Polygon PS4 12 hour discussion stream

Polygon wishes people gave a fuck about their personalities as much as people do for real personality driven sites like giantbomb.

I honestly think it's just their dissatisfaction and overwhelming cynicism that makes it nearly impossible to watch.

I enjoyed Samit/Alexa's segment because they were trying the game for the first time, figuring things out, relating to Kollar's review and expressing both positive/negatives. It was a hell of a reprieve from the rest of these guys. Gies looked like he'd rather be anywhere than playing Killzone.

I can't wait until we switch to the Sports titles, and we hear some different voices.

Oh, another "mini-rant?" How surprising!

This stream sounds hilarious.

If someone makes a "best of" compilation of the shit these guys are trying to shovel people and uploads it on youtube ill give it a watch

"WE'RE GOING TO BE HERE FOR THE NEXT 5 HOURS! "

"Oh jesus...." *hand to face*

Just don't do it Polygon, if you relaly hate your job, please just don't stream.

Fucking this.

Was that some sort of attempt at humour from Gies or is he just as bored and irritated by the whole thing as he appears?

All the reasons people enjoy watching Giant Bomb are the same reasons this Polygon stream is utter fucking garbage.

They're saying don't buy a PS4 right now. Unless they the same for Xbox One considering they have 90% of the same games then there's something clearly going on.

Yes, but their reasons aren't that outlandish. The launch lineups for both consoles are pretty meh overall and there really is no reason to rush out and buy a PS4 right now unless you care about exclusives or to just want to upgrade to nextgen.

We will have to wait and see what they say about Xbox, but it is really in the same position. Unless Forza and Dead Rising are so good that you have to buy the console on Day 1, but I doubt that will be the case.

gaming journalism at its best

It is very hard to be a successful gaming site so many turn to trolling and antagonism to get notoriety and hits. This is the case with Polygon. It is important to ignore the sites that do this. It is very easy to do this because there is so many others to visit. I will discuss Polygon in threads but I never go to the site.

It's really dangerous if polygon has any substantial following or influence with the amount of bullshit they spew. Can't really expect them to be objective either when their site making of documentary was funded by Microsoft.

Why are they bothering talking about remote play if all they're going to do is shit on the Vita and provide a list of reasons why you apparently don't need to own one..

You would think that evillore calling one of their 'journalists' (who seems to be the most vocal unfortunately) "disreputable person in the enthusiast press" would be enough to get a site banned. That really needs to happen yo. :/

For Sony's sake I hope PS4 doesn't turn out as bad as TLOS.

U must think Halle berry is ugly

Is there any evidence the Microsoft bribed the writers at Polygon or that Vox has issued a directive to the Polygon team ordering them to favour Microsoft?

Accusing them of this sort of corruption is serious. I'd like to see the evidence. And no, your perception of their bias or this score versus that score isn't evidence. Nor is the fact the MS sponsored their launch. Many journalistic enterprises are ad based and they tend to have firewalls between marketing and content. I want to see direct evidence that money was exchanged for favours. If this evidence doesn't exist, I wish you would all stop accusing them. I know it's HAHA funny for some of you but for people who take their work and integrity seriously this sort of accusation is deeply offensive.

Y isn't that argument valid? If u gave me close to a mil I would be your white knight & your protector against ANYONE. what makes a website any different?

Yeah, it was technically sponsored by Internet Explorer, but if you can explain to me how that "documentary" was a promotion for IE, I'm all ears. The documentary was promoting Polygon and the media personalities involved as they built their new website.

You really need to ask yourself why MS might have an interest in financing a documentary and promoting this one specific gaming website, what they might have hoped to accomplish by doing so, and then look at how Polygon tends to cover MS vs. how they tend to cover Sony. One doesn't have to believe in conspiracy theories to reach the conclusion that something gross is going on.

All else aside, Polygon promoted itself by declaring that it was here to save games journalism, then took a large sum of money from a major game publisher and console manufacturer to make a documentary about themselves. It's unethical by any journalistic standard. You don't take money from the very people you are supposed to be impartially covering.

This answers my 2nd quote as to y this shit is trash. I loved chris grant & the mcelroys from their time at joystiq so I couldn't wait for them to start a new site. I tried hard to stick with them but its not even like they're trying to hide it. And Gies.... is he like 6'8 270 or something? Why doesn't anyone just tell him he's full of shit? Him & McCafferty from IGN have the most biased opinions

Amirox, please stop caring this is not worthy of your time.

Sorry, it is worth my time. Arthur Gies is yet another stain on this industry, and that is always worth my time.

If you guys want to be complacent and act like we should never care, that's on you. I have standards and will always push back for them

I see a lot of people in this thread being introduced to Arthur Gies. :D

He has outdone himself in this. Its almost like they all huddled up before the live stream and said "Ok, we are just going to rip the shit out of this system, the games, the Vita, everything Sony. First one that says anything positive has to give Gies a foot rub.“

Honestly this is just embarassing. My advice? Close this stream and never post in a Polygon thread on GAF. Since most of those threads are everyone bitching about them, if we ignore the thread, it disappears to page 20 and they get no publicity...Simple as that...

