Pokémon Go |OT| As in "Go Outside"

Here too. I have 3 Vaporeons 2 Flareons and... yeah, just those :(

Why do you allude me Jolteon?
Ah damn, I was hoping if you had two the next evolution would be the missing one not a double... Guess I got lucky getting Vaporeon and Flareon on my first 2

If you are lucky, you may have caught it.
When mine freezes on a catch, I let it sit and 'think' a minute before I quit the app just in case

Maybe this helps some people.
If anyone disagrees, just tell me. But I'm pretty sure that's how it works.

edit:

Yes, arcs will shrink when you level up

Just so I'm understanding this correctly.

If you're lvl ##. And you power up a pokemon so their arch is full for their CP. As you gain levels: ##+1, +2, etc. The arch % will decrease allowing you to power up the Pokemon more.

Correct. This also means that you can catch stronger pokemon when you reach higher levels, since pokemon you encounter in the wild can have CP levels from anywhere on the meter.

The servers have been great for me, but they have got to fix this bug that freezes the game when you catch a Pokemon. Shit's infuriating, lost a Bulbasaur to it.

So let's say I max out Ghastly's power (full arch). Then I get a Trainer Level Up.

Does Ghastly's arch "extend"? Can I now power him up further? Or is my Ghastly's max power locked to the level that I caught him at?

EDIT: Edit answered my question. Awesome!

So the only thing that really matters when determining which Pokemon to power up / evolve are:
1. How high is its power? Lower power isn't bad, but higher power means that the Pokemon will be less of a resource hog.
2. What moves does it have? (though these change on leveling up)

Does that seem right?

You can power it up further, yes.

I have maxed my Pidgeot's arch many times, and when I level up, I can do it again.

Powering up weak ones into powerful ones is a waste of time and candy and star dust, far better off catching a new one as it will be stronger cause of your new higher level. I only power up my super high guys to give me a slight edge in gyms. But if you have like. A CP 10 pidgey... Nah just catch a 100+ one instead.

Most times when the app freezes while I'm trying to catch a Pokemon, I either end up with it caught when I restart the app, or the Pokemon respawns a minute later if I didn't.

I gave it some time, exited the app, and rebooted. No Dratini. Sad boys.
Hope that's fixed eventually, it's such a shitty thing to happen.

Yeah, it really sucks. If that doesn't work, if you're in the same area where you originally saw it, once you load back up, hopefully it's still there! If not, check your journal to see if it fled.

Does Incense make Pokemon appear in my house?

Yes. Incense will make Pokemon appear at your feet every 5 minutes or so.

Lost some pokeballs and a Mankey. Yay servers.

If it's an incense one it doesn't come back though and you just waste a shot of a pokemon for 5mins until the soft timer is up.

Is it just a coincidence that Hitmonchans, Hitmonlees, and Machops consistently show up at my local 24 Hour Fitness gym? The algorithm can't be that precise.

Moves don't change on levelling up, they change on evolving. Right now, minmax play says: until level 20, catch only Pidgey, Rattata, Weedle, and Pokemon that are either rather rare or that you haven't caught up til now, and use Lucky Egg boosts and evolving the Pidgey/Caterpie/Weedle to help speed the process up. Then, once on level 20, evolve stuff first prioritizing Pokemon that already have a high CP until you find one that has a good moveset, then power up.

A good moveset is: fast move and charge move are of the same type, and neither are Normal-type'd because that isn't SE against anything. 2-bar charge moves are probably best, 1- and 3- bar charge moves are also good. 4- and 5-bar charge moves are usually not worth it.

The only exception is Pokemon hatched from eggs, which have a higher CP cap than caught Pokemon. Even if they hatch at low CPs, they can sometimes be worth training up nonetheless. I've seen people say that this also applies to your starter (the higher CP cap), but I can't personally confirm this (because I have never caught another Charmander to test...).

