What are the games or game related items you've collected that you HAD TO HAVE and paid retarded amounts of cash for. Heres my top five:

Xbox: Steel Battalion: $400 (Bought 2) -2 Years Ago
TurboCD (Jap): Castlevania: Rhondo of Blood: $125 -6 Years Ago
Gamecube: Resident Evil 2: $85 -Last Week
PSX (Jap): Biohazard: $75 -4 Years Ago
N64: Sin & Punishment: $70 -2 Years Ago

Most of the other titles I got on launch or lucked out on and tagged on the cheap.
Some of my other beauties that I didn't get raped on include:

Sega CD: Snatcher: $30
Saturn: Panzer Dragoon Saga: $50
Saturn: Shining Force 3: $50
Saturn (Jap): Akumajo Dracula (SOTN): $50
NES: Tengen Tetris: Free w/Box
Every Castlevania Released Stateside

I have tons more of rare games but they are pesonally more valuable than they would be on Ebay.
 
rondo of blood and a metal slug 3 mvs cart for ~$100 each. nothing else above $75, i don't think. i fortunately bought a lot of the more coveted saturn shooters when they were fairly new, e.g. radiant silvergun, battle garegga, and sengoku blade.
 
There was a time when I just got a settlement account opened up by turning 18, and was working at a factory and pulling down $500 a week.

During this time I was fueled by pure retardation, and acquired AES Pulstar for the sum of $600. Sent in fifties and wrapped in tinfoil. To the legendary french eBay user, Adol.
 
I really don't buy many "rare" games that are really expensive, so I can't contribute much.. the only thing I can think of is Turok 1 for the N64, which was $80 at the time... an unbelievable number to think about nowadays..


EDIT: Or was it $70? Damn it, I can't remember.. I think $80.. I think..
 
$70 for a copy of Suikoden II and $60 for Atelier Iris because I wanted to come back from Japan with an RPG that wasn't gonna come stateside, and I apparently managed to get that wrong.

Yea. i had an opportunity to get Radiant Silvergun free and I dropped the ball on it. Only now does it pain me so.
 
$125 for Mortal Kombat II on PSX, which is about the normal price that goes for.

I have a bunch of arcade games that where $500+, the most costly being Killer Instinct 2 which was about 700 I think.

Jesus, I had no idea MKII on the PS went for that much. Actually, I don't even remember MKII coming out on the PS, just MK3 and beyond. :D

The only arcade game I ever owned was Ms. Pacman. My parents got it for $50 or $80 (one of those, don't remember exactly) from this lady they knew who wanted to get rid of it.

It never made it out to the US. Acclaim was going to release it here(after MK3) but ended up only releasing it in Japan, for some reason. It's based on the Saturn port(which did make it here) and isn't really that good.
 
I stupidly paid $AU139.40 each for Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Pikmin. I learnt my lesson about local import stores.
 
I'm trying to think of something expensive, but all I'm coming up with is my complete Final Fantasy III (SNES), which isn't really expensive compared to everyone else's.

When and where did you buy that if I may ask? Just curious because it was available brand new for about $30 from TZD up until about a year ago. It's also not even remotely rare, considering it was one of the most popular Turbo CDs, and it was a pack-in for the Duo.

Huh. I had no idea. Well thanks for the info.. you learn something new every day, eh? Or in my case, every 3 months.. :D

I never played the Saturn port. I believe my fiancee's brother owns it, but I've never even watched him play it.

I had the SNES version of MKII. It was my belief that the SNES always had the better version of MK (1, 2, and 3) over the Genesis. It didn't bother me too much that the first one was toned down. It looked better, and controlled better (preferred SNES controller).
 
Ah yeah. Half-Life Gold. $110. $90 + $10 tax + $10 shipping. Worth every damn penny.

Of course, I paid full price, or close to it, for Hey You! Pikachu! I'm a goddamn Poké-Whore.
 
Panzer Dragoon Saga - $120
Shining Force 3 - $100

I did also import Phantasy Star Online epi 1 & 2 along with the bba and keyboard adaptor, so that cost me quite abit. Plus I had the game for a whole week before the huge duping glitch was found so my ver1 import copy was useless and I had to buy the US version when it came out. :)

eBay about 2 years ago. I don't even know what TZD is, actually. I hit up a couple of different places, and finally settled on an eBay auction because it was either the best price I could get, or was the only one at the time that I could find which offered up a complete package (and not just the discs in a generic case.)
 
That would have to be WOW. With my monthly fees and the fact that I plan to play at least for one full year, that would amount to 12X15CAN + 70CAN = 250$CAN !!!

Oh and that is assuming I lose interest after 1 year... wich I cannot see why it would happend right now. But maybe in a year things could change, like major next gen console comes in the market.

