For what is a mostly American forum this is a damning indictment

If you suggested things would get this bad back in the 360 days you'd have been burned for at the stake for heresy

If this is how bad it is in America, just think how bad it is in Europe and Asia

is American

PC because biggest and best library and better at everything else too

You forgot the best part…. Upgeadable RAM and GPU…. And kick ass cases with imposing designs and Cool LED.

PCs are just cool in general. Especially if you learn to build them yourself. I always say you gotta start with a good motherboard though.

And because I don't have to wait 4-8 years to upgrade and can choose how to upgrade.
God I used to love PCs upgrades. You whole beloved games library gets insta upgraded af. More fps, higher res (CRT), higher gfx settings, faster load times. And you get to decide when.

Though now my current i7 4970K PC is 11 years old and still does everything I need flawlessly, aiming for at least another 5 years! Wait I got a new 250€ RX6600 and sold my 970GTX for 100€ a few years ago. That was a nice lil upgrade, but I seldomly enjoy the big production games these days, that's not where the innovation tends to be anymore.

Main platform over the last 2 years has been Switch and Switch alone. Owned a Deck that I played GTA and SoT on but sold after 5 or 6 months. Own a PS5 at the moment but it's just an Apex machine.

Something about the Switch and fatherhood, they are a match made in heaven. Nintendo's games give me a lot of joy.

Not picked up a Switch 2 yet, must say the battery life and LCD are underwhelming.

Right now, for me, friends list is the deciding factor. As my Xbox playing friends drop off, I migrate more towards PlayStation. If Microsoft really is trying to obliterate physical media, that will also tip the scales. If I had to guess, it's already a 55/45 split between Xbox and PlayStation being used in my house, so my "primary" system switching to PlayStation probably isn't that far off.

I have a feeling that next gen's cross gen period is going to be ludicrously long so I'm contemplating swapping my PS5 for a PS5 Pro and coasting along with it for the next several years. When that cross gen period reaches its end, I'll look at the state of the market and decide whether or not to go pure PC or invest in another console.

PC is awesome and i play some genres like RTS on it or some GOG releases.

But i always had a soft spot for PlayStation so i end up playing more on Sony consoles.

PC for the last three years (7600x, 9070xt). Used to be PS and Xbox, but my Ps5 Pro collects dust and I sold my Halo Series X a few months after release. With the continued release of PC handhelds, consoles just continue to make less sense.

Probably going to sell the Pro but i'm torn because of memories growing up. Paying for subs no longer interests me on console. So decision time soon.

Kids run a Switch OLED.

last real console xbox360
now 100% PC, and 90% PSP emulation on it in this last year;
i missed a lot of titles back then, awesome catalogue, i'm liking it a lot more than PS2

If I'm going to make time to play, it's more than likely Switch, because I have a backlog that's crazy.

For "big boy" gaming, PS5 if I have some time. Playing DOOM Dark Ages currently.

PC is my go-to but I also get pretty much anything Nintendo on the side for both nostalgic purposes and because theyre the only ones not porting 50-100% of their newer titles to my PC

PC

Mods
Keyboard and Mouse controls for shooters
Ultrawide resolutions
I am not limited to one kind of gamepad or steering wheel (or any other peripheral)
True 18+ games
True BC (unless the OS has killed a game and there are no fan patches available)
Steam refund policy

I always play on whatever platform offers highest quality of experience (graphics, framerate, mods). So, for the past 30 years, PC.

Playstation, and the reason is the high price of GPU parts. It used to be the case that in the mid of a generation, any 200~250 GPU could handily outperform consoles, sadly that won't seem to happen anymore.

The PS5 used to be my main system. I enjoyed playing smooth, patched PS4 games at 60fps. But when I heard that A Plague Tale: Requiem and Gotham Knights would run at 30fps, especially after Richard Leadbetter from Digital Foundry commented on it, I thought the 60fps trend was ending.
Over two years ago, I switched to a gaming PC, first with a 7900X and RTX 4090. Gaming at 120fps with better textures and lighting was amazing. I've recently upgraded to a 9800X3D and RTX 5090FE, playing on an 85-inch TV. I've left console gaming behind and can now play both PS5 and Xbox titles that are ported to PC. Nintendo (Switch) games still make my heart beat faster, but I've also moved on from Nintendo. I had a Switch for a while, but it was just collecting dust. I am a Apple fanboy but for Gaming I use Windows 11.

PC.

I used to be mainly on PlayStation, though I always had a PC on the side for some flexibility. But everything changed once I truly experienced high frame rates, uncapped performance, and the freedom to tweak every setting to my liking

Console gaming started to feel limited by comparison. Now, PC is my primary platform

That said… the PS5 Pro looks very tempting. I've been dying to play Demon's Souls and Death Stranding 2

As if console prices didn't go up too especially some Pro consoles??

PS.

Dating back to the PS1, I've always found their hardware to be solid and reliable. In terms of games, I buy physical so that's another benefit too. As well, PS has always had my taste in games covered.

Yes, but I don't need a pro console, and if I want an upgrade, it still way cheaper to buy the pro rather than build a PC with similar specs. For the price I paid on my PS5 in my country, the best I can get on PC is a RTX 4060 8Gb, just the GPU.

You don't need the latest and most expensive GPU too. PC hardware prices always were higher than consoles so nothing changed in that regard.

PC 95% of the time.

One huge one in the gaming room, one small form factor connected to the TV and one Steam Deck.

Also a switch 2 and a Ps5 pro for the few times games comes out that's not on PC.
No need for Xbox because it's all on PC.

This is the first generation since ive been gaming I havent seen a need for a console.
There are no exclusives I NEED to play day one....MP games are Multiplat and ill have a better experience on PC.
The actual library of games is absolutely massive, my backlog is miles long.
Only own a Series S cuz I needed something I could easily lug around and/or use for mini-LAN parties with my nieces and nephews.
(Ohh and also for BC I was an OGX/X360/XB1 owner)

Counterpoint:-

  • Pretty much all the popular SplitScreen games run however you want on PC.
  • Even custom builds are childs play to setup....if its a prebuilt its as easy as consoles.
  • This isnt the 90s, driver issues and BSODs affecting games are barely worth mentioning (literally why any driver issues make the news cycle, they are so rare people panic)
  • Every Controller works on PC with all the new features and more because you can install third party support for whatever feature you want(want Gyro aim in a game that doesnt support it? Theres an App for that)
  • Gets all the big games and emulation is a thing.
I did say 'best place to play' not that it doesn't work on PC. Everything else you mentioned also just works without the hassle on consoles. It's fine you like it though.

No hassle, it's already connected to a huge TV and works flawlessly. Don't need the pain of trying to use a PC on a TV as monitors are too small for it.
Very painful to plug an HDMI cable to a TV, wow, and get better everything of the PC version.
