Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Anybody getting discouraged already by this game? It doesn't take skill to play it, so it's basically just a giant grindfest. There's no way I can compete with college students on summer break or people who literally live on top of gyms or pokestops =/

You could always drive/walk around and help bolster up team gyms.

I have a couple questions.

I'm running this on an Android phone. Galaxy S5. I have my GPS on, but any time I have the app open I have a message saying "Cannot locate GPS signal" (or something like that) on a red bar at the top of the screen at all times. But the GPS is definitely working because the app knows where I am and it follows me around. Is this causing a glitch? Because I have yet to see a single pokemon around my house, around my office, or on the 3 mile route between my dentist and my office...

Maybe they are way more sparse than I've been lead to believe, but the way everyone is talking on facebook it seems like they're everywhere. Is this the case for anyone else?

Also, how do I find pokecenters? Or whatever the place you get pokeballs is called.

You definitely should have seen a Pokemon by now. In location settings, set the mode to "High accuracy". Turn location on and off and check you actually have GPS working (in Maps or something). PokeStops look like floating blue cubes and then turn into a Pokeball type symbol when you're close enough to activate them.

Just whipped this edit up. Pokemon Go teams in a nutshell.

Does logging in sometimes have kind of an Incense effect?
Because I swear sometimes closing the app and opening it makes pokemon spawn that weren't there earlier

It can be a good strategy if you've been getting hardly any hits as it does potentially refresh the area roster for you. I also recommend it after driving distances, as sometimes Pokéstops don't load properly and you could still have a Pokémon from 10 miles back still on your radar you won't have a chance at finding.

Just wasted 20+ Pokeballs on a Golbat off all things.
It wasn't even that high in CP (80+) and I'm level 8.
It seemed I did hit alot but the balls kept falling through him, the jumping doesn't help.

Will razberries stop his jumping or ?

Maybe not incense, but I think it lets you see things that maybe where there a while ago and despawned some time before you logged in.

I've definitely noticed something similar.

I managed to take over and hold 4 gyms simultaneously! I popped my shield as soon as I took that fourth gym. Glad I did because soon after, one of them fell.

The best time to take gyms is early in the morning. Take as many as you can before the Pokemon hunters wake up, then pop your shield for maximum effect.

No. They just seem to be harder to hit in general. I have trouble with Zubats and Golbats. Other flying pokemon are much more manageable to me.

Pokemon seem to spawn at my exact location on the hour, every hour (and up to like 10-15 minutes after that). My partner found the same thing at his work so it's not just my location. I think it's designed that way so you still find Pokemon occasionally even if you're not on the move.

Today I helped swing a nearby gym to Mystic and then contributed a defender and a couple levels worth of prestige -- now it's looking like a pretty solid hold for us at least for the time being.

My pokemon is the lowest one on the totem pole, but still. Feels goodman.

Found a pair of teenagers walking around my first few minutes out hunting here in a pretty remote area of Sweden, where the game isn't even officially available. Later I saw a bunch of twenty-something guys hanging out in the town park, most likely competing for the gym there.

Also took a dive on a grass trail trying to find a mon in some tall grass.

That's wild stuff about the dodging, I didn't even notice the yellow flash. I will have to practice it.

Nice

I've got a great loop of 5 I could do early in the morning when I get a bit stronger.

Unless you plan on taking any more today in the next couple hour, grab your reward from the shop screen!

Yep. I take the gyms I want/can in the morning. Was able to take 2 on my way in to work and then popped the shield. It being a 21 hour refresher works out greatly.

WTF... Some random kid walked into our offices and asked the receptionist if he could collect Pokemon around our office and she said "yes."

He's just walking in and out of people's offices... shouting "Yes!" and "Yeah! A Pokemon!" Every now and again while employees are trying to program our software products...

I feel like taking over a gym should have a cooldown before the next attack, you can just whail back and forth until the first person runs out of revives and potions.

Yep. Or a better active defense system. Attackers do way more damage than you can possibly hope to heal with training. I wish training gave more prestige while the gym is under attack or something.

Does anyone have any idea on the team popularity?

I chose team yellow, because I thought instinct sounded cool, but it seems my kid and his friends all picked red and the downtown area I played in yesterday was dominated by blue. Did I fuck up with my team pick?

That is so adorable.

I think I had the same problem as you, jellycracker. Go to Android Settings -> Developer Mode -> Allow Mock Location and turn it off. If developer mode isn't visible you need to go to Settings -> Device Info -> Build Number and tap it seven times.

I've had the same problem and Pokemon Go absolutely WON'T work as long as that setting is turned on.

He's actually a spy using Pokemon GO as an excuse to infiltrate your company.

Instinct is definitely least popular, but I'm glad for that because it means when I find another Instinct player on the street it's actually meaningful. Sucks for holding gyms for long periods of time. Otherwise doesn't really matter.

When was the last time a Nintendo game hit zeitgeist level exposure like this? People completely far removed from video games are talking about the app .

Hoping to God Nintendo fosters this attention and keeps the momentum going in their favor. Would hate to see this game become a fad especially if they start updating the game really infrequently. DON'T FUCK THIS UP N

I've completely given up on trying to catch Zubats, they waste too many Pokéballs and aren't worth the effort.

Niantic did mention that they'd like to get into bi-weekly updates. Not going to be a major update every time, but that's a nice release schedule.

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I almost hit a parked car in my neighborhood yesterday. Threw my phone in the backseat after that and cussed myself out. Be safe folks.

I did the same yesterday, had a close call with a pushed car after hitting a pokestop. Didn't put the phone down right away... that'll teach me...

Am I the only person that loves seeing their friends get pissed off seeing tweets or facebook post about the game? Anytime I see that, right away I put up a few pictures or talk about it on my timeline. Ha ha. Just to piss them off more.

I love how people are hating on the game.
