Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

you can't blame the company. Maybe the parents should not give phones or tablets to kids. maybe the parents should not allow them to play the game. If a kid gets cut with a knife, you don't blame the company. If a kid gets choked on a food, you don;t blame the hot dog company. I can spend the whole day mentioning similar cases where the company is not liable at all.

Those aren't really similar cases, though. This is a game that is designed for people to be walking outside, staring at their phone, which would obviously mean they aren't as aware of their surroundings. And the company KNOWS this - hence the warning when you start the game. Again, I've always said that people should be responsible for their actions, but there have been thousands of lawsuits against companies for farrrrrrrrrrrr less. It's only a matter of time, honestly.

I guess I'm confused by what you mean here. Are you thinking people will sue and win?

Have the developers of basic texting apps been successfully sued for deaths resulting from people getting hit by a car while texting as a pedestrian or while texting and driving?

Again, texting apps aren't made to be used while outside and walking around. Not really the same. I don't know if they will win in court or not, but I think the lawsuits are inevitable. Given the number of people playing, accidents are almost guaranteed to happen, and when kids are injured, people sue and blame everyone else.

Ha yeah just in case I've misled anyone by only posting interesting catches... Pidgeys, Rattatas and Weedles are everywhere, I have been able to fill my screen with them alone in the pokemon inventory multiple times.

Thing is I don't mind them because evolving them is great XP. My only wish UX-wise in this regard is a multiple-select for transferring to Willow.

Ok Maybe I mind the Rattatas.

Went to the waterfront at like 9pm and there was 100+ people there and a bunch of lures (peaked at 13 from what I saw).

Caught a ton of Magnemites and Paras, a couple Abra, Ponyta and Gastly, and a bunch of others.

Then, just before I was about to leave, an Exeggutor popped up on my near Pokemon list, so me and my friend scrambled to find it and my one was at over 600 CP, so I levelled it a little and used it to capture the gym right next to my house lol.

Good first day for me on Pokemon Go :p

So in the UK and played a bit. There is a gym and a pokestop not too far from my house, up a little path to a park and then another gym and 2 pokestops by the shops. So that's kinda nice. Haven't gone into town with it yet but there should be a decent amount there. So far I'm only lvl3 and have 2 Pidgey, 2 Rattata, 1 Zubat, 1 Spearow, 1 Geodude and started with Pikachu.

Someone close by has an Electabuzz and Aerodactyl as they were on the gym and I've seen a Horsea and Koffing with 3 footprints so who knows where they are.

It's starting to take way too many balls to catch them as I level up. They break out of everything, or I miss so much more :\ I am even feeding the fuckers some fruit. TAKE YOUR FRUIT AND BE DOCILE

Downtown Austin was LIT with Pokestops and lures last night. Every block practically had two stops and several Pokemon. Caught a Squirtle, Koffing, Clefairy, Vulpix, Growlithe, Mankey, Likitung and Rhyhorn. Feels good man.

This game is so much fun.Just hit level 10 and haven't battled once. lol

Rattata and Zubat really need nerfing down to the 12 candy level.

Nowthat, after waiting for a week for GO to be out in the UK I can't play it because I don't know my password, and I don't want to link my Google account......... 😭

anybody can sue anybody in this country, the matter is what is gonna happen. I really doubt they would win though

I'm out of Poke-Balls now. Great :\

Only reason I'm out is because I keep missing and the game counts a complete whiff as losing a Ball. I really hate that design choice.

After a couple of days I think I'm done with this game. The levelling is far too slow and having the servers die when you just popped incense or are really far from your house just kills your enthusiasm completely. My town is fairly small and has few Pokestops near my house but all of the gyms seem to have been taken over by what I can only summise are cheaters, the game only came out this morning (UK) and for the last two days there have been level 20s holding all the fucking gyms.
People have been able to play since the US release, mate.

Game is not out here and there are first Pokemon GO meetings this week. People are getting a bit crazy about it

It's definitely getting dangerous in my neighborhood. I don't know about your areas but here a lot of the pokestops and gyms are at intersections instead of off the road a bit and near the particular establishment. For example a pokestop at the park isn't inside the park, it's at the park sign on the corner where you turn into the park. I was sitting under a pavillion playing the game and witnessed multiple people breaking hard to swipe that stop before they passed it and others just flat out stopped in the middle of the street. If I dropped a lure there I could really cause some bedlam.

It's like that everywhere around here.

