PREDATOR: BADLANDS Trailer (2025)

Yeah man, the last non Disney Predator was such a banger afterall.

And by Shane Black no less, such an utter travesty in all fronts compared to most of his other scripts.

Wasn't even sexy despite having these two goddesses in it....

They are trying to humanize them more, down to human parenting and emotional issues.
It makes far more sense to me that the Yautja would take after the Green Martians of Barsoom from Burrough's "John Carter of Mars" series in that they come from an egg, all the hatchlings have to fight to survive just to get out of the incubator, and they are raised as anonymous children in a group setting with little to no affection or sense of familial attachment. The film, fun as it was, shows a bit of this. Their model would map almost directly on to the Yautja as seen in the films up till this one, even if the comics may have done stuff a bit differently.

Giving them daddy issues and a "here comes mother" mic drop does reduce them significantly IMHO, far less "alien" and more ripe for social politicization.

So glad I ignored this topic before seeing the movie.

It was awesome. Not even a predator guy. Saw it with a group of kids, middle aged people, parents teens. Everyone liked it.

Its gonna do well. Darn good action movie.

I feel like people in here who have seen it are generally pretty positive about it.

No predator film has a really big audience, so it's easy to front load it and then it's done. Hopefully the good word of mouth gives it some legs in the face of "Running Man" which seems like it will hit virtually the same audience (aka fans of Schwarzenegger films :P

Yeh, hopefully the positive response gives it some good word of mouth.

I'm seeing Running Man tomorrow. I'm not expecting amazing things but it being an Edgar Wight film, which I forgot about until recently, gives me a bit of hope. It does seem like they might cannibalise each other's audience though. But these days I'm not much of a box office person so I'm not too fussed about how much the studios make or lose as a result of that. If I like it then cool if I don't then it's not the end of the world.

Well that's the thing. People don't wait til they see a movie to actually form opinion on it anymore. We go by vibes and reception from an in group we "trust" sometimes, then repeat those takes elsewhere.

Hence why I'm glad I didnt see the doomsaying here from the trailers. It would've made me trepedaicious when I had no reason to be. I went in with almost zero expectations. I didn't know the plot, the premise, or anything. I'd only seen the initial trailer.

I've been using this approach with most movies lately, and it's great. Going in knowing almost nothing makes it much easier to not be colored by expectations the film isn't necessarily obligated to fulfill.

I had seen prey but I didn't even realize this was the same director. None of the other people with me saw prey. Tbis is the first predator film they've watched in years

Ive watched the original predator. I enjoyed that one too. More so for its special effects and great action than its plot, but I enjoyed it.

No one was a predator guy when that film won them over back in the day. Maybe that's the effect studios should go for rather than banking on pleasing an aging shrinking crowd of die hards who routinely are hard to please.

I know, standards and all. The franchise contributed to a shrinking base. But don't think for a second these movies are not being made for the nostalgia cash-in of that current age demographic as well. It's why a lot of 80s stuff are making a comeback, etc.. This doesn't exist in a vacuum.

Predator is in my top 10 films ever and naw, Badlands is pretty fun. I think some of you are overthinking it lol. Its just a competently made adventure film, nothing more nothing less. Compared to the middling Alien or, God forbid, Terminator franchises right now the Predator series is actually doing ok.

I plan to. Just making cheeky jokes.

I'll keep that in mind.

It's a pretty good fight scene, just put in some guns and it'd be like a slower John Wick fight. Plus she does it to save a doggo.

It's not, we've debated this to death in the other thread on this when it came out. Many times.

It's very unconvincing, hard to suspend reality even in a fantasy/sci-fi film with all the weightless errors. It's up there with The Acolyte saber duels.

I liked everything else minus the bear CGI. The "American Dingo" (Carolina dog) was an great touch for authenticity.

yo-yo tomahwaks alone disqualifies this for ANY kind of top honor as a fight scene.

'Women in combat' choreography has gotten a lot better since the days of 'dance fighting' like River Tam in Serenity where a 100 pound lass flips 200 pound men with ease. They like that "wrap my glistening thighs around your head and flip you head over heels" move a bit too much but I did actually see a clip where some asian cop (male) used it on a perp with success so I guess it's a legit move. But Amber Midthunder just isn't the one to sell it when we can see it 'for real' in MMA every weekend.

Very true.

It comes across as politically bias stuff i.e. anti-woke... where they are upset it's doing well and well received having wished ill upon it, as opposed to good faith informed commentary. Even if you follow it, Prey and Killers Of Killers were well received, this is of very little surprise.

Aggressive sour grapes.

I friggin love the fight scene and I really don't care how realistic it is. Its exciting, it's one take, its very cool. No different than all the dudes in the original movie shooting machine guns for 5 minutes straight without a single reload lmao.

Theres levels to which I consider this important in an action sequence and sci fi alien movies I generally don't expect combat realism, and most of them dont offer it

I glad they were having fun but about half the budget fir that film was probably wrapped up in all those costumes, im surprised they risked damaging the masks like that :p

Im also kinda surprised we've not seen a predator haka dance, that seems like the kinda thing they would do. Folks would whine about 'cultural appropriation' but I bet the Maori would be down for it. Maybe they can introduce a tribe of burly 300+ pound tattooed preds in the next film :p

Just back from seeing this with the wee lad, I fucking loved it, loved the Predator homeworld and lore, loved the alien planet, the Predator look whilst amusing in the trailers makes sense in the movie, he's the runt and tbh the effects and his demeanor sold it for me and I was totally onboard with his journey, loved the synth buddy, played brilliantly by Ellie, the wee alien kid wasn't sold on, reminded me of the creature from Lost in Space, the Wayland Yutani Alien crossover is just class.. yeah solid 8/10 for me

I had seen the trailer, so I knew it was never going to have that gritty vibe from the classic 80s movie(s), but I definitely do miss that. I managed to seperate this one from the others and was able to enjoy it. It was basically a buddy movie with action scenes in a SciFi setting, more or less. Cool creatures, I actually thought Bud was cool but at the same time I thought......this doesn't belong in Predator at all.

I can see why this is Pegi 13, the Disney sauce is definitely noticeable and I can absolutely understand why hardcore fans are disappointed.

So despite the praise of the film fanboys it looks like it's a dud (~161 million box office VS 105 million production budget)
I guess people that go to see movies in cinema wanted a proper Predator film :messenger_winking:

Saw it over the weekend. Enjoyed it, fast paced, good action, didn't feel ripped off paying the overpriced cinema tickets. The "comedic" elements were lame, didn't care for them.

All you people dumping on this aren't Predator Fans, how can you call yourself a Predator fan and not like the last 3 flicks put out by Dan Trachtenberg, the guy single-handedly brought the Predator back into the mainstream with 3 fucking excellent flicks, stop comparing it to the first one ffs.. what do we now compare every action movie to Diehard every scifi movie to Aliens etc, those where all damn near perfect movies at a perfect point in time, aint nobody touching those, be happy were getting these iconic creatures back in the cinema with a half decent budget and decent enough stories, they aint fucking Dune

A comparison within the same FRANCHISE is nothing like comparing movies within the same GENRE!
Are you seriously using these two unrelated comparisons to justify your point ????
