Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

OK, this is taking too long. Still not available on iOS here in France. What are the downsides to downloading it from the store of another country? Trouble with updates? IAPs?

Has anyone lost eggs? I had a 10k egg incubating and was at 9.8/10.0, so I went for a little walk. When I got back the egg was gone, the incubator was usable, and no hatch! I walked 10k for nothing??

ERMAGERD guys look at this Chancey I got last night behind my place, and most importantly the HP!

Hope they work on the servers, lost too many Pokemon while just staring at a Pokeball.

Yeah this is the worst. Found a dratini about an hour ago, got it in a ball, then nothing. Force close the app and restart and it's nowhere to be found. Same thing happened with a Venusaur and Pikachu :/

At least my kid was able to get the two latter 'mons.

Question: I logged into the game from Adnroid and iOS using the same google account. Why aren't the characters synced? one is level 2 with different pokemnos than the other

It really sucks how they've done the whole CP thing. I caught a dratini earlier and I was super excited because I love Dragonite. However, it's absolutely pointless me leveling it because you don't seem to get good CP pokemon until higher levels.

It basically means all of the pokemon I'm capturing at the moment is pointless when it comes to gyms(especially because they're a ridiculously high CP in comparison to me).

yea. it makes trading a lot more pointless too. no point in getting an undesirable version of your fav Pokemon if it can't be leveled up without catching copies of them

I heard you can manually download the APK if you have a samsung galaxy s3.. but then will you never be able to update it?

I've sideloaded apps before that the play store then took over updates for, but it's been years so it may not work that way anymore or for all apps.

APK Mirror is a good place to download apps for sideloading. If you use Pushbullet (which is a great service) you can just subscribe to updates on that page and it'll push a link to your phone when it's time to update the app manually. If not, you could create a free account on something like IFTTT and create a recipe there to send you an email or some other type of notification every time the RSS feed, also on the APK mirror page, updates.

Nothing from what I can tell. I downloaded the iOS version a day early off of the Austrailian store and was able to use my account with the US version when it went up. You might be not able to make in app purchases till it launches in your store region of choice though.

I've heard of it happening to some people but I haven't had it to me. Maybe the servers were messing up at the time of hatch and it failed.

Chansey seems like she'd be kind of overpowered in this. The only stat from the games that matters is HP, so Chansey's downside of being terrible offensively doesn't matter, since your Chansey has really great attacks.

And it still has plenty of room to grow.

Goodness gracious, they're doing long news segments on Pokémon GO on Swedish national television now, and it's not even out here. Release it now, PLEASE!

Yeah, I know, it's not really a good idea right now because of the servers. :(

I caught a Zubat. Is that rare? Little bugger busted out of the first pokeball, even though I held it down for power or whatever.

Also, I stopped by Bestbuy to burn a giftcard and they had a display up front with a big Pokemon sign with portable cell phone chargers on sale. I found that humorous. People were buying them too.

As for the server issues, I got screwed out of a Psyduck earlier. x.x

I thought as you leveled your Pokemon can potentially get stronger with you? For instance is my friend catches a Vulpix while he's level 15 at 309 CP, and I catch the same Vulpix but it's 195 CP because I'm level 11, when I get to level 15 my Vuplix can be just as strong as his with just as much potential right?

The fuck are you catching pokemon, Jurassic Park?

Shit man, i'm level 12 and i've never caught something above 300-400CP.

Woops, it was only CP 400. My b. But the park I went to had like 4-5 lures and I dropped an incense as well. It was nuts. Most of the Pokémon I caught last night were around 2-300 CP.

Now I just need to find some rural gyms instead of these 1K gyms...

Well that's rather disappointing: One of my eggs hatched, my medal count increased, my incubator has one less use but I never got the pokemon..

I find it stupid that it glitches only on the rare and powerful stuff and never on the common "Pidgterpieedlettatta" I meet every time.

Be sure to check the Pokemon you caught, i was extremely mad few minutes ago because the game glitched when i was catching a Seadra, to my surpise when i rebooted the app i actually did caught it

I first noticed a jump when I hit level 5, and my pokemon never increased in power. Not hit 10 yet, so can't comment on that.

I thought you just stick with the low power, and your best option is to transfer it to get the candy for when you capture the pokemon again at a higher level.

no. different levels have different cp variations in the wild, but they dont level up with you. frequently higher levels will actually find weaker Pokemon than a lower level

Because of the shit servers, I got screwed out of a Pidgeot.

Not to mention that thing kept getting farther away the more I threw Poke-Balls at it. What the hell kinda bug is that?

Yes, any time I've frozen on a capture, I let the app sit for a few minutes (The Pokeball save icon still pops up every once in a while) and usually when I restart I did catch it.