Someone mentioned this to us last night, that the box would flash green for them when facing the right direction of a selected pokemon, but after testing it for a while with selecting several diff ones it didn't actually do anything for us. The little "pulse" just seems to indicate that the list has updated.
I just caught ab hunter for using the pulse and the list didn't change

Cant login anymore for some reason...

Says failed to login.

If I hit retry or try a different account the game freezes with a signout popup.

Suggestions??

Got an egg this morning on my morning run. I know I ran over 2 miles with the egg in an incubator. The game only registered .6km (.37 miles). Is this a known issue? Why didn't it register more?

I had the game open on my phone the entire time. I was probably running ~8mph.

Why not? The google permissions are apparently fixed with the 1.0.2 update.

It's out in the UK and on all my family's phones and devices. Now it begins.
Right outside my house is a gym... Yay...

But there is a Pokestop under a minute away. I like my set up.

Counting is off, by a lot sometimes.

Put 2x5KM eggs on at the same time one finished and other was 3.3 >.>

Going to go to nearly all of central and downtown Austin this weekend with friends. Hopefully it's not full of pidgeys and ratatats like neighborhood is

Yay got an egg. 2 KM egg boooo.

Still, I'm just a lvl 5 guy now and I'm drowning in Weedle's, Pidgey's and Ratata's. Did catch a Goldeen just now.

Interesting, does this "pulse" look any different from when it pulses without selecting a pokemon to track?

I don't know what to tell you but my fiancee and I tested it for about an hour last night and found no correlation between the pulse and which pokemon we were actively tracking. The pulse would occur while facing different directions with the same pokemon selected.

Even with nothing selected we would get the pulse and every time I checked the list after a pulse it had changed in some way whether it was the order, one leaving or a new one showing up.

I've now lost 15 pokeballs because the game just fucking freezes as I catch an electabuzz.

I close the app and reopen, no electabuzz but the game is nice enough to remember the pokeballs I threw trying to catch it.

Has happened 4 times in a row now. Freezes at the same point every time. WHAT THE FUCK

Yeah I know. It's crazy...

Saying that, I poped an incense at my house I caught like 5 different pokemons (one of which was Squirtle). A couple minutes ago I opened the app again and got a CP131 Golbat.

Now I only need to get to lvl. 5 to see how strong the pokemons in the gyms around me are.

Anyone else randomly find out that having the game in compass mode that the selected pokemon on the bottom right pulses when facing the right directions?

Omg!!! I just tried this and can confirm it works!!!!! It points you in the direction of the Pokemon! This is and INCREDIBLE portip!! THANK YOU SIR!!!!

Or a Nintendo club one (that's what I did).

Yup yup. Keeps all your stuff private (if you're not comfortable linking them), and if there's ever a breach in the future, safe~

Question: Are Jynxs considered rare? I saw them on that egg chart in the 10km section.

This happened a ton to me today too. Lost various lower monsters plus a Squirtle and a Slowpoke. :(

How the heck did Gafs didn't noticed Niantic previous game ? It was kinda huge too from the video.

Ingress? GAF had threads on it. Not nearly as many as this though
I played Ingress for a couple of months and even submitted a couple of nodes. I liked it, it was fun and very creative, and the sensation of "hey is that person playing too maybe?" that was the best thing about it has returned on a much larger scale here. I never actually convered with any other players in person, but it was still cool.

Thing is that it was all sort of a dry, paranoia-fueled sci-fi thing. There wasn't a lot of fun or heart, or personal connection to your actions, which is something the Pokemon concept really nails. It's a good fit.

I think it sounds like they have to enable the speed limit functionality for captures and stops, as much as it would be a pain for passengers.

Unless your phone accidentally locked (system timeout set maybe?), unfortunately you may have just lost connection to the servers at some point :(

Not at all. I started playing 7 hours ago and caught like 20 so far.

Same here, I am at the point where I leave a lot of fights just because the 10 great balls it will take to catch that 300 CP pidgey are just not worth it... I am nostalgic of the first days already :D

Let's see what pokemon are around the house today...

similar to me, except pidgeys, and i cant catch anything at home :'(

Gives you 1 candy for that type of Pokemon.
Ah thanks.

So catching the same type of pokemon nets you more candy, so if I transfer it and get the 1 candy, I don't actually lose the candy I gained from when I caught it, right?

Otherwords, there is no reason to hold onto the identical pkm?

What!?!?!?! We tested this last night and it didn't do anything... can you screenshot this in action? Is it a constant pulse when facing the correct direction?
