Portable PC Gaming Thread | Play Crysis on a $99 tablet

I picked up an HP Envy Note 8 and honestly...

I'm a bit disappointed I've run into a myriad of issues. First off upon booting it for the first time the system (despite having a pretty good on paper Atom x5) didn't even seem capable of handling windows with frequent lockups insane install times and a constant 30+% of the processor being used up by "Windows compressed memory".

Updating everything seemed to alleviate this however it still on occasion slows to a crawl (same process eating up memory and processor). Even the update process was a pain in the butt as the system didn't have enough space to run the update. I ended up uninstalling literally everything on the tablet (even all the built in windows stuff like excel and word) using CCleaner + Windows cleanup tools and still barely hitting over a few MB of the required 10GB open to run the update.

I've tried running stardew valley on the system but the game freaks out when it's launched and for some reason wont' allow me to change the resolution settings. What I end up with is about 1/4 of the screen being off the top left of the screen and no way to change it to windowed or change the resolution.

I've attempted to use this as just a sit on the couch and browse the web tablet but Flash in Edge cripples the tablet on even the most basic sites you can disable it but because it's a full fledged browser most sites attempt to default to flash meaning content isn't available and there's no way to force the system to request mobile sites (even going to m.neogaf.com just reloads the full page). There's a way to switch it to a mobile browser under developer tools but that requires to you to launch the developer tools on every individual page and then changing the user agent it doesn't stick between pages and goes away if you close the inspector. Firefox and chrome don't quite work right in tablet mode either and honestly I don't want to waste the space to keep them installed.

Finally I added a Micro SD card to attempt to alleviate the space issue but it randomly unmounts whenever it's being read/written from. Whenever I try to save stuff to it after a few minutes of writing (or reading) it just unmounts itself and the system throws an error saying the D drive is unavailable. I've tried removing it and re-adding and it shows up after that but the issue persists

Just wanted to give this thread a bump.

In my neverending quest to find a good steam portable I'm considering this HP Pavilion 10

Just wondering if anyone has one of these and is it capable? I'd be planning on using it for indies (Stardew Valley etc) and some 16 bit emulators, as well as it acting as a work tool for me.

I'm also looking at the Linxvision 8 but that seems a little gimmicky and the reviews I've seen have only focused on it's streaming capabilities rather than showing anything playing natively.

I've got one. It's a good tablet. It has a very nice screen.

I'm going to install some emulators etc... and try some gaming on it.

My wired Xbox 360 pad arrives tomorrow to I'll report back then.

Any updates on gaming on this tablet or other info on it? Looking at one for emulators and light Steam indie games, but I'm a bit leery of them.
