Pop is a national treasure. Completely nailed it. Displayed the empathy and grace to explain it perfectly. And the NBA has been 1000000% better on these issues than any other league. It's the one league that probably swings more left compared to the NFL/MLB, and I'm not sure on the NHL (though I think it'd be closer the NBA's side of things with all those Canadians).
I don't think that's the case. Anyone that gets the chance to ask Pop a question knows the man he is.
That's a beautiful interview. The Spurs are lucky to have such a great head coach.
Much better take than Mike Ditka's from a few days back.
Wow, he spoke this much during an interview?
Anyway, spot on.
No reporter is stupid enough to try that on Pop, he'd bury themNice try, reporter guy. Hoping for a hot take, got an education.
I love Pop as he embodies many of the reasons why I adore the Spurs organization even as someone who lives in Costa Rica and has never set foot in San Antonio. Not only have they delighted me with basketball greatness during the last 20 years but they have also taught me so many life lessons through moments like these that I have lost count. This probably tracks my top 5 things hes done
Took the Spurs as a team to the Holocaust museum.
Toom tame out of NBA finals prep to let Patty Mills discuss the Austrilian holiday mentioned above.
Made assisant coach Mike Brown skip a road trip to spend more time with his kids after a recent divorce.
Held out Tim Duncan from the playoffs after an injury becaise it was the right thing to do.
The laundry list of suppoet he gave Monty Williams after his wifes tragic car accident left him a single dad.
The donation he gave to the Food Bank in San Antonio so they could start a garden.
Donationing enough to the Boys &Girls club here in SA so they could open another chapter.
Let's not pretend he hasn't thought about this, though. That was his off the cuff response? Goddamn.
