Edit; you know what was fun? Yesterday on friday night I went out in the club as usual. People where playing pokemon go lol including the girl i am interested in. Well the two girls im interested in actually haha. They even played the pokemon theme song in the club.
the hype is insane. Earlier this week we organised a pokemon go get together. I work for a website, gamer.nl, a big dutch gaming website. So we made a facebook event for a meet up on the market in a city called haarlem. The marked was filled with people, 500 folks at any given moment. It was insane.

I know, that's why I said squeeze. Slow traffic, coming to a stop, accelerating, etc. my phone isn't doing anything so might as well waste some battery and data getting my eggs .3 km of distance.

I downloaded the APK a week ago and just the other day deleted it and downloaded the UK version when it released. It was all there.
Will be fine. I was playing the US app in Indonesia and switched to the Dutch version earlier today before the servers crapped out and saves and everything carried over just fine.
Most of these accounts are fan made.
Niantics can't even post simple PR on their official tweeter or Facebook beside the launch in X countries atm xD

It does. It tracks everything for me up until around 30 mph. Went on a 30 min drive the other day to hit up pokestops in a small town I work in, I hatched two 5KM eggs I started that day.

Well, I was thinking specifically about the launch of LK and that whole month of fun we had in Naxx before they fixed their issues. Nothing better than downing a boss and the server kicking you out of the game. Good times.
But yeah, it was a mess before too.
Yep, near Liverpool, and not too far from St Helens which I assume will be quite populated with Pokestops too - but anywhere outside there it seems really sparse.
Hopefully something they improve when the servers are sorted, because they'll need to - people will only play so long if there's no Pokestops / gyms near them. I'm lucky I work in the city so I can at least catch some Pokemon in the week.
We need to pass 1 million views first though.

Game launched in my country just few hours ago. Too bad they didn't prepare for this properly. But I guess I am used to this by now.. I played a lot of Blizzard game midnight launches.

I kinda assumed that the game stops tracking at speeds faster than running or cycling. Running was my guess.

i just destroyed 3 gyms within spitting distance of each other and claimed them as my own, as soon as I go to take a snapshot for proof, the servers crashed (I went to position it so it would show all 3, but it bugged as i was adjusting.
I read 20km/h, so 12 mph. Not sure which is correct!

It does on mine. There's a delay in the tracking. My 15 minute commute to work every morning gets me about 2K, and there is only a slight area where traffic is slow moving. However, the 2K does not show up for a good 5-10 minutes after I get to work. It's not immediate.

Why would anyone want to DDOS anything?
There is no real difference between a DDOS attack and millions of people logging in at once. So no, its probably just the 26 countries trying to get in.
Because some people just suck.
I'm about to get off work so I hope the servers are back up soon.

When I was getting mileage added I was driving through subdivisions at around 20-25mph. Sometimes slower if I didn't have anyone around me. And like others have said it doesn't add time immediately, it was about a 2 minute delay to show progress.
I even started going through downtown more when leaving for work just so I could get slower traffic.

On the upside, if this problem is tackled we might not have to deal with DDOS attacks ever again

It's most likely not. Most people judging by Twitter don't even know it launched in other countries today and just think the game is fucked again. That's what happens when you don't communicate with your clientele

damn, went for a walk with my brother and didn't notice that the servers were hardly working until we were past a few poke stops and they were not working, trying to log back in just kept freezing on the warning screen.

Yeah, communication is... poor, to say the least.
I realise they're all focused on the launch and on fixing the server issues, but it's not difficult to hire a social media / communications role whose responsibility it is to keep the social channels up to date with what's going on.
It seems like this success caught them off guard, which given the numbers is understandable, but stuff like having someone keep social media up to date is just basic stuff which should have been covered from day one.
