Which is your main gaming platform and why?

Xbox Series X is still my main platform but to a lesser degree than a few years ago. Since Microsoft is moving away from both physical media and exclusives, Game Pass is the only reason to own an Xbox now. I use my PS5 more than ever and tend to buy multplats for it instead of Xbox.

But why a pool though ? Isn't it dangerous to play in a pool with a wired console ?

We need a guinea pig

Completely randomized pick.....

Right now PC is amazing because of Valve, freedom and the portables.

PC

- Because I get Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Epic, GOG on the same device.

Plus emulators and mods.

And because I don't have to wait 4-8 years to upgrade and can choose how to upgrade.

I still hate WASD controls though…. Worst control method invented. Unfortunately it's a necessary evil when I want mouse aiming.

My oldest and I are playing Dark Souls coop on PC right now. He's played through the game ten times. It is actually really easy if you have someone guiding you who has memorized damn near everything about the game.
I have heard that to be the case. Maybe I would actually enjoy the game if I tried that!

Xbox only since 2023

-Gamepass
-Best controller
-Over 1200 owned games
-imho, they make the best games
-great BC (but could havr been better)
-best UI
-they have great curators and thus often the best timed exclusives
-best goodies like fps boost, autohdr, best VRR
-my gaming buddies are mostly on xbox or pc

I mean, if you look at sheer hours, it's definitely PC. Diablo 2 and Ultima Online combined is thousands of hours on PC.

although lately, I've pretty much only been playing Switch 2 since the Switch 2 came out.

Hooked on MKW and TOTK (again)

As if you can't use an adaptor to use it on PS and Switch?

Didn't know that was a thing. But I don't play Nintendo games, and I use the DualSense Edge with my PS5 Pro, and it was designed with those first party PS games in mind (including the trackpad), so I am fine with those few I do play on there.

Right now PC is amazing because of Valve, freedom and the portables.

PC grew substantially since last gen. 10 years ago, the most popular GPU in PCs was Intel integrated graphics per Steam hardware survey. Now dedicated graphics dominate. Gaming landscape has changed dramatically over the last decade.

Consoles are more often optimized because of the fixed hardware
In recent years, I have not had any issues with unoptimized games on PC. If you have a high end PC, you can usually brutal force everything or use mods to clean things up.

I have not had any issues that I could not resolve quickly on my own or wait it out for a patch.

PC for the following reasons:
  • It's the most flexible of all gaming platforms with regard to graphical settings, mods and control schemes.
  • I don't have to pay to play online.
  • Most games are cheaper.
  • It supports backwards compatibility for all generations (and emulation is easier than ever).
I fully acknowledge that PC gaming is not for everyone though, it just suits my needs perfectly. I also play on other platforms like PS5 and Switch 2, but PC is my primary.

If we go back in time for the gaming devices we owned, my single device that I owned that had the most play:

  • Commodore 64
  • TRS-80
  • Commodore 128
  • Atari 2600
  • Atari 5200
  • SNES
  • PSP 3000
  • Sega Genesis
  • PlayStation 1
  • PlayStation 2
  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation 4
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox
  • Xbox 360
  • Xbox One
  • Xbox Series

Atari 5200. I ran that thing into the ground, and no device that I have owned has had a much play time from me than that.

And? More optimized just means it can extract more of the hardware. That doesn't mean it will have better performance and graphics.

-Best controller
-imho, they make the best games
-they have great curators and thus often the best timed exclusives
-best goodies like fps boost, autohdr, best VRR
-Also on PC and other consoles with adaptor.
-Almost all of them better on PC.
-All better on PC.
-All better on PC.
🤷‍♂️

Variety of prebuilt and self-built PCs throughout

Currently, Xbox, despite having all three (well, Switch 1 af least). This is mainly due to the fact that I have Game Pass through the remainder of this year and more of my friends are still on Xbox rather than PlayStation.

However, I've been gradually buying any multiplatform games I want to ensure I keep long term on PlayStation and I won't buy any games digitally on Xbox because there's too many questions about the future of Xbox platforms.

After this generation, I don't see myself buying any Xbox hardware again, whatever form that may take.

It's probably split pc and xbox, maybe leaning xbox.

I like that I can do play anywhere thanks to xbox / gamepass across pc and xbox so I can play at work on my lunch.

Switch gets a lot of attention followed by ps5 which is for exclusives.

Then meta quest 3 etc

I prefer playing on PC. Since companies like Sony started censoring their games I stopped buying none exclusive games on Playstation. On PC I can install modes and play old games on private servers.

PC as my wife, because I grew up with it and I am a strategy game lover (especially RTS).
Nintendo is my mistress.

Had a hot, romantic fling with PS2, though. Mostly because of FF11 and FF2.
Also had a romantic fling with the OG Xbox, mostly because of Halo 1 and 2, which I played at Link Parties.

Neither my mistress nor my wife knew about those, tho.

The rest were one-night stands.

I have heard of that, but never had the pleasure.

IBM's failed attempt to take on Commodore in the 80s. I won one at a store auction. Damn thing was $999 even back then so winning one is the only reason I had it. It failed because IBM didn't make it fully PC compatible. They didn't want folks buying PCjr instead of regular IBM PCs because it was cheaper. So it was discontinued a year or so after launch.

just as in democracy.

Goddamn we got some Father Times up in this place.

PC. You can play Playstation & Xbox games on it, even Nintendo if your moral compass is flexible enough.

Like the old L'Oréal ad goes... "Because I'm worth it".

Xbox

  • I own 800+ digital Xbox games
  • I prefer the controller
  • I game share with my son so he can play all my games from his house for no cost to him
  • All my friends and relatives have Xbox
Same on everything (not 800 games though). Also for some reason I always seem to find other players online no matter how old or niche the game I'm playing is.
