Possible Mother 3 News?!!

BorkBork

The Legend of BorkBork: BorkBorkity Borking
Babelfish's not working for me on the site, but it seems to have been updated yesterday!

http://www.mother-jp.net/news/mother3/20050923.html

Some people are following it up here:
http://forum.starmen.net/?t=msg&th=16700&prevloaded=1&&start=0

Is it just hopeful speculation or is there something substantial here?

Damn you Itoi, taking your sweet ass time. I really want it to be moved to the DS, but at this point, I'd be happy if they actually released it within the next year.

Edit: this looks promising! Can anyone translate the text on this?!
http://www.br2.co.jp/brownie/project/ :lol definitely looks earthbound-ish!

I'm going to be holing myself up in Kichijoji to get tons done on "it".
"It" is progressing in secret.
I'm keeping silent, that's just how it is.
Everyone who's working on "it", let's make an announcement in the near future, ok?.

I bet "It" is Shigesato Itoi's No. 1 Bass Fishing for Revolution =)

*sigh*

I was hoping for something more substantial, what with the topics "?!!" and all... but I won't believe any news until I see pics, a solid final release date, and Nintendo knocks on my door to hand deliver me a copy of EB2/Mother3.

I'd like this moment to mumble about how the original Mother 3 design for the N64 called for a battle system where the joystick was to be used as a guitar pick... where you could "play" the guitar to damage the enemies.

I'd now like to mutter oddly about how the Revolution controller would work very well for a motion based, guitar playing controller.

That is all.

"MOTHER3" related information September 23rd (gold) 7:57 as for "MOTHER3" completion nearness? In the near future, possibility of sale it increases at a stroke, (unsettled information) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- authenticity and reliability have not decided this information, "unsettled information" is. It is the powerful information after 2 years ago -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- as "MOTHER3" related information. 2004 November 19 date article "thread well it is heavy at the village person Nintendo Co. affiliated company duty?", being similar, the thread well heavily the village person is the Nintendo Co. affiliated company, at there is a possibility of having worked over long term relatively "the brow knee ・ Brown" corporation, it conveyed distantly, but the next few days according to the information which is ascertained, the same company the thread well person and also the possibility of doing the development "of MOTHER3" was very high, in addition "MOTHER3", the possibility of having already entered into the stage before the master raising came out. The thread well it is heavy as for the village person, this month on 22nd and the 23rd, itself sight "almost" the present darling "of the daily イトイ newspaper" being similar, With "the that" work, - you are confined into the っ and Kitiziyouzi. Being to be advancing at below water it does "the that". However you say nothing, being to be such, it does. Don't you think? everyone "of that that" authorized personnel, among those it will announce. (22 dates) The person, generally known lodging together is done. It is the case that today it is at Kitiziyouzi's hotel. (23 dates) The very interesting comment where with you say, is moved aside. At description above there is an office of the affiliated company "brow knee ・ Brown" corporation of Nintendo Co. which is touched in Kitiziyouzi. Pouring the extent power where the aforementioned "thread well heavily at the village person Nintendo Co. affiliated company duty?" that including also the information which is said, when it presumes, the thread well person a some "the thing (game title and the like)" (does stay at the same company and is packed) the possibility of developing probably will be you can say that furthermore it has strengthened. The brow knee ・ Brown corporation this month has started the hurried recruiting of the debugger from 22nd, but the rumor little by little authenticity has increased whether the flash which the developer of the same company releases to from the fact that it has been similar "MOTHER" very, the title which is in the midst of developing which becomes the object of at this debugging "MOTHER3" is not to be. It influences also the information that "the thread well heavily there is a possibility the village person having worked at the brow knee ・ Brown corporation", the rumor from around end of last year "isn't the brow knee ・ Brown corporation the thread well heavily the village person and ' MOTHER3 ' to do development?", spread little by little, but, this time you can call the shape where authenticity of that rumor increases at a stroke, probably will be. If temporarily, the game title which becomes the debugging object is "MOTHER3", from time and the like of master rise end of this year? Around spring of next year there is a possibility of being touched ", MOTHER3". ", That that" the one ふ is done "the that", it can presume that in just expression "of the MOTHER" series connection, naturally "MOTHER3" is powerful. As for this to the last because of "unsettled information", it is not possible to conclude these items of information at present time, but it is certain in the near future for the whole aspect to become clear. It will wait for follow-up story.

Yeah. Nintendo needs to get on releasing Mother 1+2 here in the states. I don't know why they don't. I'd imagine it'd sell well, and I'd sure as heck buy one.

Yup, still waiting on Mother 1+2. Extremely weak move on NOA's part for not getting it out in NA.

At least this shows us that there's still a pulse on the project.

I've been scraping for news about mother 3 for years now, i'll belive it when i hold it in my trembling hands. EarthBound was the game that really made me appreciate and love RPGs

Oh yea WTF is up with that long post, did anyone try to read that?

Mother 3 is pretty much the definition of vaporware at this point. I mean, it's been 2 and a half years since it was confirmed for GBA, and still nothing.

Stuff I got from it:
- First bit of news since 2004.
- Rumors of Brownie Brown being involved
- Itoi's staying and working on something in Kichijoji, where Brownie Brown is located.
- highly possible Mother 3 is entering its debug stage, so release in 2006.
- definite Earthbound inspired swf file (posted in this thread) on Brownie Brown's site.

Man, that is some rough engrish.

the brownie brown page definitely looks like mother, so i'd agree that they're developing it with itoi.

earthbound was one of the best rpgs i've ever played, so please let mother 3 come soon and please let it be translated :)

[and come on noa, deliver earthbound 1 & 2 for gba, the english has already been done!]