Turbo Zone Direct (www.tzd.com) was started by an ex-TTi guy who bought out their stock of Turbo stuff when TTi went under, and has been selling it ever since. He was basically the biggest supplier of NOS Turbo stuff around. Up until the last few years you could buy most of the Turbo catalog from TZD, including brand new Duos and Turbo Expresses. He also did repairs. I always felt their game prices were on the high side (they tended to be close to original list prices), but that's probably because I bought most of Turbo collection back around 92-94 when some mail-order outfits were having a fire-sale on Turbo stock. Still, if you needed accessories it was a great place to go (since I've always preferred to buy new, especially control pads). I think that most of the old stock is gone now, and TZD will probably close in a few years. If you do find something left you want on the web site, they are quite reliable.
 
Most I've ever paid for a game was $75 for a USED copy of Virtul Pro Wrestling 2 for N64. Damn me and my fix of Japanese Prowrestling
 
$75 each for FFT (yes, before the rerelease - I feel like an ass now) and Radiant Silvergun (late '99). Oh, and a bit more than that for the LE of PS2 Hot Gimmick, thanks to exorbitant deputy service fees. I've learned my lesson.

Eh, if you want to count PCBs...$108 for Raiden Fighters.
 
Steel Battalion + Ebay + LOC = $350. Nothing's going to top that...

$120 each for Time Crisis 2 & 3 (2 copies of each with Guncons)

$150 Soul Calibur 2 because I bought all three versions all at once.

Think Shenmue 2 Euro ran me $70


Now, if you count the sticks I have\will bought\build just for Street Fighter...
 
I've paid $80 for Art of Fighting 2 on Neo Geo (cart) and $70 on Secret of Mana for SNES when it was brand new. I also laid out $75 for the Age of Mythology Collector's Edition. I've been contemplating saving up to get Radiant Silvergun which I've played but don't own.
 
i paid $150 for Street Fighter 2 (JAP SNES Version) back in 8th grade. i saved up all my lunch money and allowance for that damn game. it was nice to be the first on the block to have it though. =]

i got a copy of suikoden 2 for 4 dollars. i am still pretty proud of that one. just got the original zelda for 2 bucks but no box. got a copy of ff3-6 for 15. got one copy of super metroid in trade for bloody roar 2. mega man 2 for free.

the most i ever spent on a game was $50. i rarely buy them for that much.

Paid around 80 dollars each for Dragon Warrior II, III, and IV, when they were first released(III and IV anyway, not sure how long II was on the shelf).

Around 70 each for FFIII, Chrono Trigger, and Legend of Mana on first release.
 
Turbografx-CD attachment: $350 in 1990. NEC dropped the price $50 from the original list of $400 and Ys Book I & II came out, so I bought the CD player.

Dracula X: $85 to import this in 1994.

Macross 2036: $80 in 1992.

Super System Card 3.0 + 3-in-1 CD: $100 in 1992. This was offered directly from TTi when the Duo came out to allow people with the older Turbo-CD attachment to upgrade to the equivalent of the Duo.

Falcom Special Box '89: $88 for this back in 1996. First print, which is pretty rare. Bought used from somone on Usenet (twas in the days before ePay). Music from Falcom games naturally (Ys, Xanadu, and Sorcerian).

Ys anime OAV laserdiscs: $400 in 1995. I see that you can now buy this on domestic DVD for about $40 :/

Street Fighter II for SNES: $75 in 1992. This is the most I ever paid for a domestic game.

Dreamcast Twin Sticks: $101 in 2001.

OTOH, I did make out quite well once by getting a Dreamcast BBA (by ordering directly from Sega.com in anticipation of PSO's release). Paid $60 for it, sold it later on eBay for $191 :D

Ahh. Not sure who or what TTi were, but thanks for the update. I checked out the link. They don't have much of interest left, sadly. Wish I knew about them YEARS ago. They seem like they used to be an awesome resource. Pity I missed out.
 
Most I've ever spent on a game is $80 dollars way back when Phantasy Star IV came out on the Genesis.

$500, but in practically mint condition!

As for console stuff, I haven't paid a lot for many single games, but I did very recently pay $300 for a Pop'n Music arcade style controller. I think that's the most I've ever spent on a single console game or accessory.
 
$110 for Turok on N64. I saved up from my paper route to buy it. The price was so high because the only place in this small town that sold it was some shitty computer shop that had to order it in.

I also bought StarFox (SNES) for $90 at Canadian Tire.

I haven't fired up the SSF2T in years ; I wonder if the EEPROM battery still works . I read they only have a lifespan of like 5 years . Once the battery dies, the unit is DOA from what I understand .
