Pokémon ORAS: October website update - Screens, Trailer, new Megas

He said it right in the interview

Like I said before, the fact that he's following this mindset doesn't give me much hope that it'll come back anytime soon.

Same here.

What some people are failing to realize is that this is a recurring thing for Game Freak. You shouldn't be surprised. It all started with the VS Seeker in FRLG.

The only hope is they listen to post-play surveys. Given how the questions NOE asked me were generic suggests they won't. In fact Fire Emblem Awakening was the only non-generic post-play survey I've done where they specifically asked what features you wanted to see in new FE games (yes/no/maybe type for thing for things like marriage and pair-up).

Emerald's battle frontier is unmatched, they better kept it in. >.>
I've never experienced it either. It will sad if it is only Battle tower with the Maison modes added complete with mostly recycled movesets from the subway.

From that interview, about the Battle Frontier:

Trainer customization isn't the only feature that Pokémon fans want to see in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The Battle Frontier, which features a variety of advanced challenges in a theme park-like setting, is another popular feature that has lately been absent from the series. Will it also be missing in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire?

When I asked Ohmori, he seemed to consider his words carefully: "All I can really say is that we have quite a lot of content for after players finish the game this time around. We also have a lot of features like contests and secret bases, so right now we're only really talking about those."

Ohmori did, however, confirm that move tutors will be in this version, and that certain Pokémon will be able to learn moves they couldn't learn before. As for the rest of the postgame content, expect an optional quest centered around Mega Rayquaza, plus the usual array of legendary Pokémon and hidden dungeons.
Move Tutors are back, and he is hiding something, probably BF... or maybe not. There should be some kind of simple Battle Tower at least, that's for sure, and he didn't mention that either.

They left out customization so when they included it in 7th gen they can tell us "we've been listening!" And everyone will freak out and he happy, etc.

They'll be able to market "character customization is back!"

M-Mega Glalie.

Fuck, you, Gamefreak. I know you're doing some pretty shitty, underhanded stuff, but then you throw in a Mega for one of my favorite Pokemon of all time...and I know I can't hold back.

I still have my Glalie from Emerald. Named it after a girl I liked, lol.

Your crush evolved into a MEGA crush

why would name a Glalie after your crush!

I named all my Pokemon back then after people I knew. I was, like, 13?

Glalie was my FAVORITE Pokemon in Gen 3. I was actually sort of mad when we got Froslass, who was technically superior statistic wise, and poor Glalie was ignored.

11 years, huh?
HMM....

:|

What a dumb non-reason to remove a feature that everyone loved.
I am a huge Pokemon fan, and will get this to get all the Megas for the next game that will have custom characters, but as soon as I get all the Megas I'll go right back to play X/Y outside of some post game content. Not being able to customize your character is ridiculous. Shame, this looks so much improved from X/Y but will not have a non custom character as my main version of Pokemon.

Flying around looks really cool, I must say.

About what I'm feeling as well, IF they even bring it back in the next game.

Sorry if old.

I just noticed something interesting here:

Fake out is both a level -- move and an Egg move. IIRC a wild Skitty would not come with it.

I wonder if that means if hidden Pokemon come with egg moves.

We already know search pokemon can come with rare moves, so it isn't out of the question

Taken from Smogon:

Mega Steelix gets Sand Force and it's stats are 75/125/230/55/95/30

Mega Glaile gets Refrigerate and it's stats are 80/120/80/120/80/100

Oh my God, how good would a Clefable mega evolution would be with those stats.

Edit:Pokemon, a game so hard that even 10,000 people randomly playing at the same time can still make it through the end.

I think this game, might be harder than the last one (never played it, but I saw people just effortlessly beat the champion on their first try) with all those characters having Megas.

I'm unsure about this game. The new features look great, the updated features are amazing and I like a good number of the new megas.

But the lack player customization is a huge point off for me. I loved it in XY and I would travel city to city looking for new clothes daily.

Am I being to unforgiving with Game Freak this time? I mean. I was okay with losing features before, (why can't my Pokemon follow me), but this was some uniqueness and individuality for the first time in Pokemon and that is one of the biggest appeals for me in any game.

all in favor of just having game freak design the 'mons and having an internal nintendo team actually develop shit competently for a change

I'd say no. I was dissapointed at the lack of character customization but was still looking forward to it, but the more I've thought about it the more pissed off it makes me. I loved Pokemon, and have eagerly awaited the gen 3 remakes, but custom characters is not a "feature" its who you are. And in a game like Pokemon it is of utmost importance. It is not something they can take out and get away with it and yet they have. I'm surprised there isn't more of an uproar over this, and no because the original gen 3 games didn't have custom characters is not an excuse.

This may be the first Pokemon game I don't get. I just don't see how they can remove something like this. It really feels unforgivable in my mind. Pokemon is about YOU on a journey. YOU battling others online, etc. I know they went a long time without customs, but when they added it they can not remove it just like that like they have over other things like Pokemon walking behind you. Removing hair color, clothing, skin tones, is about the most dumbest thing they could remove. I just can't believe they actually removed them.

If not the Battle Frontier, then we'll have something else Battley.

Anyway, I was thinking and there may be a logical reason behind no patch...at least for not having them in your game.

Say you patched it and you shifted the Beedrillite over and it's on your Beedrill in your party. Now, say you delete the patch, or move the game onto an unpatched machine and play there. BAM. Glitch data, broken game.

Though they should at least have done a patch so you can see them in battle for full compatibility

This isn't the first game to have DLC; it's a problem that's been solved for a long time. Put a flag in the save file with the version number, and if the patch isn't found, refuse to load until it's redownloaded.

Such a message was found in the SSB 3DS ROM rip, and I've seen it done in plenty of other games.

Of course if they didn't think ahead at all for some reason and didn't implement this functionality from the start (which wouldn't surprise me), there's little they could do.

Wow. I Don't get that decision at all.

Fucking a
Their reasoning is that trainer customization in XY was just to fit the region and give it its own flair and therefore putting it in ORAS would make no sense.

The actual reasoning is probably that the director of ORAS didn't see the point in trainer customization for a remake and therefore didn't want to use resources on it.

I'm still a bit peeved though because the protags' default skin colors are too dark for me. Yes, I'm *that* white. I'm not joking. ;_;

Can we at least customize our looks for wi-fi battles? I mean like in Gen V how we had different trainer types to choose from. We need something to differentiate ourselves do that we are not all male and female clones.

It works like Gen V. This means that in the actual battle your opponent will see your ingame trainer model. However, on menu screens and stuff they'll see the trainer type you selected, and in secret bases they'll also see the trainer type you selected to prevent timeline paradoxes from occurring.

Pretty much, except those French fellas, they have style.

This is the part of the decision that really bothers me the most. If Masuda said it couldn't be there because of time constraints it would still suck but at least it doesn't sound as mind numbingly stupid as we decided to remove avatar customization in this social interaction-heavy series because we thought the concept of fashion should be exclusive to one region of our fictional world.

That kind of excuse is of course something only the director of a too big to fail series could use.
