PR: MP:Hunters will be Wi-Fi ready

I don't know how the single player will come out. I'd much rather have Retro Studios make that part, but I had some fun battles even on the demo with my friends.

Hopefully there will be plenty of levels, weapons, and characters to choose from. If the controls are as spot-on as they were in the demo and all of those are there, we should have one great multiplayer game on our hands.

Where's Metroid Dread (the rumoured 2D ex-R&D1 staff DS title) already?
tell me more

It's (supposed) to be coming.

But fuck, if they cancel THAT one after Prime sees "success" on the fucking DS (like they did with the rumoured NCL 3D Metroid for GC), I will fucking firebomb NOA/Retro/NST/NCL/etc.

I'm absolutely certain it's still coming and they just pulled it from E3 because all attention would (rightly) shift away from Hunters.

Well some of us don't consider that "other" "game" to be worthy of Metroid name. At least fucking release one fucking screen or something.

Real Metroid, Nintendo. STAT.

I've got a feeling Hunters is basically the online deathmatch game, with scripted events making up a single player game. Whereas I think Metroid Dread (if its coming) will be the more exploratory 2d game we know and love. There's probably some cool things they could do with ball play, weapons and being able to actually touch the environment in a 2d Metroid too. I look foreward to seeing what, if anything, they've done with it.

While I disagree with your general stance towards Retro and Metroid Prime, I firmly back you in your hatred of Metroid Prime Hunters.

The characters could stand to be a bit more interesting, but a few of them make up for the boring ones.

Online Metroid: Hunters is the good news I was looking for.

WOO!

Am I the only one that really dug that Metroid demo that came with the DS? Multiplayer was really fun and the control is better than dual analog.

I agree though, not a huge fan of them having it be a Metroid game.

I'm betting it'll do very well thanks to that demo.
It's probably still the best technical showpiece...

For the first time, fans can get their hands on a trial version of the new single-player mission of Metroid Prime Hunters this weekend at the Penny Arcade Expo in Bellevue, Wash. Attendees also can see three previously unreleased bounty hunter characters in the game. These include Sylux, a ruthless sharpshooter who harbors an intense hatred for Metroid heroine Samus Aran; Trace, a young outcast who seeks power and a planet to invade; and Weavel, a cyborg Space Pirate assassin. For more information and videos of the bounty hunters in action, visit www.metroidhunters.com.

I knew going would pay off.

Well, ok. I don't really see what that has to do with what I said, but ok.

So connectivity isnt a gimmick now?

/doesnt run.....

eh... as long as they don't require 4 PSPs to play a game!

edit:

The way nintendo implemented connectivity was stupid. It was like the dreamcast VMUs. Sony ideas (so far at least) are more along the lines of continuing your save game on the road, not playing a game with PSPs as controllers.

At least there's solid confirmation now of it.

Wasn't the biggest fan of the demo that came with the DS, but who knows, that was a year ago. If it improved a lot, I'll pick it up. Still want the 2D Metroid.

I want to see what happens after Fusion, damnit.

the online service is called "Nintendo Wifi Connection"? What happened to Warppipe/Rainbow Road/Hershey Highway/whatever?
What the hell are you talkinga bout?

I don't know where you got Rainbow Road and Hershey Highway from, but Warppipe is a 3rd party tunneling application for the GC, not some Nintendo developed service.

I'm still trying to figure out what about Metroid Prime: hunters is so bad. I loved the demo, and can't wait to start fighting people via online. Though I will admit I'd much rather have a real metroid game, I ain't complaining now :)

The only bad thing about this is that if I play as Weavel vs. another Weavel, I'd try to lose, for in Metroid Hunters, one must always choose the lesser of two Weavels.

Nothing about it is so bad. People just love to hate on a VERY early demo that controlled fairly well when you got the hang of the option you liked best. Good graphics, lots of potential.

Online play makes the most average of games better too.

For someone reason people think the fact that Metroid Hunters exists is preventing a new 2D Metroid from being made. As if the resources being used at NST are somehow draining the energy of teams in Japan that made Fusion and Zero Mission. Metroid Hunters seemed very fun from the demo, and we've known a new Metroid is coming out of Japan for months now, now that Wi-fi has iced the cake I hope people can start accepting this game for what it is and enjoy it

Yeah ok, only that's not actually the reason, or certainly hasn't been since the Metroid Dread news.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I didn't like the demo because it just plays like a FPS with a morphball. I don't care what people say about Metroid Prime on the GC and whether it's a FPS or not, it clearly doesn't play like a normal one and is still a Metroid game. Hunters on the other hand is exactlywhat people were worried about when Metroid went first person in the first place. Standard FPS controls, poor jumping, no exploration, run and gun gameplay...not good news.

Sure, this was only an early demo. But we've seen early demos of the GC games as well, and they managed to get in all the good stuff, even the sense of exploration despite barely lasting any longer than First Hunt.

I like the demo in one way, and that's that I can see what great possibilities the DS has when it comes to FPS. But I hate it for not working like a Metroid game at all.

in there E3 reviews they said that it was horrible but i dont think it could be horrible maybe so-so is slightly more believeable but still ime mad at them.

Well thats the thing.. you f'ers complain its a generic FPS with morphball, when all you f'ers do is buy these generic FPS's like Brothers in Arms and Pariah and Doom 3 thus causing other companies to go "GENERIC FPS's SELL GOOD! LETS MAKE MORE!"

Blame your fellow consumers for ruining FPS's =[