I have not been able to logon into the game since Tuesday with my pokemon trainer account. I either get password incorrect and they lick my account for 15mins or a cannot verify message. Anyone else?

Sorta driving me mad but I tell myself its just a game.

I rinsed people for playing this game....

now I am playing this game....

One of the Pokestops is right next to my office. So as I sit here, I just get infinite pokeballs, eggs and falafels. Win!

Went out for a walk, had a weird experience. I've gone for walks around this neighborhood plenty of times but no one's ever stopped to talk to me. Had someone roll down their window and ask "Pokemon GO?" with a smile on their face. It was some friend I hadn't seen since High School. Then there was another car that did the same but it was 2 random teens that I didn't know just tell me "There's a Pikachu around here". (I found it, thanks random strangers)

Like lol, is it that obvious?

Also had a Gastly and Pidgeot turn up on my nearby Pokemon but I couldn't find em v.v

Has anyone figured out why some people get the Pokémon when the pokeball freezes and some don't? I have no idea if it matters but I always let the server symbol stop flashing before a hard reset and I have never lost a Pokémon to the glitch. Maybe it's just luck but I don't even care when the glitch happens anymore (outside of needing to wait a minute for everything to reset).

Lol yeah, some lady passed by us walking downtown last night and was like "gotta catch 'em all, amirit?"

I think walking around looking at your phone gives it away

If they technically caught the pokemon, it's caught.
If it potentially got out, it's not caught. pretty simple.

Approached by a couple cops in a dark alley. It wasn't "stop loitering" or "what are you doing here?" No, they just wanted to know if we were on team Instinct. They wandered sadly away as we took their gym. Team Valor for life, bitches.

If you updated to 1.01 (if you are on iOS), it reported to have problems with PTC login. They released another patch yesterday (1.02) that fixes this issue. Try updating it to latest patch and see if your login works!

You can definitely tell when someone's playing versus just texting or anything like that, haha.

In my experience, it's definitely server problems. Some people just run into the problem more than others. The best way to deal with it, however, is the way you do. Give it some time to finish thinking, then restart and hope for the best. It doesn't always work, but it's better than jumping the gun.

When the ball hits, it's already calculated whether you've got it or not. If you got it then it doesn't matter it froze. Sadly if it broke free you're out of luck, as the freeze means you can't try again.

If you see someone staring at their phone out in the street, you can probably safely assume that they are searching for pokemon for at least another week or two.

It's sadly the truth. I live in a smaller metropolitan city of about 100k and I have to drive to the park if I want a good concentration of pokestops and gyms. I've still had a ton of fun just walking around my neighborhood catching pokemon but I regularly run out of pokeball.

To get the most out of this game, you really need to live in a big city.

Its an unfortunate and massive design flaw, for a game that is designed to make you walk - about a series where the philosophy is that Pokémon live out in the wild in the tall grass, that if you're not in a major metropolitan area you're basically getting fuck all.

Newcastle upon Tyne city centre? Poké central.

Any of the surrounding (yet still highly populated) suburbs? Maybe a pidgey every 5 minutes of walking, sparsely situated pokéstops.

If they technically caught the pokemon, it's caught.
If it potentially got out, it's not caught. pretty simple.

I guess that makes sense but I'm at level 15 now and regularly have very low level Pokémon escape and still never lost even less common ones. I guess I've just been lucky.

Lost out on a Pikachu, Ponyta and a Tentacruel thanks to the glitch! Gutted! Is there any reasoning behind where rare pokemon spawn? We seem to have found a good spot but just wondered if there's anywhere else worth looking.

So i'm not sure if this has been asked, but im curious about something. I dowloaded the apk for the app through a thread on gaf a week ago, but how do i update the app?

Haha thats jokes.

How this would work around my ends:

* Go outside

* Stranger: "Pokemon Go?"

* Me: Yeah!

* Stranger: Give me your phone bitch!

* Phone gets jacked

* Run home crying

* Post on Gaf
