Portable console screenshot thread (3DS/Vita) - Rules in OP

Any games in particular you want shots of?

Wait what? When did they ease up on the compression?
I have no idea. Someone in some thread said they did but I never tested it, sorry if it was wrong.

3D Land Pics

Such a gorgeous game! Late 2014/Early 2015 60fps 3D Land 2 please!

I'm loving 3D World but there are times when the design philosophy of 3D Land shows through a little too much and it can be harder than it needs to be to judge a jump. 3D Land was made for stereoscopic 3D.

I forgot I had this game. Some quick shots from Dynasty Warrior Next:

A snap of a frame in the opening movie:

Rest is in-game

Shots are a bit sloppy, but there you go.

And a MegaMan reference (Mega Hombre, the other guy in the poster). There are a ton of video game shout outs in Guacamelee.

I've been meaning to get that game for months but at the last minute I always end up getting something else. I know I'd love the game but something always stops me.

Too many games run at sub-native resolution constantly on the Vita. In the future if developers are feeling the crunch of the Vita's hardware they should at least shoot for adaptive resolution and force native when not moving (like Killzone: Mercenary's single-player, the multiplayer is always native).

While games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss look fine on the Vita' screen, screenshots always look terrible because the game only runs at 1/8HD instead of the Vita's native qHD.

Was hoping on having a few more good ones in my collection for titles like JSR, Castlestorm, PSASBR, SSD, Fifa, LBP, Touch My Katamari, Fl0w, Lumines etc but I don't want take quick shots to fill up the thread, nicer if we get interesting shots I think.

You're going to love it! Also the game has some fantastic lighting

Seeing as it only came out a month ago you might wanna spoiler tag these final boss and ending spoilers. I haven't even started it yet but now i know how it ends.....or maybe Im wrong....

Isn't the Vita still up there with the best considering it's size?

Not even close. The Vita is quite large which I think is for heat (your hands get very hot while gaming on a slim phone). It has the same GPU as the third gen iPad while the much more powerful iPad Air basically has the same GPU as the iPhone 5S (maybe clocked slightly higher). The iPad 3 only had two CPU cores (same cores, clockspeeds were probably similar if not higher on the iPad) while the Vita has four, but that shouldn't make up for the huge increase in performance the newest iOS devices running A7 has. I used iOS devices because they have used similar GPUs, but the performance i high end devices with Qualcomm SoCs should also easily beat the Vita.

That is the disadvantage of a 5 year lifespan. Mobile chips have made huge progress lately with the Cortex A9 in the Vita not being used in hardly any device because the Cortex A7 is much more efficient and nearly as powerful and soon there'll be the Cortex A53 which is as powerful as the A9 in a cheaper (smaller die), uses less power and is 64bit. It can't replace the Vita CPU though because it isn't identical just like the much more efficient upcoming AMD Puma cores can't replace the XBone and PS4 Jaguar cores.

But the Vita has the same advantage as the bigger consoles. The vita has specific hardware that can be optimized much better than a game made for a variety of iOS platforms and Androids.

Gravity Rush is just the best and perfect game for the vita. its unbelievable what accomplishment the devs have done with this piece or art.

loved it so much and have plenty of shots of this game.

Doesn't help that much when the difference is this big.

Red is same GPU as the Vita. The console optimization has also been blow a bit out of proportion. A high end GPU from 2006-2007 has no problem playing console ports at console settings unless the game was very poorly ported. Remember that nearly all are 720p and 30fps which is unheard of on a PC.

Crysis 3 on an 8800GTX. I'd love to find high end parts from that era and do benches myself.

The Vita hardware is still pretty good, all things considered. By this point it's definitely not top of the line, but current high end chips are maybe 50% faster and that advantage is wiped out by the need to drive much higher resolutions (1080p is 4x the pixels of 544p) and target the lower end hardware.

It'll be a while yet before we see Vita-quality games on the mobile, if ever thanks to budget constraints.

Yup, which is a completely moot point considering most Vita games look better than anything on mobile, even the most high end.

Wow, God Eater 2 looks great. Am I missing much if I play it without having played the first? Google tells me it's a direct sequel but with a new protagonist...

Seriously, I know ending scenes usually show some good/pretty parts of games but they should really be spoiler tagged >_> I'm still waiting for the game to arrive but this should be a rule for every game (old and new).
