"I couldn't get a job with CIA today. I am not qualified. I don't have the language skills. I, you know, my language skills were romance languages and stuff. We're looking for Arabists today. I don't have the cultural background probably. And I certainly don't have the technical skills, uh, as my children remind me every day, "Dad you got to get better on your computer." Uh, so, the things that you need to have, I don't have.
-- Rep. Porter Goss, March 3, 2004, Washington, DC"

WRONG MAN FOR THE JOB!!! How can people be suporting these freaking moronic senators and President who put this man at the top of the CIA? HOW HOW HOW?

...Since when do you need language skills to become the president of something?

HOW HOW HOW?
And I'll tell you how :

Now, after false documents will serve as a basis for the next war on the next random country, whoever's in power won't have any (or at least, even less) trouble whatsoever blaming it on the CIA.

"AMERICA! LOOK! HE EVEN SAID HIMSELF THAT HE WASN'T QUALIFIED".

Sneaaaaaaaaky.

Don't have an opinion about his confirmation, but that dog don't hunt. He's saying that he lacks the experience necessary to be today's analyst. The head of the CIA is more a politician, a manager, a vision person, and a relationship builder. Its like the head of TW saying that he doesn't understand Chineese so he's unfit to work for TW because they want to do business in China. Those skills aren't particularly necessary for that job.

He says he wouldn't be hired by the CIA today. But now he's the top guy.

That's like saying I wouldn't be hired for an amature football team but the Vikings just called they want me to be their next starting quarterback.

BS.

Absolutely on point.

With that being said, however, it sure as hell wouldn't hurt for the next CIA director to understand technology and Arabic cultures (you really can't learn a language without understanding at least part of the culture), as they will be key transformational issues for the Agency.

I wouldn't be hired by McDonalds today, but I sure as hell could manage one :D

You're talking about two entirely different jobs. There is no way he could be an analyst - that much is clear, but he most certainly could be a management personality.

Sure, make him the head of "romance languages"...not the head of CIA.

Umm, it's nothing like that. It'd be more akin to saying you couldnt play quarterback but you got offered a job as coach or manager.

Exactly. Or head of marketing, or some other job that doesn't require football skills.