Did they just complain that games take too long to get into? Didn't the PS4 games from Sony get rid of all the legal and BS screens and skip installs so they happen during the game? Or am I wrong.

Also, misinformed Vita hate makes me sad.

So many of these complaints apply to the majority of games media. I think we just forget how shamefully bad most of it is.

Cross posting from other thread so people can see what a fucking moron Arthur Gies is:

*sigh*, ok, one more time for the road since I am tired of repeating it :P

He welched on a BET with a GAFer, and then refused to ever come back and pay up. He never returned to GAF. His excuse was he did lose the bet for exactly the reasons said, but for some reason it didn't count because he put the word in "scare quotes."

Evilore called him the most disreputable person in the enthusiast press

Read his whole recap, because it's especially damning.

For months and months Arthur Gies has lashed out at gamers for criticizing the Xbox One. He lashed out at us for calling Adam Orth out on his shit. He constantly, and consistently makes up abject bullshit because he feels like it - beating the drum that Xbox One had some fucking secret component that would help it compete with the PS4. During the Sim City fiasco, he vigorously defended EA to the bitter end. Seriously, read this shit and check out all the links.

The fucking guy is one of the biggest morons ever to grace the enthusiast press.

Yet i wonder why EviLore still refuses to ban Polygon...

He did say, that you're a bad journalist when you spread false information. It's not about the "don't buy it", it's about the "no games"-part because that is certainly not true.

PS4 has no games -> trolling (It has, and anyone who buys it will be entertained)

Also, consoles need people to support them at early stages, so... suggesting not to buy something like that (trolling, trolling, trolling) is a sign of bad journalism

Well this ("no games") is a subjective thing we're talking about here. Guess what isn't subjective? Acting like you're a horrible journalist because you don't "support the industry". In fact that's objectively horrible way to view things.

A quote from this stream: "I can now finally say that I thought the ps3 triggers were rubbish". As if that wasn't possible to say for how many years. And that's the last time I ever use polygon for anything
They mention this in their PS4 review as well. Just...weird.
What's been stopping them from sharing their honest opinion and agreeing with most everyone else that the DS3 triggers/sticks/whatever are kind of bad? It's not... It's baffling. I'm baffled.

Suppose you can expect them to keep bizarre secrets like this about the Wii U and these new consoles as well?

A little more than 24 hours and we'll actually have non-journo gamers live-streaming that we can enjoy. Let Polygon stew in their schadenfreude. I'd rather watch some GAFers play games any day.

The only person in Verge who has any authority to talk about Vita is their Japan-guy, Sam Byford.

Anyone else's opinion is literally invalid to a gaming audience.

It's just ridiculous.

I'm not usually that sensitive about the media "shitting on" one thing over another, and normally I just don't care what any one journalist or publication says about anything. But I'm sat here watching a section of coverage about the Remote Play feature of the PS4, which requires the PlayStation Vita to operate, and have just heard the quote "You don't really need one of these" in regards to the Vita.

What the fuck?

I find it a great way for one to increase their tolerance

I also find it interesting on how they need to mention MS in every sentence they conjure up while ignoring a handful of things for the PS4 that are comparable to things they praise MS for achieving.

There are some people from that website that are not as hard to stomach, so we shouldn't paint everyone with the same brush but the certain few who need to go out of their way to find sometimes baseless faults for their would be 'threat' to their overall subconscious loyalty sadly ruins the whole atmosphere for the website in general, even with some certain good journalist trying their best to maintain its neutral image.

Well at least their web layout is pretty to look at.
:/

Yet i wonder why EviLore still refuses to ban Polygon...

Arthur Gies -isn't- all of Polygon, and even then I'd be against banning them. But the point is, Arthur Gies as a person with any opinions ever worth considering is a non-starter. He is a moron, he will always be a moron, and the more people that realize this the better it is for our industry.

Sorry, it is worth my time. Arthur Gies is yet another stain on this industry, and that is always worth my time.

He really is. He's a smug arrogant wanker that makes up shit in his head that he thinks is "fact" then spits it out.

Arthur adds absolutely nothing of substance to this industry, in a lot of ways he's the embodiment of what's wrong with it.

I see a lot of people in this thread being introduced to Arthur Gies. :D

I've read all about him and his failures right here on gaf, but I had never seen him on camera. Is it just me or does this guy have a terrible attitude (at least the few minutes I watched this past hour) it's like he doesn't even want to be there. Is this a normal attitude from him?

I love the Verge, but Ross' and David's complaints about load times are silly. Wait until they have to start installing XB1 games...

He doesnt, he wants a comfy community manager job at MS.

Because Gies isn't all of Polygon, and they've got great people

Odd, though, how pretty much all of them seemed to have the same opinion.
