It's not about the characters per se, but the business relationship.

Marvel would like to be able to use some of the characters that Fox owns the film rights to. They would also like a larger share of merchandising.

Fox knows this, and instead of working with marvel they've been doing some really shitty things just to keep the rights to characters. The last FF movie is an example of a really terrible film deal made almost certainly just to keep the rights to those characters, even though the product was bad. this ALMOST happened with Daredevil and Ghost Rider years ago, but they weren't able to put something together to keep those rights and they reverted.

This damages the brand, and marvel isn't happy about that. The Fantastic Four used to be a flagship franchise for them and is now basically without value after back to back to back mediocre to downright bad movies.

On top of this, the marvel comics CEO (Perlmutter) is known to be extremely unreasonable and difficult to work with for everyone, not just fox. So the relationship between those two has gotten worse, not better even as everyone is making more money from the film property.

Recently there's been a realignment since Disney purchased marvel. the film and comic CEOs now report to the head of disney separately, and we've seen more deals work out between Fox and Marvel.
 
I'd hope they get the SFV composer back on board. Nothing personal against Hideyuki Fukasawa, since his good stuff was really good (Dr. Strange, Nova, Doom and Spider-Man's themes/arrangements being standouts), but the bad stuff was straight basura (Morrigan, Cap Am, Iron Man, Ryu...)

SFV's was a lot better across the board, at least for the base roster. The weakest tracks were unsurprisingly from Fukusawa.
 
No X-Men at all? That's gonna be weird. I wonder if Spider Man will make the cut since Marvel is now involved? Also, I hope this comes to PC. If not, I may actually cave for a cheap/used console.

EDIT; Where is that one guy with his lists when you need him? What will this look like, guy? You know who you are.

Spider-Man rogue gallery all up in this would be many types of wonderful. As would someone like Kang, Ultron, Leader, even Zemo as a *shudder* sword guy.

Would miss Doom and that's more because he is hilarious as a concept. The constant 3rd person is fan-damn-tastic. Only one man would sit in his chair to kill you/watch you shower, stand up after killing you, then sit down in his chair immediately afterwards.

I got into fighting games in 2013, so I never understood why people were so upset about the X-men, but now that I really think about what Marvel Vs Capcom is and how it came about, it actually is depressing. Max did a really good job of explaining that, I agree.

Would suck if X-men do release but as DLC characters that would guarantee money being made off the DLC. Im already at the acceptance phase because i just want to see the game already.
 
Y'all know you're going to buy each and every X-Men DLC character they drop.You're gonna pick up that Wolvie for $10 and Cyclops for $10. You'll get that Storm and Mango Sentinel combo pack for $19 on sale and you know for a fact you'll get that Doom for $15 because it'll come with 5 additional colors.

That's if Capcom's able to renegotiate the contract they signed with Marvel.

I'd personally love to see someone from BoF3 (Rei!), but Fou-Lu was specifically namedropped as someone who was considered for MvC3, so I'd wager he has a high chance.

Would be cool, too. Between the lightsaber and dragon transformations, they could make him a really neat character.
 
Wolverine is going to be sorely missed if they are really axing all Mutant characters. I hope they can find a replacement that will have a similar feel.

They could forego the X-Men and the SF cast in the base game, and later release a XSF expansion. That would rake in money like crazy.

Think of lots of cute characters ... like 30 capcom characters fighting each other in stages based on capcom games full of capcom references.... think a vs game you could play with your kid, your wife, your super drunk friends ! And then you go like "you see this super ? this is a reference to Alien vs Predator an awesome game let me show you" and then everyone loves the classics and the world is at peace
 
Okay with no Xmen and put the blame squarely on FOX. That said they had better double the fuck down on the crazy from both Capcom and Marvel franchises to make up for it.

It’s not like it is in Street Fighter V where you can become successful by adding in waifus. If you screw someone over in the Mahvel community, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the MvC community, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Marvel versus Capcom 4, nor will watch any of Marvel's shitty MCU movies. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Marvel has alienated an entire market with this move.

As someone who got into Marvel through the Xmen, both cartoon and games, I totally understand people who are upset if they aren't included. But there are plenty of other interesting Marvel characters that this opens up spots. If they're just sourcing movie characters 1 for 1 I'll be pretty de-hyped too but if this opens up spots for more obscure characters I'll happily make that trade.

Black Panther too. The others are longshots.

Monica and America both deserve spots though. One can turn into light and the other punches holes in dimensions. Their power sets would make for cool as shit moves and they're both great characters.

Game's gonna have support. Time to let some characters go. It's sad but it seems like it must be done for a mahvel 4. I'm for it.
