Portable console screenshot thread (3DS/Vita) - Rules in OP

well this is a screenshot thread and I can only comment on what I actually see here in this thread, and not on what I COULD be seeing on the vita instead.
And all I see is a bunch of blurry images, occasional interrupted by games that aren't sub native (edit:) or compressed beyond recognition.
I just can't stand interpolation. For the past 7 years I had to endure ps360s shitty sub native shenanigans, and now thanks to the vita this shit also made it's entry into handheld space. I really don't see why the vita should get away with this stuff when on the other hand the same people constantly complain about 3ds's many shortcomings.

sry for the rant, I try to ignore blurry vita shots from now on.

There are Vita owners that complain about subnative games.

Terraria Vita:

And yeah, Vita games look infinitely better on the screen, than they do in screenshots. The color saturation is often very washed out in the screens as well. "Notoriously" jagged games like Uncharted and Gravity Rush look really, really good on the 5" screen, with colors that pop. Like these Terraria screens, on the Vita, it's insanely sharp and crisp. These screens look like ass on the other hand.

While it's certainly not too "crisp" on the 3DS screen, screenshots of 3DS games also look like ass. Best viewed on the 3DS itself.

I highly recommend everyone with + (at least in the EU) go grab Sonic Racing Transformed. It's a really, really good game.
It may not be that much of a looker, but it is native res and it has moments when the colours just pop in a way that is very hard to capture.

And a bit of killzone for good measure :-)

Yeah, it's just the way it is for both handhelds. My boss brought in his 3DS the other day, and I was playing a little bit of Fire Emblem. It looked great on the 3DS screen. I'll probably be picking up my own 3DS next month. New year, new gaming budget!

I pretty much killed my gaming budget this year. Got way more stuff than I budgeted for, and still didn't get everything I wanted.

Let me put it this way, try to zoom in on the 3ds shots until they take up as much space on screen as the vita shots. It'll add blurriness and aliasing for sure.

Native res on vita games is nicer than sub, but it doesn't play as much havoc on the graphics as the aliasing in the screenshots makes it look like.

Both these games are augmented reality games, and both are extraordinarily bad.

The Vita can 'get away with it' because the games generally look a generation ahead of the 3DS. I'll take sub-native all day every day over stuff like Luigi's Mansion 2 where the jaggies could be used to cut through tempered steel.

I'd rather cut myself with any jaggies than see games like i'd have myopia. native resolution above everything else.

That's what I thought the general consensus was, I mean have you seen MH4, looks like colorful digitized vomit on a low res screen

Well then, procced with the cutting

Eh, cool. To each his own. I think the shots in here speak for themselves, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I should probably take some more snaps later.

I'm surprised at how bad Fire Emblem looks. Perhaps they're just a bad selection of shots posted, but I look at them and think 'fuck that'.

There are some shots of Gravity Rush that are Native Res....Not sure how or where they came from but it looks soo good.

Oh, I had no idea Gravity Rush wasn't native res. It's the only game I've played on Vita, and my Vita impressions were "annoying loading time, shitty motion comic, surprising bad jaggies". Playing the Gravity Rush demo killed my interest in the Vita.

I like both consoles for their pro's and con's, but for me native res is vital. Just like a lot of guys here, i'm burned with sub-native games on the 360. It's not as visible on a tiny screen, but it distracts my mind. Instead of playing i'm mostly thinking what they could sacrifice to up the resolution a bit.

Nah the game looks bad, the no feet crap makes it even worse.

Not debating the shortcomings of subnative, but Vita really has such a minimal contribution to this space that you can't point fingers at the device influence. Especially when it's completely standard practice to release subnative games nowadays on handheld devices that are 100x-1000x more popular (iOS & Android), and we're often talking about games that are still stuck in 90s in terms of processing requirements, so it's not even because hw-can't deal with them...

That said - subnative argument has always been blown out of proportion though on Vita - even this thread shows majority of games are still-native (but the OS-screenshot quality is still poor even with native titles).

This thread really gives the wrong impression to people without hands-on experience with either console. The screens look like garbage compared to the real thing, specially on Vita.

