is my hotel about a mile and a quarter from the expo. Looks like a whole bunch of us will be neighbors that week.

I'm going to be stuck at the same Comfort Inn, too. I say we torch the fucking place...
Any decent movie theaters within 15 minutes of the convention center? I think Episode III opens that week. This whole trip to E3 is my girlfriend's idea of a "geek's romantic getaway," and Ep. 3 only seems fitting. (Though, sadly, I haven't seen Ep. 2 yet.)

I'm going, staying with a friend, will most definitely attend the GAF meetup, and would love to hit the conferences if someone can hook my ass up!

Doubt it, unless someone decides they need someone with someone experience to cover them for their site or magazine. I'll be in town all week anyway.

I'll probably catch Episode III at the Arclight Dome (best screen in L.A., about 10 minutes from downtown). If anyone's up for that Thursday or (preferably) Friday night, that would be a cool GAF outing. Amoeba Records (best used record store in town) is right next door and there are some good restaurants in the neighborhood.

We stayed there last year, and it, while being cheap (which is good), was a royal pain in the ass.
They are bitches about giving ajoining rooms, we had to ask four times before they'd comply -- and not only that, since it's a 'convention week', they get greedy and charge your credit card for the ENTIRE STAY up front, unlike normal hotels where you can pay upon checkout.
There was nothing but bad experiences at that hotel, which is why we aren't staying there.
And for those who have never been there before, it's like in the heart of latino ville, very rundown and frightening to walk through at night.
There were many a nights where we ran from the subway stop back to the hotel ( a good 600feet or more)

There is an unadvertised way to get in under a Student pass. A few of my friends did that this year to go with me, and none of them had to pay anything, nor are they technically "part of the industry". Same thing as package 5, you can only go to the exhibits for free. Its a way to get in if you don't have the proper "credentials." You have to email them a few things (and you go to college) - including a transcript from the school. I don't remember all the things they want in the application package off hand, but if you go to their site and email their customer service and ask what the details are for the student pass, I'm sure they'd let you know. I may have the email somewhere myself actually if anyone cares.

Allright I'm getting a bit desperate and I'm going through my list of options. Due to family financial problems and moving I'm going to get cut desperately short for my trip. If I don't end up going with my friend and his Import business coworkers, which is ideal since I don't pay for room or food, I'll have to find other options.
Luckily I have a friend in LA but I'm getting a bit worried since it's so close to the expo date.

So, anyone want to answer? Can I just buy a ticket to E3, and go, without registering my media credentials? Sure, if I register my media stuff, I could go free, but I can at least attend by buying a ticket right?

side note: I just found out my summer art history class is during the same time as E3, so I wont be able to make it this year. I should be able to hit the 2006 show which may be bigger anyways. Playable US next-gen systems at E3 2006.
