Polygon COD: Ghosts Review update: (XBONE better version)

No site is to be trusted when it comes to comparing Xbone vs PS4. Especially if the X1 version is the winner! Clearly this is impossible !
LOL exactly. First, digital foundry is awesome. They showed the XB1 version of battlefield 4 looking better than the ps4 version. "oh it was their capture equipment, it can't be trusted!"

Polygon confirms cod looks better on xb1 "oh they can't be trusted!"

Fantastic. Isn't that what the MS people said? It would be much closer than the specs give away?

If you think what Polygon does is bs, don't read it. This incessant need to discredit people because they have an opinion needs to stop.

I will admit, the differences in score is quite interesting because it is no consistent, but there is no policy to dictate such changes in scores.

So uhmm what about that PC score?

Sounds about right. We'll see this time and time again this gen as studios harness the power of the Xbox One's superior architecture to deliver definitive versions of experiences like the best-selling Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Anyone who can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p needs to see an optometrist.

I wear glasses, and I can absolutely tell the difference. It's clear as day. Anyone who can't, please get yourself the help you need. Friends don't let friends review games with bad eyes.

Why? Have you seen them in person?

I havent and I don't need to.

I have a PC and about 500 games on steam. There isn't a single one that looks identical at 720p and 1080p.

Microsoft doesn't have a magic upscaler. In fact, upscaling causes visual issues of its own. Always.

This shit isn't up for debate. We can debate art. You can't debate pixel counts.

Framerate is more important than resolution.

PS4 needs a 720p option. At that res it should certainly have a more solid framerate than the XB1 version.

Every dev needs to offer a 720p option on PS4 unless they are LOCKED at 60fps on 900p/1080p/whatever.

Sure can they give whatever score they want. But we can discuss their score if we want, right?

For example my opinion is: If you're a "gaming journalist" and can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 1080p screen then get yourself a new job!

Yup, I think it's reasonable to expect people who play video games for a career to be able to discern 720 from 1080p. But then again this is Polygon.

I was secretly hoping for this. I love watching the world burn...

I don't trust anything polygon say on technical matters mind. I'd be surprised if the Xbox One version *never* dropped. It'd be the first console COD to do so. But if the framerate on Xbox One is higher, well finally some of the people who already picked that console have something they can point to as a 'win'.

'but what if the Xbox One version is more stable at 720p?' was a baseless refrain for a long time. Now it's getting credence...

Hehehe.

It's no just Polygon to be fair , other sites are saying the same.

Maybe the PS4 version is just shit , for whatever reason.

I'm going to vote with my wallet , everyone else that's seemingly outraged should do the same.

so I'd kinda like to know which reviewer is considered "trustworthy" nowadays, so when they finally review the game, we can put this to rest, no?

seriously, if you are a gamer, it should matter more that COD got such low scores. that's pretty bad for a COD game, even if it's a launch title.

BF4 Xbox one - lower framerate and lower resolution than PS4 version = same score as PS4 version.
Ghosts Xbox one - better framerate and lower resolution than PS4 version = higher score than PS4 version.

Hmm.

I have no issue with the framerate being better on Xbox one (and to me that would make it a slightly better version), but at least use the same logic across other reviews.

this is a travesty. I could give a shit about COD or BF but god damn how openly biased can one be?!

Both games are 1080p. One is upscaled, though. It does muddle the difference some.

I am sure that these journalists mean well, but not seeing a difference between 720p and 1080p? What kind of display does the polygon guy use and how far from it does he sit? Did he actually compare the game with two displays running the ps4 and xbone versions simultaneously?

I know who you are and I appreciate your recent coverage, but if you haven't seen them then you don't have much say in perceived differences between the 2. A Steam library is not qualification. TV, couch, and distance also comes into play here. I don't doubt that there isn't a difference, but that's not what he said. He said he can't see a difference. That isn't a crazy thing to say.

Even if you had, 1 guy is saying he can't see a difference. That isn't "fucking absurd" or whatever you said. This also isn't bias. Man you guys are so hard up on this shit.

Can someone repost that gif showing the CODG XB1 dropped frames?

Failing to mention issues is as bad as making them up. Way to go Polygon.

You're going to believe what you want to believe.

Polygon say it runs better on Xbox One. It looks better on PS4 though. Pick your poison but don't act like this makes every other single fact we have about how multiplatform games perform, and on the hardware specs of both systems, makes the sizable power gap disappear in a puff of artificial sharpening.

Yes, this is just fucking stupid. I have a new and expensive upscaling AVR, and I can easily see the difference between 720p and 1080p even when its movie footage. Games are even more obvious. I just don't get this whole downplay of resolution. If resolution is so meaningless, then why do we even bother with 1080p, let alone 4k. Even online movie rentals are 1080p nowadays. Nobody would spend that significant extra download size if it wasn't worth it.

and yet you have people trying to dismiss this as the reviewer having a different opinion *rolls eyes*

ITT: People that haven't seen CoD running on PS4 and XBO side by side criticize people who have and say the framerate makes the XBO version the better buy.

I got the PS4 version, and mostly for MP, but this thread is funny.

Character customization, maps, dynamic events, weapons, gametypes, and constant 60fps multiplayer framerates are ubiquitous across current- and next-gen platforms.

That's from the IGN review. So yeah, apparently frame-rate drops are also subjective just like resolution.

Nobody can tell you who's trusted until after their review is out, so we know if they got it right*.

* agree with what we think, having not played the game at all

Framerate is more important than resolution.

PS4 needs a 720p option.

Would be interesting if a developer actually made a single player game with a 720p option with increased framerate+effects, just to compare with the 1080p mode. It would create new factions of for and against trolls.

It is apparent tons of people are taking this personally. But for what reason? Who knows...

I think it kinda sucks. I enjoy Polygon mostly and hell I even like Gies but I was hoping they would stop this trollish nonsense. But bam right away it seems they are going full click bait once again. "sigh"

You honestly believe that BF4 looks better on Xbone than PS4 based on that DF coverage? Or are you just willfully ignorant?

But framerate isn't king in a game like DR3.

Seems to be a double standard then. Drops below 20 fps at major points along with a 720p resolution makes me believe that yeah, there are serious performance issues.

Wasnt there multiplayer footage of XB1 Ghosts where the framerate dropped noticeablely when player was just rotating the camera?

Both games are 1080p. One is upscaled, though. It does muddle the difference some.
Upscaling makes little to no difference at all. It's simply a PR term employed to confuse everyone.

1080p will always look superior to a game which is rendered at 720p. This isn't even up for debate.

Higher resolutions are ALWAYS better. There simply are no two ways about it. This is an objective fact.

I don't give a crap about Ghosts but this is just troublesome.

The Battlefield 4 comparison is what genuinely warrants issue with me, but the bigger problem with Polygon is their method of applying numerals to review text.

Seeing all the videos exemplifying X1 frame rate drops too makes the .5 point bump for that version all the more questionable.

Polygon COD Ghosts scores:
PS3/PS4/360 = 6.5
Xbone - 7.0

LOL. So the better graphics only count on the Xbone version? PS4 version equal to PS3 version? LOL. Ok Polygon.

I'd like to see their BF4 scores. Seriously. Their going to have a shit storm on their front porch.
