Nintendo will dominate GOTY awards with 3 games; MK World, DK Bananza, and Metroid Prime 4. Has this ever happened before?

Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and likely Death Stranding 2 will be three of the nominees. Lets see how Bananza and MP4 turn out in the end. MKW has no chance even being nominated.
And for overall the most Goty awards its already almost Impossible to beat E33. There needs to be a magnificent Game to beat that and I dont see Bananza or Prime 4 end up being that.

This GOTY talk is kind of meaningless in the overall picture, especially for Nintendo games, where Western critics always preferred Sony games for media awards.
In 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons should've won over TLOU Part 2, but sales metrics fortunately were there to tell the real story between those two games.

You need to take a look at which websites gave GOTY awards to Death Stranding.
Sales numbers are a million times better than an unknown website with 5 viewers handing out GOTY awards.

A sand-box gameplay focus on destroying the environment wasn't my ideal dream for a new 3D DK but I do think the game looks great. I like that the sense of weight he has translates into the movement of the character. This is something I love about DKC Returns and TF. I think it can really be a strong GOTY contender. In fact, I think it will rival Mario Odyssey and BOTW/TOTK's acclaim. I think I'll end up liking it more than Odyssey and BOTW/TOTK. Really curious to see if Star Fox will get a Switch 2 game with the sort of ambition level seen in DK Bananza.

Mario Kart is fun but not game of the year material.
I think DK and Metroid stand a good chance at being nominated. I don't think MK World will be.
As of right now, I don't think Expedition 33 is being beaten for GOTY, though of course, if Sonkey Kong is a Mario Odyssey level 97 on Opencritic game, then sure, it would obviously take the win.

Japan only represents around 0.05% of the weight because the website owner's selection (ResetEra) decided to ignore Japanese gaming media despite Japan being the second biggest market in the world for gaming.
Countries like Greece, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Turkey, etc., have more votes than Japan, lol.
Gotypick blog and Goty.gamefa run by ResetEra users to cherry-pick the awards.

Barring any surprises, Expedition 33 will be GOTY this year, Mario Kart World will be in some category for a family game.
