I really can't believe how Mitt fucked this whole trip up. The UK should be easy. Why is he having such a hard time with the fucking UK of all places?

Oh, do you need top secret for an embassy internship? I dunno, never had any kind of job like that.

I looked into it and it was secret or top secret depending on the post.

Be honest about stuff that happened three years ago or longer.
I just assume if its not habitual or frequent they don't really care if its weed. If your a college student and one time at a party someone handed you a joint I don't think they care. I refuse to believe the embassys are free from people who've smoked in their life.

No, they are smart enough not to admit it.

They will find it. Don't they interview your friends if you need top secret?

I've always heard be honest.
They do background checks for every government related job; I'm in one. They ask you to list your acquaintances and their phone numbers, but they only call if they're really suspicious. They also send an agent for a face-to-face interview. Besides, even if they do call, it's not hard to tell your acquaintances to speak in your glory. This is the office that does it.
gormless? Man...

They're worried about people taking bribes, I think they'd care a lot about a disregard for the law. Even though it's a stupid law.

The Fed is already audited every year to the point it needs to be. Ron Paul is stupid and needs to go away.

Well i have no idea wtf is going on with this Fed business then. 89 dems sided with them on this.

Also your wish is granted, unless he starts showing up on fox news as an "expert" or something, ron paul is NOT seeking re-election.

Most likely just got an internship offer at the US Embassy in Ottawa rescinded because I admitted to using marijuana in the past 12 months.

I may be guest starring in the drunk thread tonight.

I admire your honesty, shame it's not always rewarded. Did they specifically say state that as the reason?

Have a drink on me buddy.

Obama doesn't understand or respect the special relationship with Great Britain...yet republicans insult and demean the UK health system and other items on a near daily basis. Including calling them socialists. But no, sending some DVDs is worse right...

What a farce. Too bad he's not going to Germany or France

Well he is headed to Israel and they are currently debating allowing religious people being allowed to dodge the draft in Israel.

Mitt has some experience with that too, so maybe he can chime in on the debate. ;-)

Depends on the job. I was visited by an old school FBI agent regarding a colleague doing a judicial clerkship. No shit, he asked me if she was patriotic and if I thought she might be a communist. As if I would tell tell the old coot if she were!

Mitt Romney's foreign trip looks to be as astonishing success. The only thing he needed to do that he didn't hold a speech damning Europe for influencing the Obama socialist government and I think the world would have been clamoring so hard for a Romney presidency that they hold a mini-revolution to rewrite the American laws to allow anyone on Earth to vote in an US presidential election

Same for me, except my friend was going to work for a government contractor.

I stared at the guy as if his face had turned purple when he asked if I thought my friend was patriotic. I guess it's probably a standard question, but how stupid is it to ask another person to judge the patriotism of another?

I had a friend who got visited by one and was asked if he thought his neighbor was having an affair, if he loved his country and what not.

All they are looking for is if the person is susceptible to foreign influence. If there's is a conflict they will chose the US and not do something like wikileaks.

Relax about the polls. Romney is Mr. Gaffe. More shit expected to fall out his mouth. Also wait until the debates. Every question he has been dodging will be asked and watch him squirm as a heavy sweat forms on his top lip.
This guy can't answer a simple question straight. He will get pwned by Obama in the debates.

It's obvious that he could smell the communism on you, he just wasn't able to pin-point it.

I haven't been here very long, but you are basically saying that TA is the evolved form of Kosmo?
ToxicAdam is a conservative, Kosmo is a GOP fanboy.

No, conservatism has changed... not TA

GAF has changed also. When I first joined, there were many more far left people (that were more active and vocal).

Drinky, Triumph, Maynerd, Mandark, Scorcho, fortified concept, xabre, Chichikov, ReggieTFE, monkeytehbais, etc etc

My views on global warming and the death penalty put me in the 'far right wing' on GAF.

I've always heard be honest.

Don't know about embassy positions, but I have a pretty high government clearance, just one step from being able to view some one like McCain's medical file (with purpose of course, not on a whim and that shit is flagged so you better be able to explain it), and, they never interviewed my friends. They send out a questionnaire for the friends you identify as being able to confirm your residence and actions for a certain period of time (just re-iterating that you get to choose who is contacted).

Most of those leftists were actually interested in holding their side accountable. Now we just have posters who carry water for Obama

Is your problem with the site you have to go to or the facts? What is on your list of approved sites, Kos, TPM, 538, NYT, what else?

lol. I can understand if you list Kos and TPM, even though it's still a fucking awful comparison, but the NYT? Really, Kosmo? Really?

This is very difficult for you people, so I'll try and make it as simplistic as possible. A website's bias by itself has no bearing on the website's legitimacy. Kos and TPM are openly (and proudly) left wing, but they don't fucking make up bullshit news stories or spread crap that you find in a chain e-mail. Whereas, almost every single major Right wing "news" site relies SIGNIFICANTLY on "a friend of a cousin of a friend who posts on a blog who knows a guy who knows a guy, etc." style reporting. Most right wing "news" items are literally no more than just glorified chain e-mails. These fuckers THRIVE on that type of insulated, bubble encapsulated world that they themselves have created.

I mean, goddamn Kosmo.

Yes, but not many would consider going on missions (as missionaries, not secret ops military stuff, mind you) as dodging military service. I find the accusation very annoying, to be honest.
He protested in favor of the war and then got 4 deferments. And his mission in France went for 30 months . . . longer than most such missions.

And considering how much the Romney campaign keeps trying to paint Obama as a 'foreigner', it is fair game to point out that instead of fighting the war that he supported he spent 2 & half years in Paris, France avoiding the draft.
