Why did anyone think Obama was a progressive? Sounds like some folks just didn't know how to read. He's always been a pragmatist, that's why I voted for him.

Hm it's almost as if those two things should necessarily be tied together.

I'll repeat what I've just said. All of you guys must be <20 years old, and still in college or high school. There is simply no way you could have seen even the last 5-10 years of politics and not conclude this was a remarkably productive 2 years. And if you have been around since before Reagan you would've think this was a miracle era, since Democrats held the majority for like 40 years and very little to show for it.

Then you're both wrong and stupid. I'm forty. Passing terrible legislation, much of which won't take effect for years, and the rest of which has loopholes big enough to drive fleets through isn't progress.

I dunno about 'progressive', but I certainly thought he was more center-left than center-right.

Though more importantly, I didn't think he'd be such a bitch ass.

I can only conclude you haven't been paying attention to politics until very recently. Washington has always been like this, and always will.

Washington has always been like this! Super productive! (wait what)

By the way you're all children.

Keep concluding incorrectly. I've been a member of the Democratic party since 18, working at both the local and state level. I've voted in every major election and worked on multiple campaigns. I was politically aware before Reagan took office.

You want to keep your stupid streak going?

Than explain away the Clinton administration from 1993-1994, if you're so historically knowledgeable.

seriously..?
It was a joke, because part of Olbermann's special comment was saying the far right was trying to paint Obama as the racist and that part could be taken on its own to make it sound like he simply called Obama a racist, similar to other edited clips Hannity has used to smear Obama and others.

It feels like I'm watching a guy trying to start a bar fight, unaware that the guy he is provoking is Mike Tyson. It's pretty awesome.

Pretty much. The only time he seemed to show any fortitude was when calling out Fox News for what they are, and that didn't last long.

I have no idea what you want me to explain away. Did you mean refudiate?

Just give your account of that period, given that it was last time Democrats held both houses of Congress and the Presidency.

No wonder this country is going down the drain. We have worthless situations like this to deal with in the media as opposed to focusing on much more important issues like the economy or those two wars. WWE politics for the win. Obama might as well start coming out shirtless and with a multicolored mask on. If we're going to have to be mired in nonsense, might as well make it entertaining.

There are issues in this world that don't include healthcare, you know.

Well, I was 23 and I worked for Domino's pizza. I was dating a bisexual girl named Sherri after spending years in the friend zone with her, and life was pretty sweet. I was working on the side in the comics industry, which eventually turned to heartbreak, but at the time it was pretty amazing getting to hang out in the pro suite. Also, I smoked a joint with Eddie Munster. Is that what you meant? A sort of man on the street view of the 93 gestalt?

I meant your political account of the time.

Fox should be shamed by other news outlets for using heavily editing footage to smear an innocent woman. If it wasn't clear before it's now painfully obvious that Fox is completely out of control.

And I'm sick and tired of the White House acting like a phucking wind sock. It seems they rarely take a stand on anything and instead just flap in wind in whatever direction the media or big business pushes them to. It's like no one in the WH even considered that maybe the video was taken out of context and that maybe the women was being wronged here. They just got so worried about the bad headline that they wanted to move past the story as quickly as possible, truth be damned.

Props to CNN for actually looking beneath the surface on the issue. Props to Sherrod for having the courage to tell her side of story instead of just rolling over. And finally props to her former clients who came on TV to come to her defense. They didn't have to do that but it shows how appreciative they were of her many many years later.

I wish this would be a wake-up call to the media to stop letting ideological propaganda spill into legitimate news. But somehow I doubt it....

I agree. It annoys me to no end that the WH is always punking out on these issues to try and appease a group that will always vote against them anyway. On the flipside, when the WH tried to marginalize entities like Fox News all the other media outlets got upset and made a big stink about it. They're in a lose-lose situation.

Since you're awesome enough to drop in and start calling out thread regulars without any conception of who they are or what their political leanings are whatsoever why don't you actually put forth your own take before making demands of other?

I've been lurking in this thread for a long while.

Oh. Clinton made one of the single dumbest tactical moves I've ever seen by appointing his wife, who was already much villified by the Republicans, to oversee the task force to come up with a health care plan. He then proceeded to stand around with his thumb up his ass while the insurance lobby poured millions of dollars into campaigns to trash anything that came out of the task force. By the time they actually had the legislation ready, it was dead on arrival and Democrats stood in line to shit on it with competing proposals.

In case you're curious, we kicked him pretty hard in the balls. Unlike you, I don't feel a need to polish up a turd and pretend it's gold. Presidents set their own goals usually, and their success or failure is often judged on how well they reached them. Obama failed in health care by his own metrics as established during the campaign and after election. I'm not sure I can honestly say he's failed on FinReg, because his continued employ of Geithner suggests he achieved exactly what he wanted on FinReg -- a bill he could pretend was useful during the next election that won't too discomfit the guys with all the money.

This is a lot less interesting than my bisexual girlfriend, by the way.
