind apart. There must be some other people here that have worked in mobile or software in general that understand how off-the-charts nuts that is.

Where are you in the world, dglavimans? :)
I really didnt expect so many people going through holes(or understanding) how to download an APK or going for an alternative app store. It really is... no words.

Im from the Netherlands and yesterday 3 news channels reported it here/gave a good amount of time covering this, and we only rarely cover gaming news except when an new iphone drops.

But you just can't describe it.. People where chatting, having a good time some had some candy and shared it. People walking past and asking what was going on here! The place was kind of perfect cause it has 3 pokestops and you can sit in the middle and cover all 3 of them hahah..

Young, old, girl/boy I saw litterly everyone and socializing with random people there. Found myself to have some really good time there talking with people I never even met about all kinds of things. Some kid put on some music(original Pokemon theme). I really hope Nintendo can get the Go Plus here soon, they have a gold mine.

You always read this kind of posts on Reddit etc and think your town is too small or not gaming minded to have this... Even my town is in, Facebook groups, Whatsapp groups for teams.. this is every game dev/designer dream

So is the whole: "Grab the pokeball if you miss the throw to get it back" thing true or false? It has never worked for me.

I actually just tried it on a Pidgey. Worked! The moment I tapped it, it spawned at the bottom of my screen. It wasn't a wild throw though. One of those pitiful mis-swipes where the pokeball barely reaches the pokemon. Dunno if that has anything to do with the pick-back-up.

Also, here's another fun story of Pokemon Go bringing strangers together in friendship.

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I went around town hitting Pokestops and gyms after work. It was our first time trying gyms, and we kicked butt, then drove around town for another 30 minutes or so, before stopping by the grocery store. We were standing in the aisles and I was checking both our phones for new Pokemon, when another couple walked by and they were like "Y'all playing Pokemon, too?" We laughed and complained about the servers and stuff before saying "Good luck!" And going our separate ways. Later, my girlfriend was like "Funny that we'd run into them again!" I looked over at her. "What?" I asked. "Yeah," She continued. "Remember that first gym we took? The one we lost almost immediately? They were there. They were the ones that took it! How funny that we'd see them again, 40 minutes later!"

I can't believe she just stood there and let me have a conversation with that Instinct Scum.

My 5 km egg hatched into a Grimer. Glad it wasn't a bellsprout. I wonder how I'm going to evolve it. I have no Grimers near by. No eevees showing up either, when I only need two more.

It's really fucked up to see all your pictures of awesome big cities with 1000 Pokestops and lures all over...

This is the best direction to look in in my city and it's just not fun seeing this imbalance >_>

So I'm seeing a lot of talk about leveling up pokemon with good moves. How do I know what a good moveset is and what a bad moveset is? Am I looking for a special move with high power, or fast charge time? Also, how do I even know what the options are?

For instance, I've got a CP 300-something Rhydon with Earthquake. Is that good (seems pretty good), or am I better off evolving one of my Rhyhorns to try for something else?

What is even at all those points?

Parks, playgrounds, buildings and skyscrapers, architecture and architecture details (unique masonry, gargoyles, metalwork, classic styles etc), landmarks, public artwork, sculptures, statues and murals, public seating spaces, plaques, churches, synagogues, embassies, shops, unique stuff at shops (one has a bright 1920s car out front), hotels

I have had 3-4 pokemon appear at once while at lures, or a quick succession of pokemon. Definitely way more than 10 in like 5-10 minutes. It's mostly commons but still you get unusual ones turn up. I actually have to turn off the screen or it feels like an endless parade of pokemon popping up.

I can hit a pokestop in lower manhattan from my desk. It is usually lured all day as are the many other pokestops in a 1-2 block distance. I only get the one poke every five mins or so, not the insane pokeorgy you seem to be speaking of.

You're not competing with the big cities though. The people you compete against are local.

It's balanced because the game is totally local.

The only people who get the shit end of the stick are rural folk. Glad I moved back into the city a month ago. This game would have been awful at my last place on 5 acres with no sidewalks anywhere.

To be fair, even the very densely populated NY suburbs are pretty barren except for parks and commerce areas. It seems that they don't put pokestops in residentail areas because they don't want a ton of ppl showing up at some randos house.

For lures, does your trainer circle have to hit the poke stop icon to reap the benefits, or can it just overlap with the stop's circle to get the effect? If that makes sense.

I still can't get PokeStores to work. Every time I'm at one and clicks on it, it just keeps loading and nothing happens. A little frustrating now.

Stay still and make sure you have a decent connection. It happens to me too, but only if I don't stop walking or if my connection is being wonky

Hmm. Maybe it's because I'm on two nonstop AND the iffy GPS from the tall buildings causes my character wander slightly so that I sometimes hit up to four-five stops.

It's not only the Stops...

It's the whole Pkmn spawn rate.

I can walk for ~15 minutes and not get a single one to spawn.
When I drive to the city I get overwhelmed by stops and Pkmn spawning everywhere.

Ah, but see, this simply isn't true. I'm in a neighboorhood of 50+ houses surrounded by other homes. Probably 1500 people live within a mile of me. Yet, no gyms or PokeStops within 10 miles.

My closest gym is a university. This university has Pokemon with 1200+ CP Pokemon on it because it's a university with students that live there. My second closest gym is a library, which is downtown with a bunch of PokeStops and thus the Pokemon are 1000+ CP.

If there was a gym out here where I live (20 minutes to the university), then you'd have a point. But there aren't gyms out in the middle of nowhere for the people that live out here. We have to go into cities or universities where we don't stand a chance.

my gf gets a pop-up saying made in unity, in case anyone is curious. I don't get it on mine - I assume it's a glitch.

we noticed today that the level variation in monsters is different now that we are both different levels. she's one level higher and sometimes my monsters are higher level, sometimes hers are. but when we were the same level, the monsters were always the same cp

I THINK that it just makes more pokes appear in the area around the pokestop. I don't think you need to be in the circle, as the range at which you can initiate battles is longer than the range to hit a pokestop.

Whatever is doing it... enjoy!!!

I get the wobble a lot too in NYC and I hope it counts towards my eggs!

The balance comes at the soft level cap. Where everyone is going to be catch Pokemon around similar power levels. Gaining trainer levels gets way way harder at one point, making it easier for people to catch up, while still maintaining their advantage.

Man this game is insane. Had my first major get together around the major Gym in my town, couple of lured pokestops around it. And 20 people chatting and catching pokemon... Batshit crazy.

Will go out again tomorrow!

This is the first thing I want changed. I'd love a steady spawn rate everywhere.