Unless you people actually played the Japanese version, why don't you stick to calling it "Earthbound", yeah? Because that's its fucking name in practically every other region.

Holy shit, that flash thing IS Earthbound inspired. It even had an "Akkii is sizing up the situation!" "Kunimiso called for help, but nobody came!"

"Arayan started crying uncontrollably!"

Oh God, plz don't let me down!

And it better be fucking translated if true.

"That's the fucking name in practically every other region", huh? It was only ever released in North America in addition to Japan. Stop trying to be authoritative if you don't know your shit.

# of Mother releases: 3
# of Earthbound releases: 1

Whee.

Hmm... with the GBA line getting new life breathed into it (via the Micro), I suppose it's possible for NOA and NOE to release Earthbound Collection (or something like that) over here...

Okay, that's great, now address my other point. Can you read Japanese? Did you play the Japanese version? If not, then stfu and call it Earthbound.

If Mother 3 does get released outside of Japan, I'm assuming it will be called Earthbound. Folks on an English language gaming board tend to use the Western names for games, so I can see the logic in calling it "Earthbound" instead of "Mother". However, that could be a problem when it comes to the original "Mother," which had no Western equivalent... "Earthbound Zero" isn't a legitimate name, and that leaves you with two entirely different games with the same name.

I'll stick with calling the series (and SNES title) Earthbound, but using the term "Mother" when referring to the original Famicom title, when in context of the Mother 1 & 2 GBA cartridge, and when referring to "the new Earthbound title" as "Mother 3".

There we go!

That swf was so cool, N-Dude must represent some Nintendo rep who kept fucking up their development or something lol.

Yes, I own and have played the Japanese version of Mother 1+2 on GBA. For your second question, studying it and it's hard as hell. Now you shut up - I have got the point that you prefer to call it Earthbound and I continue to call it Mother.

I don't know. Nintendo of Europe called the cancelled N64 version "Mother 3", but they listed Mother 1&2 as "Earthbound 1&2".

Aha, nice try, but no cigar. Did you play the Japanese version of Earthbound, "Mother 3", or did you play the version titled "Earthbound"? Also, you're...studying Japanese? So when you say you've "played" Mother 1 and 2, you really mean you struggled with it for half an hour due to your inability to read Japanese, and then promptly gave up, right?

okay you had me there I thought you were serious for a while

I was initially serious, then I realised who I was dealing with -

“Wapanese” are decidedly caucasian individuals who, by means of thoroughly warped postmodern acculturation processes, have come to the decision that it is in their best interest to act as if they were denizens of the nation of Japan. The term “wapanese” can be accurately though of as an analog to wigger. A whitey can be classified as a “Wapanese” if they are in possession of two or more of the following defining traits:

1. Has an unhealthy obsession with shallow, saccharine and intellectually insulting animation shows (also refered to as anime by the nerd elite) originally tailored for young Japanese children

2. Operates under the erroneous belief that every aspect of American culture is vastly inferior to that of Japan’s – even though 99.9% of Wapanese have never had firsthand experience of any sort with their preferred culture (in other words, they’ve never set so much as one foot upon the island(s) of Japan)

3. Halfheartedly studies Japanese language and/or is a part-time practitioner of martial arts

4. Has a sword (samurai swords only, of course) collection

5. Is a Virgin
6. May be afflicted with a terminal case of yellow fever; however, they constantly fail in their quest for Japanese pootytang

7. Extreme cases may traipse around whilst wearing a “costume” that makes them resemble their favorite anime characters (this practice is reffered to as cosplay; cross-dressing and raging homosexuality is not an uncommon component of cosplay.

This also applies to most of the posters who scream "bad art" in every thread about a western developed game.

p.s. Earthbound is a fantastic game and we need more rpgs like it. I'd love to see another in the series, or even a new rpg that take splace in a modern, urban setting.

Very true. But we have short memories when they do something right, like IF or WHEN the next Earthbound is released, we'll forgive them in an instant. :)

Earthbound for SNES is the ONLY game in which I truly felt the developers behind it had as much fun creating it as their fans playing it.

Just. Stop. You've made your point that you like the Earthbound name, stop embarrasing yourself further.

For the record, although I insist to call this series Mother, I have absolutely no preference for Japan. I've been there several times and I was in Tokyo a week ago and happy as always to take off from Narita. I get completely fed up with Tokyo typically in two days, it's too exhausting with too much twisted shit going on for my tastes. There are many other places in Asia I enjoy more.

Who. Gives. A. Shit.

Jesus, Mother/Earthbound, whatever. Who cares. They can call it DOOMSDAY for all I care and I still won't give a crap. Just stop.

Biohazard / Resident Evil
Panel de Pon / Tetris Attack
Mother / Earthbound

People are free to call it whatever they want. So now please either positively contribute to the thread or get the hell out.

Urgh, stop arguing over that crap in my thread. I posted it as Mother 3 instead of Earthbound because 1.) it has only thus far been officially announced only in Japan, where it is known as MOTHER, and 2.) anyone who is an earthbound fan worth anything knows that it's called Mother ANYWAYS. The important thing is that there is actual news and clues pointing to its impending release, so shut the hell up if you're not contributing.

Urgh, no. Just no. I've only played Golden Sun 1, but that was the most generic, cliched RPG I have had the pleasure to try to play. I know Golden Sun 2 is a lot better, but the experience with the first one left me scarred. :P

You do not even put a fucking Golden Sun game in the same god-damned universe as a Mother game. You both gtfo now! Both of you have shitty taste that forces the Gods to recoil in pain.

Truth is GS2 is just as generic/cliched as GS1... it's just more acceptable around here for some reason. At least unlike the Mother games though, they play slightly better than the original Dragon Quest.
