Are you for tax payer money to go to these companies to build these nuclear power plants?

Well, we had a healthy nuclear industry until the Democrats curb stomped it into submission in 1977. Then in the following years allowed special interest groups to effectively strangle it under regulations and taxing it into near non-profitability. Which is a major reason why so many exisiting projects at that time pulled the plug. So, it should be no surprise that investors abandoned the industry after losing so much money. (Bu bu bu the market failed, right Mandark?)

Due to human nature's affection with NIMBY, the only solution would be for government-controlled nuclear plants (and OIL REFINERIES) to be built where they make the most sense. It's as important as the national highway system was 50 years ago and should be treated as such. Perhaps after these plants are up and running you could slowly turn them over to private control .. that's a discussion for our children to have. But for now, you need a big hammer (the government) to start driving in the stake and get it going.

well this joe the plumber shit takes away from people talking about McCains "If you are in the military you dont need any formal training or certificate to teach children"

For real!! Me and my wife were fucking floored by that shit. Had to pause and rewind the DVR, straight up bewilderment style.

I just posted a link from the CBO showing that nuclear costs tripled their initial estimates for plants pre-1977.

Sorry, TA, but with your record I'm going to have to hear more than just assertions that This Is How It Really Happened.

There's some unverified stuff out there that's a lot less flattering than that about ol' Joe.

Can someone tell me who the hell this Joe guy is? What's his argument?

Joe is an American hero. He told Obama to take his socialism/communism back to Russia. He's going to be the Secretary of Plumbing under McCain.

boot camp style teachers. kids are so disrespectful these days so that's not a bad idea.

That's pretty universal - you can't vote absentee if you'll be present on election day.

Missouri, btw.

Not in Cali. You can be a permanent absentee voter, though they recently changed the name to "vote-by-mail ballot/voter". You can even drop off your ballot, or get someone to, the day of the election if you forget to send it in.

The Lamonster said:
Where can I check to see if my state (MO) has early voting? I know I can send in an absentee ballot, but I will not be absent on election day so that's not allowed.

Unfortunately MO doesn't have an early voting system, and to vote absentee you have to have a legally acceptable excuse.

Anyone remember a similar hub-bub about a guy who asked a question in one of the town hall debates (92 or 96?) Accusations of being a plant and all that. I vaguely remember there being a controversy way back then.

Mandark, I need to go home. I'll come back later and bloody your nose with incredible KNOWLEDGE and FACTS.

Like a new model of cost-efficient nuclear plant, I suppose precedents can be broken!

lol@ Mika Brzezinski's dad on the top left. I'm sure she's not going to be happy about this.

What's wrong with being Pro-Palenstin? I mean all of them aren't bad people.

You gotta understand, that wing believes that pro-Palestine is anti-Israel. It's on the fringes of the debate where you can't actually be pro-both.

Ah snap, it's Kimbo vs. Petruzelli all over again!! Get your bets in, folks!

But which one is Kimbo?

this whole plant shit is one of the reason why obama refused town hall meetings with mccain.. im pretty sure they were planning on doing this crap.
It's funny; Obama didn't even refuse to do town-halls. He just negoiated for less - and McCain refused.

Accroding to ABCnews, Joe would actually benefit under Obama's tax plan. They spell it out pretty convincingly.

and they are posting on their front page he owes taxes:

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Vote2008/story?id=6047360&page=1

Wurzelbacher conceded today that he is not in danger of being hit with the higher tax rate. He acknowledged that he wants to buy a plumbing company for $250,000 to $280,000. That wouldn't be how much profit he would make from the firm.

He would make much less, he said.

That would seem to indicate that Wurzelbacher would not be subject to Obama's proposed tax increase from 36 percent to 39 percent for those making more than $250,000 per family. Instead, he would be eligible for a tax cut that Obama is proposing.

Nevertheless, the plumber said people shouldn't be "punished' for success even if you become a billionaire.

"I don't like it," said Wurzelbacher. "You know, me or -- you know, Bill Gates, I don't care who you are. If you worked for it, if it was your idea, and you implemented it, it's not right for someone to decide you made too much."

One of the assessments from the MSNBC crew last night was that even if McCain and Obama did 100 of these, Obama would "win" each time on pure style alone.

Oh it possibly gets better, of course nothing confirmed yet as regards kinship.

Do Todd and Sarah Palin Know Doug Wurzelbacher Of Wasilla, Alaska?

It would appear so . . . I mean it is a "small town" with small town values.

Is Doug Wurzelbacher related to Joe Wurzelbacher AKA "Plumber Joe"?

According to the census, there are less than 175 Wurzelbachers in the country, and one of them lived in... WASILLA, ALASKA! and was involved in competitive snow racing.

If he is his brother, then what are the odds of that chance meeting with Obama :lol

Oh what a tangled web we weave... :P

Can we really rule out that Joe is related to the aliens that are also using Bristol to incubate their spawn that will soon overrun the Earth?

This story has the possibility of getting very amazing. :lol

McCain seems like a decent enough guy who has the misfortune of having his campaign run by people significantly less scrupulous than himself.

That's pretty much all you need to know about how he'd run a government.

This has the potential to be epic.

I don't expect that all the Wurzlebachers in America know each other though.

Joe's immediate connection (and eventual disappointment) with the American people is eerily similar to a certain governor of Alaska.
