CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is willing to talk with Barack Obama if the Democratic candidate wins Tuesday's election.

Chavez says that relations between Venezuela and the U.S, now at their lowest point in years, could improve in an Obama presidency.

During a televised speech on Sunday, Chavez said he would meet with Obama only "on equal and respectful terms."

Chavez ordered the U.S. ambassador out of Venezuela on Sept. 12, accusing the envoy of involvement in a purported assassination plot. U.S. officials deny it.

He also recalled his ambassador from Washington and suggested that relations would not be fully restored until U.S. President George W. Bush leaves the White House.

There's like a day and a half left until election day. Stop freaking out over every little thing. In the absolute worst case this will counterbalance the Cheney endorsement or something.

Yup, it actually is good that foreign leaders (allies and otherwise) think Obama seems reasonable but this will be all over Fox as an endorsement. Sigh..
 
A few pages back, someone has mentioned the Palin rally where one of the supporters passed something to Todd Palin. Did anything happen with that story? Was it mentioned on the news stations? did we ever find out what the item was? and do we have video?
 
Imagine if McCain wins for a moment. What do we do? I mean, obviously you have all the really passionate people that want Obama to win, but then you have all the times the Republicans have basically melted down and admitted how Palin isnt ready and how they hate their shit tactics. I mean all that is out there now, and we would be knowingly electing people who arent worthy. Hope things keep going how they are going.
 
Another update on Florida's early voting:

From my calculation 2,758,155 did early voting/absentee voting in 2004.

Through Saturday, 4,107,894 early voting/absentee votes have been cast.

From my calculations, in 2004 Republicans cast 1,199,797 ballots votes versus 1,122,569 Democratic votes. So Republicans had a 77,228 vote advantage.

So far in 2008, Democrats have cast 1,869,092 ballots versus 1,544,568 ballots cast by Republicans. So Democrats currently hold a 324,524 advantage. That's a net gain of 401,752 over 2004. FYI, Bush beat Kerry by a total of 380,978 votes.
 
This Chavez thing is too fresh to be able to sink into people's minds enough to significantly sway ANYTHING.

It's Sunday night. Nobody's watching the news except old farts and dorks like us.

Most people work or are in school Monday and have made up their minds about Tuesday, and likely won't watch much because they know they'll be glued to the TV after they vote the following day.

Obama would have to seriously fuck something up.

Also, Chavez isn't even that bad. He's an obnoxious blowhard, but its not like Pol Pot just endorsed Obama.

This changes nothing, the only people who care are the people who have already made up their minds.
 
Got another one of those insipid emails from a republican. This time it was in the form of a letter from Obama thanking his mindless followers. I flipped out and replied

Quadafi? How's about Khalidi? Mccain gave him $500,000. Can you tell me how much Obama gave to Qadafi?

Agreed. Talks with Chavez isn't even that horrible. Besides, Obama consistently said it's okay to talk to people we don't like as long as we demonstrate a tough, firm diplomacy. Nobody had so much of a problem with the debates when he said he'd do it with Iran that it gave McCain any kind of edge! So Venezuela shouldn't really piss anyone off who's already pledged their support for Obama...
 
And people say I'm a concern troll. Even I know that shit won't make a difference.

I just hope PA, VA, CO, NH, and NM all turnout for Obama. VA will be known early. Let's hope.

Everyone needs to stop worrying. Yes, him losing is always a possibility until we know for sure, but geez, he has such a good chance of winning that you even shouldn't have that shit at the front of your mind!

What I'm fretting about the most is knowing we have to wait until January. The glorious moment of pure ownage that is Barack Hussein Obama being sworn in while George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have to stand there and take it. That one single event will be one of the finest moments in this nation's history, holy shit. In 2000 and 2004, Bush had no idea that the man succeeding him would be the first black President who is also a Democrat, and made his message about going against everything he believed in as he once stood there being sworn in during those two depressing days.
 
The intro to The Simpson's Holloween special was Homer trying to vote Obama on a rigged voting machine that kept casting votes everytime he touched it for McCain.

When he realized what was going on he tried to report it but the machine sucks him in and kills him while he screams "No, this can't happen in America! Maybe Ohio, but not America!"

The polls in the Cingular-y orange color include cellphones in their samples; the polls in gray do not. The cellphone polls have Obama ahead by an average of 9.4 points; the landline-only polls, 5.1 points.

I did a radio hit the other afternoon with Mark DeCamillo of California's vaunted Field Poll, which does include cellphones in their samples. He suggested to me that it was much easier to get the cooperation of cellphone users on the weekend than during the week. How come? Because most cellphone plans include free weekend minutes. Conversely, one might expect that young people are particularly difficult to reach on their landlines over the weekend, since they tend to be away from home more (especially on a weekend when some nontrivial number of them are out volunteering for Obama). So, while I haven't tried to verify this, it wouldn't surprise me if the "cellphone gap" expands over the weekend, and contracts during the week.

Have any states published a breakdown of early voting by age?

I've now heard a couple of people say the youth turnout so far is disappointing. Someone on a CNN panel yesterday mentioned 15% younger voters in GA early voting vs. 25% of total voting age population.

That would be pretty disappointing, even though it should not affect the outcome.
 
So I just went to my first presidential rally last night. I'd say around 15,000 people showed up to watch Michelle and Barack Obama in Springfield, MO. Yes, Springfield, MO. We waited in line for about 4 hours just to get in, as it was held in a high school football stadium. It was absolutely insane. Also, there were two guys dressed as Mario and Luigi. I figured it was some crazy delayed Halloween thing, but as we were leaving, they said that they were "Plumbers for Obama". I regret not taking their picture, but that was pretty awesome.

I know this will sound weird, but I always feel like sitting out an election, or sporting event, or whatever as I have to do on Tuesday while I work, deprives my favorite "team" of the energy they'll need to win.

Not only am I missing a historic event, but I also feel powerless (though I've already voted Obama)

Does that make any sense? I'll have to get someone to update me on the polls as I'm working.
