Portable console screenshot thread (3DS/Vita) - Rules in OP

You're going to love it! Also the game has some fantastic lighting!

^(ALBW spoilers)
Are you seriously blatantly spoiling the final boss fight of a brand new game in here?

He found funny this Makar (Wind Waker) reference on A Link Between Worlds:

Yeah, important to be wary of spoilers when posting imagery. Added a rule.

Is there a community up now or are these screenshots from other sources?

Community is now up. Took those myself.

I spent some time catching up on my streetpass battles in Fire Emblem, partially as an excuse to post to the Fire Emblem Miiverse community. Apparently I live near some weirdos.

Checked my Vita for screenshots to post, and they're all Persona 4 Golden's humourous character lines and reactions. I feel I probably shouldn't post them for fear of spoiling someone else discovering them.

I have to say though, this thread really highlights just how damn good we have it with handheld consoles at the moment.

Ys: Memories of Celceta. Blurry and sub-native res it might have been, but I really appreciated the draw distance and being able to actually see places I'd be visiting much later spread out in the horizon. Game had a lot of landscapes like this and I loved it.

Dragon's Crown. 'Cause the first time you ride your "very own" sabertooth tiger is quite unforgettable, lol.

Looking through this thread it shows that the 3DS looks like trash against the Vita. I honestly didn't know it was that far of a gap.

Doesn't help that much when the difference is this big.

Red is same GPU as the Vita. The console optimization has also been blow a bit out of proportion. A high end GPU from 2006-2007 has no problem playing console ports at console settings unless the game was very poorly ported. Remember that nearly all are 720p and 30fps which is unheard of on a PC.

Crysis 3 on an 8800GTX. I'd love to find high end parts from that era and do benches myself.

Advantages for Vita:
- No one develops games only for iPAD Air. Market is mixed with iPad2, iPad4, mini etc. They need games to run on all ipads
- Vita games can be as large as 4GB. They can use sharp textures and not worry about storage.
- Resolution is only 540p. Huge advantage for games, as they dont have to worry too much about scaling, AA etc
- OS. Vita OS gives fixed memory for games. No need to co-exist with a open browser and email client etc. You dont have to worry about run time memory allocation non-sense

Most importantly.... it has real buttons and analog stick !!!

There's a gap between them but the best looking 3DS games (Revs, LM2, and MH3G) don't have screenshots posted.

True. All three of those games look AMAZING on my OG 3DS - especially with the 3D turned on.

EDIT: And holy crap at that KZ:M rock shot. I'm starting to wish I had bought it now when it was on that Black Friday deal for $19.99. I just don't like FPS on consoles and handhelds which was my main holdup. Now I'm wishing I had it just for the graphical glory. :(

we must be looking at different threads than..

seriously, the image quality on most of those vita shots is appalling.
I still can't get over that. at least the 3ds shots are sharp as fuck. developers who can't get their games running at native resolution should burn in hell

The Aliasing you see in vita shots is generally not present on the 5 inch screen even if it's not native res, keep that in mind....

Well, keep in mind that the Vitas screen is much smaller than the images displayed on your computer screen. I'd argue that even subnative Vita games look sharper than 3DS games.
Uncharted, while looking horrible on screenshots, looks actually pretty nice in motion on the Vita. You really don't notice much aliasing.

The only pixelated thing you'll notice in uncharted is the low res fire:

On my 13 inch Macbook Pro this is about the size of the Vitas screen:

You don't see much jaggies there.

To add to what the others said, there's also a difference between color saturation and that might have to due with the games running on an OLED screen, I'm not sure. But Vita games, like Tearaway, look more washed out in these screenshots than they do running on the Vita.

Vita shots are heavily compressed.

well this is a screenshot thread and I can only comment on what I actually see here in this thread, and not on what I COULD be seeing on the vita instead.
And all I see is a bunch of blurry images, occasional interrupted by games that aren't sub native (edit:) or compressed beyond recognition.
I just can't stand interpolation. For the past 7 years I had to endure ps360s shitty sub native shenanigans, and now thanks to the vita this shit also made it's entry into handheld space. I really don't see why the vita should get away with this stuff when on the other hand the same people constantly complain about 3ds's many shortcomings.

sry for the rant, I try to ignore blurry vita shots from now on.

Well that will do wonders for the games when the newer model is released in the west. :/
