Obama Team responds to Mitt asking for an apology

http://politicalwire.com/archives/2...ds_to_romney_request_for_apology.html#048977a

Money quote
Mitt Romney. He sure likes to ask for a lot of apologies. When he is not busy launching attacks.

Ends with Newt Gingrich of course

Also, that Ad linked above using Romney singing...amazing. They are like releasing a new Ad every 2 days. Their ad spending is reaching 100 million dollars.

Hopefully the money keeps coming in.

I read an article this week, that because the money Romney is raising is mostly in the RNC Victory fund and not his campaign account, not all of those dollars can be used on Ads as opposed to Obama's money.

Holy fucking shit. We have a double kill! Hahaha Obama going OG on this fool.

Hi Poligaf, been lurking and following for years and have learned a shit ton along the way, but just to take a sidestep from the presidential elections for a bit, how is the house and senate elections looking for the dems. It would be nice for Obama to be able to pass something in his last term without the republicans blocking everything.

No need to get too excited. Economy is what will still matter the most.

But what really matters with the economy is two-fold: Who do people blame for the economy being the way it is and who is causing the economy to stay the way it is? You can say it's the economy, stupid, but "the economy" is a bit more complicated than that. I think still by a majority people blame Bush for the economy. As for keeping the economy this way, Obama has another plus in that people overwhelmingly disapprove of Congress. Yeah he's still going to get the general backlash, since he's the biggest named guy in charge of all this currently, but he won't be getting the full brunt of it as long as those two key points keep polling the way they do.

That was some "Daisy" level shit.
The daisy ad was so effective because it was a policy ad, it was forward looking.
This is at the end of the day, a personal attack, it's backward looking, it doesn't even try to tie it to policies Romney will put forward if he's elected president.

Now, I'm generally okay(ish) with that ad, because -
a. Romney based his candidacy around being an awesome job creator, I think it's fair game to evaluate that assertion.
b. He's pretty fucking vague on that issue.

But effective attack ads are tied to policy.
Look at Willie Horton or the Dukakis tank ad, yeah, they were unfair, and misrepresented his positions, but they tied it to policy - "soft on crime" and defense cuts.

Great political ad. For continuity sakes, I wish it didn't have Obama at the beginning looking all humble and serious.
For real.
I think all his attack ads should start like this.

It could slide either way, honestly. A lot of it has to do with the themes and stories related to the presidency race, so if Obama has a clear advantage come October, the advantage will also be in the dems favor.

awesome ad by the Obama campaign. posted it on facebook and of course people are already replying with links to the factchecking websites screaming 'not true!!!'. definitely hits a sensitive spot.

and did anyone else find it funny that during the interviews Romney was lamenting the fact that he was getting hammered by negative ads and wished the campaign was about the 'issues'? this from the same guy who pummeled the shit out of his pathetic opponents in the primary via his superpacs whilst claiming he had no idea what was happening.

would be really nice if the obama campaign could manage to use that Romney quote when he said "if you can't stand the heat...." to some effect.

I think the forward looking stuff should come in September/October. You define your opponent in the Summer and then once everyone believes him to be a certain way, show how that definition will effect his policies.

If September rolls around and Obama isnt running adds that Romney wont add jobs as he cares more about making him foreign corporate buddies happy, then I would be surprised.

Im not necessarily agreeing that focusing on non-policy items are appropriate campaigning strategy for a political office. However, the unfortunate reality is how you are framed matters. Thus, it is important to frame your opponent and then making policy attacks.

I think they will attack him on his effective tax rate, it's such an obvious attack it writes itself.
It's also much easier to tie it policies he's on the record supporting.

Dems won't win the house but will probably pick up one or two seats, it may end up being more but Republican funds will probably allow them to win majority of the races.

Dem have a 50/50 shot of losing the senate, for the same reason, funds.

They haven't brought everything yet

"I am also unemployed"
"I don't care about the very poor"
"Corporations are people too my friend"

etc

The ad paints him as soft on the slimy rich and greedy businessmen who people blame for the economy

When I watch that Obama ad with Romney singing all I think is Obama not putting his hand on his heart during the national anthem. I'd imagine many white, blue collar workers in Ohio will think the same

AlteredBeast

Fork 'em, Sparky!
That one's a web ad only for the press, most likely.

Or for...you know, the internet and the millions that will possibly see it. I imagine it will get wiped though, that ad was terrible, especially seeing as how great the last ad was.

Maybe President Obama pulled a Romney and decided to fire the guy who made the last commercial since he was getting too much credit.

That ad was horrible. Why spend money to air your opponent talking negatively about you? One of the worst ads I have ever seen.
Exactly what I thought when I saw it; I think the only messages that many people are going to get from that ad are the ones coming from Romney.

Bring up your own perceived weaknesses so you can inoculate so they have less effect as the campaign progresses (Rev. Wright, Democrats are wusses, etc) and it makes Romney look like a robotic, wimpy hypocrite.

No. Blue collar workers in Ohio are greatly affected by the auto-bailout and have seen the success of it, especially up in Cleveland. Shit's Obama's, PD.

Really? I doubt many voters even remember that as it was so long ago and you seriously think that's the first thing they will think of when they see that? C'mon son.
