NINTENDO NEWS: METROID PRIME HUNTERS WILL BE WI-FI READY

Aug. 26, 2005

Since the Nintendo DS™ first launched with demo versions of Metroid® Prime Hunters, fans have been clamoring for the completed version of the game. Their patience has paid off. Metroid Prime Hunters will launch in the first quarter of 2006, complete with access to Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo’s upcoming online gaming service. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will debut before the end of the year with a Mario Kart® and an Animal Crossing® game, and will let players connect wirelessly with one another as easily as if they were sitting in the same room.

For the first time, fans can get their hands on a trial version of the new single-player mission of Metroid Prime Hunters this weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo in Bellevue, Wash. Attendees also can see three previously unreleased bounty hunter characters in the game. These include Sylux, a ruthless sharpshooter who harbors an intense hatred for Metroid heroine Samus Aran; Trace, a young outcast who seeks power and a planet to invade; and Weavel, a cyborg Space Pirate assassin. For more information and videos of the bounty hunters in action, visit www.metroidhunters.com.

Nintendo's making all the right moves with DS and its totally shocking. I guess the PSP really was the best thing to ever happen to Nintendo's portable division. :lol

Dare i say it? Yeah, I do... BAD ART!

The new characters are on the hunters website.. They look pretty stupid.

A copule are ok, but it's pretty disappointing after the great art we've seen from Retro.

...please no one come in and tell me Retro did this art too.

The character art is really generic and cliched. They look like some Bionicle figures or something. This game really should have been developed by Retro instead of NST.

I won't let bad art spoil the good news.

I think as soon as MP:H slipped from August to "Q1 2006" most of us knew exactly why... I can only imagine that NST reads GAF and knew what was up.

Now if only someone can convince Team 17 to keep Worms in the oven long enough too.

And to the one who said the PSP was the best thing to happen to Nintendo's portable division, I completely agree. Yay competition!

this game shouldn't have happened, retro or no retro.

besides i want to see retro's creative talent outside of the metroid universe. something along the lines of Half-Life gameplay and setting.

Well according to PR recently Prime 3 on Rev completes the trilogy of Prime, so i guess they'll move on after that??

I would think Retro would either work on a new game after MP3 and then go back and make another Metroid game, or they'll expand a bit and work on two games at once.

If Retro can get a game out every couple years and make it at launch or around there, they could easily get a second Revolution Metroid out 4 years into the console's life with another title in between.

oh god i hope so. got a link to this info?

not saying i don't like the prime games, but i'd really like to see them tackle something new. a new breed of Goldeneye for Nintendo.

pinball, followed by a guest appearance in a basketball game, a soccer game and maybe even a baseballgame.

I don't have the link, but I can second seeing a quote that referred casually to the Metroid thing as being a trilogy... though it was a little ambiguous whether they were just casually referring to it as such. I don't think anything has been firmly decided, but I'm sure that Retro is itching to work on something new.

while I am glad they are introducing some more bounty hunters to the metroid universe...it is too bad retro didnt handle the designs.

Was it PR? Was it not that interview they had at the Luminoth Temple?

3. What can you tell us about the plot of Metroid Prime 3?
Retro: The plot of Prime 3 is about closure, told against the backdrop of an epic struggle.

That's all they say that in any way could suggest an end to the Metroid Prime storyline.

I have to say though, IGN's leap from that to "Retro acknowledged that Metroid Prime 3 would bring the trilogy to an end" is a bit of a leap. And while it might mean that, they were only talking about storyline, there's little to suggest they wouldn't keep making Metroid games.

Unless there is a PR anyway.

Where is all this art coming from? I'm not seeing it on Nintendo Europe's page [It's a POS, hasn't been updated in yonks]

My ol' Nintendo US login is gone too. Did they change the password? Anyone got the new one handy? :)

Nice to see they actually listened. Will definitely get this on release now, looking forward to seeing more of the SP game this weekend.

Good news. See...sometimes delays are good.

I'm pretty sure if we were ever able to get our hands on the Twilight Princess that would have been alongside the version that's now been delayed into the Spring, I'm pretty sure we would of agreed. Same goes for the RE4 and Ocarina delays... it's nice when games are delayed so that they can be made great instead of merely good... gamers win in that instance, even though businesses might lose cash.

its for this i wonder why Zelda:TP has been delayed.
I'd delay it til next September or whenever and just release it on Rev.

Next E3 will make it the 3rd E3 for this Zelda.
Is that a record for Zelda??

well I much prefer this to multi colored "Sami" and some shit about her being cloned or going to some bounty hunter school. at least by this method, bad art or not, they keep a bit of the integrity... sort of.

but yeah TEH BAD ARTS.

the first one looks like a regect killer instinct character, and that is tough to do

Yeah, I have the same thoughts. Zelda:TP being pushed to Revolution would not surprise me in the least, and I almost expect it now.

Yikes! Looks like Retro isn't designing the newest characters. Anyways, I'm glad there will be variety in the characters you can pick in multiplayer. I really don't know how this will affect single-player. I hope they can still provide a tight play experience and story. Online multiplay! +1 sale regardless.

Oh man, some of the new character videos on the site are cool...

I can't wait for this game now :(
I can't even wait for some single player impressions

Ew.

Where's Metroid Dread (the rumoured 2D ex-R&D1 staff DS title) already? I need a real Metroid game. FAST.

Shhhh, the more we say things like this, the less likely it is it'll be revealed before Hunters is out.
