Prime has the best menu EVER

I just booted up the game, which I won't be playing for few days, cuz I'm getting merried and shit ... lol

anyway the menu is really AWESOME, I had fun exploring it, its really 'innovative' , how do ppl come up with those ideas ??!!

played for 5 minutes, and had to call my sis to come and take the cables so I can stop playing, and what I noticed is that te game has the best graphics I've seen on a console, although I just played HL2, it still managed to WOW me..

I wish I could play more.. oh .. and before that I booted Mario Tennis and played 3 games with my family (bro. young-sis, and bro in law), at first we didnt know whats going on, but sooner than we thought we started cracking up.. this game is as fun as any mario multi-player game, and I think its gameplay is deep just like Mario Golf, but I can't confirm that befoer spending more time with the game ..

still got Paper Mario & MGS 3 wrapped .. I can't believe I'll leave a game un-opened and go to sleep, I have NEVER done that before EVER .. let alone TWO GAMES.. TWO AAA GAMES .. OMG

Yeah, the Prime 2 menu annoyed me for about five minutes. Then I worked it out and it was fun to just spin the thing around and listen to the neato sound effects. I'm really easily amused sometimes...

I loathe, and love this time of year.

The menu in the original prime was beautiful. The effects it created made you feel like you were conducting a Metroid autopsy.

MGS3's title screen is awesome too. I was amazed when my friend showed me the NTSC-version.

I could look at the MGS3 title screen all day. The animation is really superb

I really like it where the "Metroid Prime 2... echoes" scrolls onto the screen, behind it you can see metroid mandables, almost as grainy film on a futuristic monitor scrambling in and out of view at different angles and stuff. The game oozes style out of every pore. I can't wait for MGS3 in europe too!

Yeah, and the music too. Just awesome! People thought Twin Snakes had a nice title screen, but MGS3 just kills it.

Funny story about that. Those hand-to-hand takedowns are motion-captured animations, and the motion actor for Snake is Motosada Mori, the god-king gun otaku who they consult for all the fiddly details in the Metal Gear games. The motion actor for the unfortunate soldier, meanwhile, is the guy who did Raiden's motions for Sons of Liberty.

Anyway, when we toured KCEJ last year, they were telling us that none of those throws are pulled -- i.e., that poor guy was actually getting hammered there. Wonder how long the whole session took...

Hey, speaking of the Prime 2 stuff, like the attract animation and the Game Over sequence, art nerds: is there a particular person or design outfit that they're biting that style from? Because it occurred to me when I was watching it that it looks exactly like the DVD menus from the Alien Quadrilogy box set.

I definitely agree, about both Primes. One thing Metroid has over almost every other game this gen is the presentation - few come close.

I'm still waiting on my copy of MGS3, though I hope it rocks too.

Infact i think the only things holding back the game looks wise is the old Metroid stuff like Samus normal suit. Everything Retro did from scratch is amazing.

I don't like the Menu for Echoes. The in game menu's are ok because you can use the c-stick. But the c-stick doesn't seem to work for me on the startup menu's. It's kind of annoying. I'd rather have a non-innovative booring easy to navigate menu.

well, the dark suit is pretty fugly.

Well i did mean the start menus. Although i certainly dont mind the pause menus either. Its more organized than MP1's. But yes some people will be annoyed with the '3d' rotation.

Not as ugly as the original 'red and orange' suit.

Most of it is nicer, but the shoulder pads are just nasty. Maybe if they were a bit smaller, they wouldn't look too bad, but the size, combined with the design of them, just makes them look really stupid and unbalanced. The originals' are also pretty bad, but not quite as bad as the dark suit ones...

Light Suit > all

But its true. All the artwork from the Original Metroids is crap and very ugly. Also it probably is the biggest reason for low sales :p

Dark Suit looks sexy in the concept art. I like it, but it definately looks much worse in game. What happened to the in game graphical execution?

WTF, the original Metroids had great art ideas. They got a big armored suit to not look cumbersome and Kraid, the Chozo and the enemies had great design. The bubble worlds were cool, too.

I do agree that Metroid Prime got one of the better meny's yeah.
However. It for sure got the best Map ever.
I never found a map that's better then the one in the Prime games.

IMO.

The map viewer in Metroid Prime (haven't played MP2:E) reminded me a lot of the ones found in the Descent games for PC.

It reminded me of Descent as well. Which is a good thing

From the title, I figured you were talking about Metroid:Hunters. Metroid Hunters is one of the coolest title screens I seen, how it illuminates wherever the stylus is. Haven't seen Echo's menu though...

I really hate to play the "Japanese games are cooler than American ones because" card, but when it comes to games from the east, the menus (and loading screens) are almost always better. There's just more thought and care put in them I'd like to think. That being said, both Primes are excellent exceptions to this rule.

And yes, there are others I'm sure. In fact, if you know of one, let me know.

Riddick had really cool menu's (even though I hated the game and think it's crazy overrated)

OK, I admittedly haven't played Prime 2 yet, nor do I own the Quadrilogy set, but it's hard not to see "art nerd" and "Alien" in the same sentence and not automatically spit up the words "H.R. Giger" -- is that what you're searching for?

I was about to post that. Riddick has an incredibly nice looking menu interface.

Metroid Prime has the best presentation of any game this generation. Easily. Complain about the titles gameplay or whatever (not sure how you can), but it's artistic direction is beautiful, it's menus rule, and it's very Metroid-y. Awesome, awesome presentation.

hm, that's some awesome trivia. i cant wait to see it in motion. that and the VF4 menu.

(dam you Sony! im finally ready to purchase a PS2 and you go all shortage on me! mofos.)

sorry for the derailment. :)

The environments are just amazing. Phendrana Drifts, Chozo Ruins, man. The art style is so unique and immersive. It amazes me to this day. Everythinn flows so smoothly. Just beautiful to look at. The definition of perfection in my book. Retro Studios owns all.

Metroid Prime, Halo 2 and Riddick all have excellent menus. Those are just a few Western dev menus that come to mind. :)

You can change the colors, backgrounds ect.

So awesome, sometimes I just play around with that for a few minutes. Slowing down or speeding up the CQC, changing the color, zooming in on the action, or changing the background.

Prime did indeed have a slick title screen and menus. Anybody got some screens of the Echoes title screen and menu?

Echoes has an awesome opening sequence and menu, but the game logo seems very pasted onto it. Not that I'm really picky about this sort of thing.

I DO appreciate that they went with a different color scheme for Prime 2. Helps keep things a little fresh. They also seem to have gone from more organic menus in Prime 1 to technological menus in Prime 2.

I enjoyed the Goldeneye 007 watch menu system, despite getting shot up while the watch animation played.

Ugh. i remember trying to navigate those menus on a small tv without an rgb connection. By the time i managed to start a game, i was practically blind.

Yeah MP2's technological presentation is quite different but its very slick and sharp. I love the way it all works. I wish there was more!

Yeah, but it's not all that much like Giger's shit. I'm not thinking so much about the art itself (which is very Giger, in both Metroid Primes) as all the fiddly little design elements they've laid over it. That's some more recent thing, Giger never favored cluttering up his art with lots of barcodes and bits of animating text and stuff.