If you get the frozen Pokeball glitch I suggest waiting a bit (maybe like 10 seconds). I've gotten the glitch quite a bit but after waiting and then restarting the app, it shows that I actually caught it. I dont know if its the same for you guys

Figured out the dodge timing. Steamrolling through gyms with one pokemon lol. I think they need to fix this because it's too easy once you know the timing, although it takes a long time.

Do you think this was done to get ready for the trading aspect? Maybe for safety reasons they don't want people you trade with to know exactly the area you caught them at. Before it showed all the tiny roads around my apartment and people could figure out where I live based on that.

Maybe, but it would make more sense to show the zoomed out map after you actually trade it to someone. If it's your own Pokemon it doesn't make sense to hide it.

I know that Pokemon don't actually level with you, but their potential power does. So if I wanted to power up that Vulpix I got at level 11 I used in the example once I get to level 15, I should he able to get it as strong as any other level 15 trainer's Vulpix right?

Sorry if I'm not understanding correctly. At work so not much time for GAF. I do know evolving Pokemon that have a higher CP bar is better because they keep that progress when they evolve.

well shit. Went to my town center for lunch becuase I'd heard it was full of stuffs, passed the park I went to last week (when the servers didn't let me get anything). There wasn't anyone in it then, and I'd never seen anyone in it before at all actually. There was a lure at the entrance and the gazebo in the back. People strolling and biking around despite the brutal heat. Talked to the guy who dropped the second lure, seemed like an awesome dude. Said Bayside in Miami was going nuts last night. Then I'm wandering around the town center and the statue in front of the HQ building (I work in another building a few miles away) of my company is a gym! Luckily it's already Mystic or I'd have had to be late getting back from lunch. Can't have any other teams owning that shiz.

I know people are still having severe issues and I likely will too later tonight, probably just Jynxed it, but I have to say that over the course of this hour the servers/performance were preeeeetty solid. The app honestly feels great when everything's smooth, catching multiple mons per minute and popping in and out of stops. Client-side it's actually a lot more responsive and well-designed than the server experience/reviews make it out to be.

On the way back to my car this little guy hatched for me:
Hadn't even seen one yet so I didn't know when I'd ever get one. Starter collection hype!

Annnnd back to work. I fucking love this game :X

Is it a good idea to combo a incense with a lucky egg ?

Would make sense, also combining it with other activities which give xp, like evolving any pokemon. Weedle and Pidgy are two good ones to evolve just because they only cost 12 candy and you capture loads of them so you're not really wasting candy by evolving them unlike rarer pokemon.

Can also combine it with a lure if you have one, or happen to be in a location where there is a lot around.

I thought that was how it worked too at first, but when I tried to level up some of my lowbie pokemon I got pitiful amounts of CP. WHen I compared them to some of the higher CP stuff other people caught it just didn't seem to align.

I'm not sure.

enlighten us?

Okay I admit I was intentionally vague to get someone to ask.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAvNoTe1xjg (go to 12:50)

Right after 12:50, see when Pidgeotto attacks the borders of the screen go yellow? At that point you have like 0.3 to 0.5 sec to dodge, and you'll take zero damage. If you battle the same gym several times in a row and consequently the same pokemon, you'll be able to learn the timings of both normal and special attacks (special attacks often have a bit of a delay from the text appearing to the yellow flash).

Use the pattern of dodge -> attack -> dodge repeat or as many attacks as you can sneak in, because remember you can't dodge while you're attacking. Depends on which pokemon you have out and who you're facing. For example my hypno can only ever attack once between dodges, while my arcanine vs a hypno could just barely get three attacks in.

If you do this correctly you should take little or zero damage through a gym. Today I beat a level 6 gym with CP ranging from 400 to 1200 with my 800 hypno without ever using another pokemon.

I just found out people are putting their phones on Roombas while it runs to incubate eggs. I'm definitely doing that today. I was going to run the thing anyway.

Yeah happened to me exactly like yours. Almost near hatching and suddenly gone with an empty incubator.

Weird bug. It's definitely not common.

I haven't looked in to the dodging much at all (I guess I had bad timing and got hit a lot, so I gave up on it), I just tanked the damage and burned down the opponent. I can already power through gyms pretty easily, but dodging might save me some potions, even if it does take longer. I'll give it a try!

On another note, there is a gym that is hotly contested between Valor and Instinct. I just popped over there, took it over, and put a CP 55 Magikarp in there for maximum disrespect. 1 hour later and he's still going strong!

Yeah, I think they balance her by making her impossible to catch on one end, but on the other you can't power her up anymore because you'll probably never catch another one and get candy.

Haha I already planned that, I have a army of these and 180 / 120 beedle / pidgey candies.

Tho I don't know If I should waste my lure just now :s

It will appear in your Pokemon list. sometimes eggs bug out and the animation doesn't play, but you still get the Pokemon.

I still don't know how to time a perfect ball throw. Is it when the moving circle's in the center of the bigger one? Or when it's smallest? Or when it's biggest?
