This is rarely brought up, but both Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 had rosters that were evenly divided into Standard, Technical, Speed, and Power type characters.

UMvC3 had the perfect Resident Evil line-up to me, with each character covering a completely different gameplay niche. Chris was Standard, Wesker was Technical, Jill was Speed, and Nemesis was Power. I’d hate to see any of them cut.

I'd love for this to happen, but it probably won't be the case. A good chunk of the casting choices for the cartoons, Ultimate Spider-Man aside, was done with emulating the MCU in mind (Ex: They ditched Rocket's Cockney accent to be more in line with the MCU).

There's some hope for X Men in Marvel 4 after all.

Lupinko has in fact teased Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Cable and Magneto in his tweets though. I kinda assumed it was like a RIP in peace kinda teases but who knows at this point.

He should be, but I'd say that puts him in a weird spot. He's super prominent in the comics right now, and was a major player in Secret Wars (so gdlk, Hickman come back).

As much as I wouldn't want her to push Kamala or Carol out of a slot, there is a strange lack of Spider-Gwen in these lists I keep seeing people make for characters likely to be in. It's impossible to ignore the poush Marvel is giving her. I would maybe expect a Silk alt as silk might not be a choice for a separate character, but Gwen is super popular even if just through marketing.

If this does indeed happen and Kamala, Gwen and Carol aren't in the roster I would be astounded and baffled.

I mean, Spider-Gwen doesn't really do things that differently compared to Spider-Man in terms of fighting style. At least Miles has the Venom Sting & invisibility. I could see Spider-Gwen being an alternate costume for Peter. But unless Capcom gets really creative with Spider-Gwen, I'm not sure if she'll be her own character.

Dunno where I stand on the X-Men thing with so much conflicting and vague information. If Marvel was able to push before, and Marvel Games is more collaborative than ever in their new console strategy which starts with Spider-Man PS4 next year, maybe they will bend to the demands of Capcom, and I know people like Combo will push for this sort of thing.

Honestly, as conflicting, vague AND as much of a wild goose chase as they can be, I'm inclined to give credence to lupinko's tweet(s) over pretty much any other source. Max agrees and amidst all the X-Men teases on his twitter, lupinko retweeted him. Maybe this is even one of the surprises that Geek and SnakeSlashRO are alluding to, but keeping to themselves so that it catches people off-guard on Saturday.

I'm kinda 50/50 right now. I want the mutants to come back more than anything, but the odds of that seem slim if Capcom started development in 2015. And while I respect Combofiend a great deal, I'm not sure anyone left at Capcom can push hard enough to get Marvel Entertainment to budge (& the one person who could, Seth Killian, is now under Riot's payroll).

Thinking more about the announcement, and I think that MvC4 is going to be first announced during the PSX keynote. I think having the announcement of the game itself occur at 1am EST, which is when the SFV Capcom Cup is scheduled to run until, is kinda late to have a big announcement like that, especially when there is going to be a big, promoted press conference just mere hours earlier.

This is similar to what they did for SFV, where the game was announced during PSX, then had its 'gameplay' debut after that year's Capcom Cup.
