[Polygon] Activision Blizzard shareholder sues over Microsoft sale

For crying out loud, never quote Patcher on anything. His prognostications and opinions have proven to be completely the opposite of reality nearly 100% of the time. And his summary of how much Sony paid for Bungie being too much is absurd. No one talks about “cost per developer” in acquisitions, at least I’ve never ever heard of that. And I’m in the software industry. It’s always to do with revenue/profits and multiples that are associated with those businesses. And he left out the retention bonus, seemingly.

You can think what you want but again, these deal prices aren’t pulled out of nowhere. Whether or not there is long term wisdom in either of them (bungie and activision) is another discussion, but when it comes to trying to quote an “authority,” you could not pick a worse source. Good grief.
What Pachter tells gamers for free is likely radically different than what he tells the clients that pay for his analysis.

You wanna elaborate on that or just leave that nugget hanging ?

Analyst seem to say that AB price was a bargain for MS regardless of the size of the deal, and the timing seems to indicate some people were interested in cashing for pure personal reasons that may or not involve a scandal.

AB is bigger than Xbox game studios, they have bigger IP. There’s literally nothing MS can add to AB that will make them bigger than they are now.

AB joining MS’s is huge for their game division, but the opposite isn’t true.

This assessment isn’t about MS, it’s about AB’s future, and the reason why nobody ever saw this coming is exactly because there was no point to it happening. It happened because it happened, Kotic and others wanted to cash out after the scandal. How can that be in the best interest of the company itself? That kotic has to go on tv and spread fear about China and shit tells you everything, there’s no compelling case to be made.

See that's where you are wrong. In the past, yes MS had nothing to add to AB. But nowadays, AB has nothing to offer to MS. Yes they are bigger and technically have more IPs under their belt, but none of them have been successful for ages. COD failed, OW is still healthy but ain't raking money in like it used to and OW2 is in development hell. WoW was on a heavy decline before legion and while that addon gave gamers hope, BfA and Shadow lands equally quickly shattered that. W3 was one of the biggest flops this decade and all the good other IPs Activision had were either unused or underutilized.

So they both add each other a lot. AB adds IPs to bolster MS library and MS offers heavily needed management and leadership because the the one the company has right now did everything wrong they could have done.

The majority of ABs shareholders wanted to sell, so Microsoft bought them!

Bigger or not doesn't mean anything. Together they will be even bigger.

I am honestly having touble trying to grasp the point that you are making. Good or not for AB is irrelevant, that name will soon be confined to history. The share holders will all get their payouts, and all the employees with have a new employer.

Considering the context of that quote, this might be the most appropriate of gifs EVAR.

AB won’t be any bigger, so your whole point is ridiculous. That you find irrelevant whether or not this acquisition is in the best interest of a company is besides the point that was being argued.

It’s great for MS, yes. Did I say otherwise? Shareholders will get their money, ok. Who said otherwise?

It’s better for gamers that it’s MS and not Facebook or Amazon, ok.

For AB? It didn’t need MS at all, 0 value added. 0 value added to the industry also but that’s another can of worms.

?? Obviously AB aren't getting any bigger because they decided to cash out. AB is nothing but a name which will no longer exists in a bit so the whole premise of your post or point that you are trying to make to those with zero IQ is ridiculous.

Whether they needed Microsofts money or not is completely irrelevant. The shareholders voted to unload their shares without thinking about replacing Bobby or trying to expand or whatever. Like I said, good or not for AB means nothing. Those with a voice decided it was the right time end it. Perhaps they should have consulted you first.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

On the flip side, it leads to the positive hope that under new management AB might be a less toxic environment for developers and QA staff than it was before.

If nothing, at least we don't hear complaints from any/many MS studios about work place ethics and crunch related issues.

What happened to real gaming news?

What happened to real gaming news?

It died about a couple decades ago when the internet took off and anybody could be a "gaming journalist"
