Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Remakes Announced for 3DS

When Pokemon X and Y were announced, I had really high hopes that Game Freak would make really amazing use of Streetpass. It's an amazing technology, and games like Animal Crossing have shown me that it's a real incentive to carry my 3DS around. Could you imagine what Pokemon could do with Streetpass? Have a single Pokemon slot in your PC for Streetpass trade. Set general conditions for what you're looking for, such as level, gender, type, or keep it random, and then after walking around come home to see what you may have traded with a stranger? Or how about leveraging the battle box? As you pass by people on the street, you exchange battle box data so that you can fight an AI controlled version of their teams when you get home?

The latter idea sounds good and I wouldn't have minded seeing something like that integrated. The whole Streetpass trade function sounds really pointless though, considering that we have the GTS that lets you set up custom trades and Wonder Trade for random trades.

Jokes aside, Megas need to be commonplace this time round. No more "you must be special" horseshit, it's a known mechanic and I want literally every Gym Leader to be using that noise.

But didn't it make you feel good when the rival was boohooing that you were more special than they were? :)

Same, that is assuming that they add more Megas, they might not unless they can patch XY to allow you to battle ORAS players who use the new Megas.

Can't wait for Castform again.

Sapphire is the only game where I completed a Pokedex. I shall do the same for this AND the nationaldex.

Expect disappointments.

That's not what I expect, oh no. I'm disappointed in advance for them making a silly move to make them super exclusive to MCs and Champions, again. :(

Hard to say, but there's enough to go on for now. Absol, Gardevoir, Mawile, Aggron, Manectric (why), Medicham, Banette, Gyarados and Alakazam all got Megas so we might be set for Hoenn Pokemon.

Be ready for surfing.

Lots and lots of surfing.

On the plus side, the region's really cool other than all the surfing, and hopefully Gamefreak gives it some improvements like Kanto got in Heart Gold and Soul Silver.

Surfing is great. Although gen 4/5/6 didn't have much sea/oceans/water to surf on.

I hope the remakes won't be as casual, wasted and empty (of content) than X/Y. (among other big flaws, including the 3D jump)

They are my favorite region and favorite starters. It was probably also one of the most risky and drastic changes in the series. However, it got a lot of hate because you couldn't transfer your gen 1 and gen 2 pokemon to it and they got rid of the day/night cycle. I loved it anyway and this is someone who was playing Pokemon Red/Blue in the height of the pokemon fever.

Exactly my thoughts on the whole thing. When Gen 3 first launched it was extremely polarizing (the fact I was around posting on IGN and such when it launched... man how old am I really?!). I fell on the side that absolutely loved it: it took some big risks and a lot of what's normal in the series now (Pokemon abilities and double battles in particular) started with Gen 3.

Plus, personally, it gave me fucking Mudkip / Swampert, Flygon, Ninjask, Metagross, Sableye... so many others I love.

Gen 3 deserves the full remake treatment, 11 years later.

Expect them to remove some Pokémon from the Gym Leader's team also, making all of them (besides Roxanne and Brawly, who would have only two each) have only three Pokémon in their teams. No more Winona having 5 Pokémon in her team, no more happiness.

Holy hell. Ruby was the last Pokemon I ever finished(never got far in Diamond and haven't tried any of the later entires). It was my favorite as a kid. I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooved secret bases.

Very excited.

I didn't even notice this was a thing in XY.

...Nah, they won't do that.

But if we get Blaziken, we can reenact the battle from the anime! D:

Charizard gets bodied by Blaziken, I like it.

People should expect the same game from 11 years ago just with updated everything else. They did not make FR/LG or SS/HH any less from the originals. If anything they added more.

Grovyle. Two fire starters would be hella lame. He would replace Ivysaur.
I think you're going to be disappointed if you're hoping for an Ivysaur replacement.

I don't think they'll do this, if only because they'll have to reintroduce Mega Rings, which I don't think they'll do before the first gym.

"Slaking's Slakingite is reacting to Norman's Mega Ring!"
That would be sweet! Maybe he just gets amped up on coffee.

Tate and Liza will have only one Pokemon each. ;_;
Anyone mention the magazine scan? Am I late to the party?

Rayquaza merge crazy.
Magazine scan is fake.

I'd love if Mega Slaking was just Slaking standing up.

YYYYEEESSSSSS

Super excited to revisit Hoenn again and hear that glorious music. I'm gonna go with Ruby again like I did back when they first came out.

They better put new Megas in, I would hate it if you got an advantage for picking Torchic over the other starters.

I'm excited for this. I just hope they add a lot more repeatability once you finish the story. Pokemon X and Y was great, but they kind whiffed it in that department imo.

But if we get Blaziken, we can reenact the battle from the anime! D:

Two fire starters being playable would break my heart.

I think you're going to be disappointed if you're hoping for an Ivysaur replacement.

I'm not expecting it lol.

I've just had a thought. I don't know what I'm going to do. In Ruby, I picked Blaziken. In Y, I used Blaziken. Who do I pick in Alpha Sapphire? I can't have Blaziken again, that'll be boring. I also did a Ruby run with Swampert, but I don't remember if I liked him or not. Maybe Sceptile? Grass isn't the greatest starter type.

This was my least favourite gen, and the one that actually stopped me playing before picking up Pearl years later and getting back into Pokemon, but I'm willing to give it another shot.

Gen 3 was so bad that after it you didn't play again until the very next generation? You probably didn't mean that, but that sounds quite funny.

Was about to say the same thing. Sapphire was one of the first Pokemon games that I completed 100%.

Think my playtime was over 310 hours...

Best 3DS's news ever, but i was already expecting this though.

I'm going with #TeamAlpha because I already played Ruby, but I'll get Mudkip again 'cause he is awesome
