Pokkén Tournament Championship Series - Pokkén World Championships Announced

TPCi going HARD this year.

I don't think it's behind schedule at all. We always have gap years.

Come off it! You were expecting it to be releasing imminently a matter of months ago.

If it isn't behind schedule, all of the Z promotion is vastly ahead of schedule.

I was expecting a release next month, granted, but I have been saying since ~mid 2014 that 2015 would have no game.

What? Netplan on Smash 4 is fine if you're wired. Never had any issues from my end when both players are wired.

Although that can hold true for most peer-to-peer games, many people (myself sometimes included) find it too inconvenient to work a cable to the console.
On that note: Screw peer-to-peer.

Is pokken still not out in the west? I should go grind arcade pokken so I can be the first champion.

Never seen someone hate on peer-to-peer for fighting games before.

If you are even semi good at fighting games, this is a good game to be competitive at. There is no meta and people are on even ground more or less.

peer-to-peer is way better than dedicated servers for 1v1 fighting games. All a dedicated server would do is add more latency.

That said, I've gotten smooth Smash 4 games on WiFi on both versions of the game. And this is coming from someone who noticed MK8's "59 FPS" before it was pointed out by Digital Foundry. It's just that it's hard to fuck up a wired connection (though it can be done if you're talented) whereas a lot of things can interfere with WiFi (my microwave can go to hell). There's other benefits to wired, too, but the main thing is that, well, it's hard to fuck up.

Play in a Pokkén Tournament Championship Series event at Evo 2016, the largest fighting game tournament in the world!

This July, Pokkén Tournament joins the roster of fighting games at the Evo Championship Series in Las Vegas, Nevada! Evo is the premier fighting game event, drawing thousands of players from across the globe to compete for prizes and glory. Major cash prizes will be on the line for the top finishers. With Pokkén Tournament joining the action for the first time, players will be facing a tough, new challenge! There will be an entrance fee to compete at Evo, and players will need to bring their own controllers.

Evo will be one of the big events in the Pokkén Tournament Championship Series, where players will compete for prizes, as well as invitations and travel awards to the Pokkén Tournament World Championships this August in San Francisco, California! Also, look forward to a Pokkén Tournament Championship Series event at the Pokémon US National Championships.

Stay tuned for more information on the Pokkén Tournament Championship Series!
So there will be travel awards (used by Pokemon to mean airfare + hotel fully paid) for Worlds. The hotel for Worlds would be the Marriott Marquis San Francisco.

On a completely different note, does the move to Ohio for Nats mean the death of the infamous train hotel? Or was that somewhere else?

This actually brings up a question. It's been a while since I played in the Pokemon circuit that TPCi puts on for the mainline games, but at least a few years ago, all the events were free to enter, and the winners would get various Pokemon items, scholarships, and travel stipends for the next event; no straight money. Here they confirm there will be an entry fee, and I can't imagine EVO not having monetary payouts ( though I guess it's not guaranteed until confirmed), but I do wonder if there will be Pokemon swag as a reward too lol.

Train Hotel was Indianapolis' Crowne Plaza.

I'm sure Evo will be a monetary payout. Though Regionals don't do monetary payouts, they do have entrance fees starting next month and smaller events often have entrance fees. We charge $5 in my area with store credit as prizes as we get the venues for free at hobby stores.

What are pokken's control options on the wii u?

All we know is that it supports a custom Hori (?) pad in addition to the Gamepad. If you play two people on the same console, one player must use the Gamepad.

I'm pretty sure the GamePad Pro works too, but stuff like the Smash adapter or any Wii controllers might not...

Awesome I can use my GC controller (Wii mote adapter) but wouldn't this game be a big problem for evo since all the control options are wireless? Interference is bound to happen.
The Pokken Tournament Pro Controller is wired via USB port and will likely be the recommended option.

Ohhh ok but man they might as well patch support for the GC adapter while they're at it, this game is going to have a huge cross over with the smash community during evo.

Nintendo insists on the adapter being a Smash 4 thing. Which is dumb.

Oh well, at least they were able to get a wired controller out there. Kind of annoying I can't just use one of my GCN ones but it is what it is.

Pokkén Tournament uses digital inputs, & the D-Pad on the GameCube Controller is shit.

The difference between Smash and Pokémon is that Sakurai and friends don't make their game with the competitive scene in mind.
They've patched the game a shit load of times each time making other characters better and severely nerfing others (rip Diddy Kong)

It's far better than what we got with SSBB which was broken Meka Knight forever.

Let me clarify that.

I would have liked to use that until I was able to save up a bit more money to get the Pokken Controller. As it is I'll have to use other controllers. The classic controllers have awkward shit, the gamepad's heavy and kind of awkward (but i'll probably use it a lot 'cuz offscreen), and using the d-pad on the Pro feels kinda weird while the analog stick isn't gated like the GCN's.

I plan to get the Pokken Controller anyways if I play the game for longer than a week or two, but more options is nice.

Diddy's still solid, he's just not Sheik good. Either way, Sakurai most likely takes tournament results into account when patching Smash 4's balance.
