Confirmed weather spawns is going to be gold for the media

pretty cool easter egg for the franchise. this and running away from the starters to get pikachu are like part of gaming lore now.

Depending on how they dripfeed new content, I think this thing could last a lot longer than people give it credit for. Even if it only lives a single year as a phenomenon, that'd be longer than the staying power of most $60 games.

Unless it was a fluke. Haven't had a thunderstorm since but it's mostly pidgeys, weedles, rattatas and the occasional oddish. As soon as a thunderstorm hit, there were Pikachus in the apartment, at the park, etc. Hopefully someone else can confirm too. Seemed logical to me so I didn't find it surprising.

I want to believe! But we got hit with a bad thunderstorm storm a day or two ago and I've still not seen a single Pikachu around here, not even in a gym.

Spent 7 hours today looking for stuff. Found nothing :/ Aside from that, the game is really starting to annoy me. If I knew leveling up would result in impossible-to-catch pidgeys and rattata, maybe I wouldn't have reached so high. I'm also so sick of throwing curve balls when I swipe straight up. Did I curve you? No, so stop curving you stupid pokeball :| Also sick of pokemon just running away from me. K /rant

I think there's a randomized wind mechanic. I seem to get Poke Balls that will look like it got hit by a gust of wind especially Great Balls and after using Razz Berries. If you learn to throw curved balls accurately, you'll never experience this.

y'all should post your trainer level anytime you show your pokes, because otherwise I have no context. I'm level 14 and my highest dude is 850ish after pumping with lots of stardust

Yes. This. I am also 14, but my highest CP is 500-something, without powering it up at all.

I can't help but feel a pang of regret every time I evolve, even after trying to choose the best candidate Pokemon.

I think it's a random power some Pokémon use. Like batting the ball away or jumping.

Wait. That wind thing is true? Wow. I also try and throw curved balls, but for Pokemon really far away, I can't seem to curve it and get the distance needed.

I think it's both, actually. Some Pokemon will hit the ball away or attack. When you throw the ball during their attack cycle, it won't land. But other times, I'll throw the ball straight upward and it'll suddenly just fly left or right with the Pokemon just sitting there doing nothing.

Pretty sure it is. It's the reason why I started practicing curve balls. I also noticed it happens a shit ton more often when I'm using a Razz Berry or using a great ball, or both together.

So maybe this is local Team Valor's plan for this gym?

They left it unoccupied for awhile after Team Instinct lost, then a CP 10 Ekans pops in...but now the gym is level 2. Are they trying to work the system, putting a low level, beating it easily when sparring, thus increasing the gym level quickly?

Its probably a pretty silly point to make, but I think they absolutely nailed the Pokemon design in this game, the coloring, shading and use of textures is fantastic I think.

Even despite the rain today in Brisbane, there were I'd say at least 2,000 people playing Pokemon at the South Bank precinct alone throughout the afternoon while I was there.

Random cafe goers were asking adjacent Pokemon trainers about what they were doing and how to catch Pokemon.

I've personally walked over 20km in the past 2 days. Meanwhile, anyone else's feet now have blisters on them?

Not silly at all! I've been meaning to say something similar to this here. I know exactly what you mean - the the animations and subtle use of shading really nail the concept of a cartoon existing in the real world.

walked around downtown disney tonight for a few hours. over half the people there were on their phones playing while everyone else was a family trying to leave (and of those people, many were with infants what the fuck the infant isn't going to remember disneyland).

caught an electrobuzz and a jolteon. also hatched a porygon and a ponyta that i evolved into a rapidash that i named 'horse egg'

my brother-in-law has devised a 5-minute walk path that takes him through 3-4 centers that are recharged by the time he makes one round. people at work are taking longer than usual breaks to walk around.

it won't last, but i think it's pretty great.

Actually went into my city's park and found a spot where there were 4 Pokestops in range :D. Stood there for quite a while to stock up on Pokeballs. Good to go hunting again now, just hope the nearby tracking thing gets fixed when I next go for a walk.

Just came back from our "Pokemon GOthering" in Grand Rapids and it was packed:

People were ordering pizzas and having them sent to the corners of streets and then sharing them with anyone nearby with the same team color.

Lures everywhere:

The church up the street from here was almost as packed but had better spawns:

Picked up a Geodude, then a 1028 CP Golem (my highest wild monster yet). A Goldeen then a Seaking. My first Electebuzz. two Rhyhorns, two Kinglers, two Growliths, three machops, Magnemite, Onix, a Wartortle and a flutter of clefairies.

Damn that looks amazing.

Downtown in my town is an actual pokemon city. There are kids, teens, adults, parents playing, there are trainerskids on bikes with backpacks zooming around town, there are signs outside stores advertising lures.

I saw some mom with her husband, baby in a stroller and two more young kids stopping her whole family.

I also like the people who normally sit around outside chatting up whoever comes by. Now they have a huge audience. They're actual real life NPCs.

Gotta catch em all.

"9 am, i can go to the gym nearby, i' m sure i won't experience problems at this time of the day!"

"unable to find GPS"
"kicked out of the gym 20 times in a row for no reason"
"lag like there's no tomorrow"
"next fight : 1300 CP Pidgeot. Trainer : Lvl 21"
"zubat appears"

Sigh.

Damn that looks amazing.
That was only one half of the street. Imgur cut off the other side of the street where there was a club and then Pokemon players standing right outside next to the bouncer. And that was at 11 PM, too.

Lots of random people were talking to each other at our cities Pokemon gathering. There was some underage kids hanging out at the church steps (where there are 4 PokeStops at each street corner) and there were two women talking to them and making sure they had a chaperone so that they were safe. It was cute.

Lots of people selling faction buttons, neon sticks that you could wear to show off your team color, and just absolutely jam-packed sidewalks with people hunting together or yelling across the street "Cubone is over in that parking lot!" To which a group of ~30 people would all rush over to catch it.

Completely surreal, and this is coming from someone who's never played Pokemon prior to GO.

I know they changed the map so it's more zoomed out and less.....useful, but for the past day or so I'm not seeing a map at all on both my devices and my partners.

Is this how it is for everyone?

This was the Golem that nearly escaped. Everyone freaked out and yelled about it.

And I didn't realize how bad the "Nearby" list was borked in this 0.29.2. I mean, I heard it was "more inaccurate," but I didn't think it was this bad:

I also caught an Electabuzz that I was tracking but it was listed in the 2nd row, 3rd column but then it spawned right in front of me.

That's really inaccurate.

Yes, I believe the two running theories are 1) privacy concerns if the screenshots are shared or when trading is implemented (it might transfer the location of that monsters capture too, and potentially the player's home location) and 2) preventing players from making their own spawn maps to game the system.

They really need to fix the distance bug. Got a Magmar nearby but never managed to find him :( He was first of the list too but after going around for 20 minutes I gave up

I'm really hoping this game stays as popular as it is now, though I know it won't be the case.

Right now, it's perfectly safe to take a long stroll down our downtown's Riverwalk area at 3 in the morning because there's hundreds of people out playing Pokémon.

I'll miss these times when that's no longer possible. :-(

Silicon Valley is now Pokemon Valley. So many areas on my drive across San Jose full of people. I intentionally took backstreets instead of the freeway after dropping off a friend just to take a look. Didn't stop anywhere expect by my house, but plan to explore soon with some friends.