Would someone be kind enough to take direct feed images of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 on the Vita? The screenshot feature is disabled for this game...

The biggest load time is when they're loading up the entire world, like that's a surprise it would take awhile. Some missions take a bit to load but they're only annoying when you have to re-do a mission. It doesn't use motion comics - they're static. And they look damn good.

Looking through this thread it shows that the 3DS looks like trash against the Vita. I honestly didn't know it was that far of a gap.

Can i be brutally honest?
Main character apart environments don't look that better than psp games imo.

This for example is Silent Hill Origins for PSP

Annoying loading times? If you have to redo a challenge yes, otherwise there are no loadings in the entire game world.
Shitty motion comics? Those are one of the best things ever!

Akiba's Trip 2
Finally some vita screens!

Truly those are the worst (no offence for making them) Revelations screens to be shown. The game has really magnificent graphics. Could someone make screens of:
1. The plane wreckage
2. Dining Hall (with the mist)
3. the promenade deck
4. casino
5. Final boss on the queen zenobia.

Man, I now understand why the game has some drops of frame rates here and there. This world is damn huge despite being linear.

And those Akibas Strip ss look good. Shame as this game has a low chance of getting localized.

Actually, in the last four pages, I counted 11 sub-native games and 23 native res games being shown...so...yeah. You see what you want to see, apparently. In addition, MANY of us Vita owners hate that there is as many sub-native Vita games as there are, so it's not this thing that goes ignored.

Bugger, meant to get some Rainbow Moon shots at lunch.

Yeah, I remember the first Vita OTs when people were posting their screens... they weren't happy. Eventually everyone came to the conclusion that quoting the images was about the best representation (without going to crazy stupid lengths to manipulate the image).

My point is... after all this hardware hype there shouldn't be a single one. And yet here we are.

Akiba's Trip 2

Games like these are always kinda fascinating to me and also serve as time capsules.
Fun fact: the "blue" building on the right is long gone (at least since june '13.)
Judging from that shot it's already being prepared for demolition.

My point is... after all this hardware hype there shouldn't be a single one. And yet here we are.

It was hyped as a portable PS3, it couldn't handle PS3 games easily so most developers took the "lower resolution" route to keep a lot of the lighting, shaders and textures in. I would prefer a native resolution over the PS3-like textures, lighting and shaders, but as time has gone on, less and less games render below the native resolution of the display.

My problem was you made it out like the vast majority of Vita games are sub-native res, when it's simply not the case.

Got these 2 as PS+ freebies this week.

Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed

Sonic hasn't shown up on the Canada store yet, hopefully this isn't some weird thing where we aren't getting it.

And lastly, a game that haunts every Vita (at native res too :P).

Someone needs to make a game out of that skateboarding demo, I was surprised at how well it worked when I played it wayy back after getting my Vita.

There are some shots of Gravity Rush that are Native Res....Not sure how or where they came from but it looks soo good.

It was initially intended to be a PS3 game, so maybe those screens could be from that version? Or most likely they're just bullshots lol

The colours are insane. The only other way to experience something like this is a MDMA/Psilocybin trip... Just sooo saturated, but you gotta play this on the OLED...
The only problem is the framerate sometimes doesn't go along to well with the game

Liking the look of Galaxy Force II.

Sonic does have some really crazy looking levels. Framerate isn't perfect but for most of the levels it's not a problem - usually around the water parts. Quite big drops on two tracks but only short straight sections, those aren't the issue. That Ages track becomes pretty tough with the super narrow corners and twisting downhill with no sides and holes in the floor lol. That's a bit too crazy with 8 racers. Otherwise the framerate isn't bad and the game is really great fun on Vita. Heard it wasn't too different from the console versions.

DBZ Demo: (actually has cloud shadows on the floor lol). Looks and plays awesome.

Terraria:

Need to get an OLED laptop.

Runner 2 looks great on the Vita, loving it as much as the original, maybe time will see me love it more? Triple perfect+ on the first few levels so far, cant wait for the difficulty to ramp up!

Unless you're new to Plus, or it was not announced for Canada PS Plus, the game will be a Plus freebie by next week or the last week of December.
