Pre-Order Halo 3 at EB Games.

I remember when I worked at EB years ago, and we had FFXII both listed as an early January release....in 2003 :lol :lol

IT MUST BE TRUE

uh, you could have preordered this months ago...

also, interesting screenshot on the ebgames product page

Gotta love EB padding the Balance Sheet with unearned revenue.

yeah, cause you fork over $60 when you preorder a game online

The ship date and retail price have not been confirmed and therefore are subject to change. If the retail price is decreased you will receive the lower price.

See that? Best Buy doesn't even have box art. Why would you buy from those jokers anyway? At least we provide solid release dates.

Pre-order for Halo? Pffftttt....you know there is going to be a gazillion copies out at launch everywhere.

Of course! But movie promotion + Halo 360 promotion + next-gen = BE APART OF THE MAGIC

Seeing Master Chief again at X05 will be awesome, I hope.

I guess you're right. The way they promoted Halo 2 even drew me in and I'm not even that much a FPS player!!

I'm putting my money on Holiday 2006 for the release of Bungie's first Xbox 360 project. Which if Microsoft is smart, will be Halo 3.

holy crap, they just blew the lid off of the ps3 launch as well!

06/30/06, you heard it here first!

Nicely handled. :)

I'll be floored if the game does not ship for Holiday 2006. But 18 months for a project this big? A Bungie project no less? Bah.

I would think that Halo 3 has been on the drawing board since the day Halo 2 went Gold, despite denials from Bungie. That would leave a good 24 months of development time before Holiday '06, even though 24 months is still short by Bungie's standards. I remember reading somewhere a few months ago that they were hiring like crazy so they're probably bringing a much bigger team to Halo 3 than what they had for Halo 2. They left the ending of Halo 2 so ambiguous that the sequel was inevitable and I doubt Microsoft would let them sit around for 6 or 8 months doing nothing before starting Halo 3 development.

There was a PPT put out recently from a talk that one of the Bungie employees gave on their development cycle; the target is a 24-month cycle. It basically broke down into 6 months of pre-production, 12 months of production, and 6 months of testing, polishing and tweaking.

With six months of pre-production, the entire staff isn't needed. Based off the updates and output, here's what I think they did: Put most of the artists to work on the new maps, the cinematic team on the movie on the DVD and the networking team worked on fighting the cheating on XBox Live. The rest of the team was focused on design, planning and engine development. The new maps were done about five months ago, right at the six month window for Bungie to hit full production on schedule.

Like I said - holiday 2006 is likely. Especially since many of the big stumbling blocks that pushed Halo 2 into a three-year project are not likely to be repeated. They had a huge custom physics system, then scrapped it and put Havok in its place . They said they will likely be using Havok from the beginning this time around. Likewise, the online matchmaking was created from the ground-up for Halo 2, but is a standard 'out of the box' feature on the 360. Another chunk of development time cut down. Etc.

Even before, I'd say - If it's true they "reserved" many H2 levels and assets for porting them to Halo 3 ;-)
